I was on a hunt a few weeks ago in wet new zealand and noticed a friend of mine using plastic vanes that were sloted like feathers, he gets them from 3 rivers.I would love to have them if they worked well. My question is how do they fly and what do you think about them.
The Bi-Delta Rain-Vanes? They seem to fly very well, eventually. From my experiences they're quite stiff when they're new, but do soften up the more they're shot.
I tried them. I don't have a good thing to say about them. Even my gamemaster with an elevated flipper rest would not shoot them.
Out of fustration I tried some blazer vanes on my axis 400. BINGO. With the buck vane turned in they shoot great. This is out of my 58lb Toelke long bow. No more wet feathers for me.
After some initial that were less than satisfactory, I called Bi-Delta and asked for their suggestions on tuning. For a 3 fletch with 4" vanes, the vanes should be oriented with one at 0 degrees, another at 120 and the third at 240. Only the vane at 120 contacts the riser. Using the tip of an exacto knife, separate the perforations in the vane that contacts the riser. Leave the others untouched.
With this done, I have had excellent results. I am using these on 29.5" 2018's, with either 160 grizzlys or 125 zwickeys from a 59# silvertip.
I got some from 3rivers, Gave some to my friends to try none of us got good arrow flight. May work for you not for 3 of us.
Will cold weather make them stiffer......?
