Title: Getting back to full draw
Post by: maxwell on July 13, 2014, 07:40:00 PM
My daughter has no problem coming to full draw without an arrow on the string, put an arrow on the string and can't seem to come to full draw.  How can I help her??

This can be a really tough one.  One exercise IS to draw and hold without an arrow and THEN do the same thing with an arrow but she cannot shoot!  Tell her she MUST just let down -- she is not to let the arrow go.  Then if she does anyway, it's back to no arrow for several repetitions, then try the arrow again.

You don't give too much detail, but her age, bow weight, whether she's shooting at a target or blank bale, etc all can have an affect.

If she is shooting at a target, take it down and shoot blank bale. And use the exercise on a blank bale.

A very general answer to your question.  Are there any coaches in your area?  That would be your BEST bet.

Try this: have her draw an arrow to full draw, hold it, and only release it when you rap on the table (or whatever). Let us know what happens.

Have her draw an arrow with her eyes closed, close to the target, when she is at full draw have her focus on her breathing. Teach her how to relax at full draw not build up anxiety because she is aiming as she is drawing back.

Bill,
I hear there is a shooting coach over in the Skaneatles area, a Frank......not sure of the last name.

                                                         Good Shooting,

Craig even my daughter was laughing at that one.  I'll have to look him up.  Skaneateles is pretty exclusive not sure if I'll get the remarket coach or the real one.

Monkeyball thank you for the recommendation but I am retired now. Also I could not take this case, I know the "little princess" and she is close to uncoachable ... Has too much attitude! She maybe at Denton and medicated so I may try to work with her, however I would rather ride up and down the chairlift for 3 days solid. Perhaps we could sent her to Lourdes, miracles happen there! Perhaps Lori could go with her!
