Title: Brand New Here and Have a Question.
Post by: HyruleSanders on July 02, 2010, 09:50:00 PM
Hello every one. I am 14 and am thrilled to be a new member of TG.

My question here as follows. I have a Montana Longbow(45# @ 28 - I draw 26). Arrow groups are starting to develope however the bow string contacts my chest at full draw.

Does anyone have any recommondations?

Where is your string hand anchor point?

My anchor is located on my right eye tooth.

Post a picture of you at full draw, or better yet, a video of you shooting.  It's hard to give advice without seeing what you're doing.  There could be a variety of reasons: your shooting form, your body type, if you're a woman, etc.

Open your stance a bit--that is, don't stand at perfect right angle to the target but move your left foot back a little so you are not shooting straight across your chest.  The left foot will be slightly behind a line from your right foot to the target. This assumes you are a right handed shooter.  I have the same problem and correct it easily by opening my stance a bit.

Oh, and welcome to TradGang.  You can tell by my member number that I have been around a looooong time   .  There is a great group of folks here and don't be shy to ask questions.  Pull up a seat at the campfire    :campfire:

Looper

Thank you. I will have my dad take a picture of me tomorrow and attempt to post it. Our family doesn't have a video camera.

Note: I am a male.

Welcome to this fun place, I am wondering if your bow arm is parallel to your string hand fore arm?

I am not an expert but that may help a bit unless 45# is heavy for you.

good luck

mike

Welcome to the 'gang. Where in KY do you live? I thought maybe if you were fairly close to Elizabethtown, I might could see what you are doing when you shoot. Some of us here like to shoot at KTBA's traditional shoots in Harrodsburg. Fine group of people there.

David,

I am Right handed and my stance is slightly open. The toe of my left foot is in line with the arch of my right foot. I will try positioning my left toe in line with the edge of right hill. Hopefully that will help. Thank You.

I would suspect that due to the combination of the  the low string angle and a short draw that a more open stance could only help.

Hunter,
That would be great if you could post some pictures.  Go to this thread and read through it:  http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=003278

When you have your pictures ready (take one of your right side and one from above and behind), post them in the Shooters Forum and ask for some critique.  You'll get some fantastic advice from some of the best shooters around.  There are a lot of folks on here that are more than willing to offer you excellent advice.

Hunter, I grew up near Madisonville!  My dad was the pastor of the Baptist church in Nebo for a few years and I was born in Providence.  Good to hear from "back home."

Hey Hunter, glad to see your on the TG, I enjoyed shooting with you and your Dad at On Target. Keep up the practice, you already shoot very well for no longer than you've been shooting trad.
