Title: WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT PASS ALONG!
Post by: smalson on December 20, 2006, 04:24:00 PM: Okay, here's the deal . . .

FIRST GROUND RULE: If anyone gripes or whines, they get booted from Tradgang. Okay. I don't have that authority . . . but this is purely for fun like any white elephant gift exchange.

GROUND RULE #2: The item you send has to have SOME value. It may be a perfectly good item you no longer have use for or it may be something that is broken but repairable . . . or maybe it is only good for a decoration. As with any white elephant exchange, some will end up with something special and others will end up with . . .

GROUND RULE #3: You can only put your address on the thread once. No PM traffic, only public viewing.

GROUND RULE #4: You will send the person after you either what you received from the person before you or something entirely different. Please send it ASAP. If you decided to not wait for the gift sent you and you just want to send something to the next person, that's fine and will speed up the process.

GROUND RULE #5: You must tell at least one other tradganger about this.

You don't have to tell anyone what you are going to send, but to start the ball rolling, I'll tell you what I'm sending.

I have a longbow that was made poorly and has HUGE string follow. Somebody out there might really want an decoration or might want to repair it. I will send to the first one who gives me an address.

Somewhere down the road, I'll put my name on the list, but not for a while.

I presume some will be frugal and some will be generous . . . that's the way people are! That's also the fun of this pass along white elephant.

Soooooooooo . . . who wants to receive a wonderful longbow with some snakeskin backing and enough follow to look strung????

It contains, a nice 2-3 pound piece of black obsidian for flint knapping, 2 small slabbed pieces of obsidian that are perfect for pressure flaking, the flint knapping made easy video by Howard Jacobs and Alan Taylor, 5 "lucky" buffalo teeth, Bowhunting Dangerous Game DVD, A Black Widow one arrow Quick Draw Quiver with tab attachments,A bag of fletching from this springs wild turkey (there kinda rough),2 knapped points made by myself, one dozen glue on broadheads (these are old style 3 blade bear heads but have never been used) and a piece of unprocessed leg sinew from this years buck! Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy them! This should go out in tomorrows mail.

If the recipient can't figure out what they are, post a picture and see who can identify them.( It shouldn't be hard, but I'm not telling yet ). If I'm reading the rules right, I think the reciepient will then have to send something to whoever signs up after them. The recipient would also receive a gift from the person who signed up before them, right?

In the box was a couple of flintknapped heads,a knapping video,some slabs of obsidian,a big hunk of obsidian,some feathers,a Black Widow single arrow quiver,a dozen three balde BH (not sure what they are),and some sort of big critter teeth,a Bowhunting Dangerous Game DVD,and a piece of sinew. Maybe Dennis will chime in and fill in the blanks for me. Thanks for all the cool stuff!!! I'll be carrying on of the knapped heads in my pocket for a little extra Mojo the rest of the season.

As for the broadheads I'm not entirely sure what they are but was told they were made by bear archery in the 60's. I bought a huge lot of several hundred and use them for small gaming. They have a pretty small ferrule but with same light sanding they do just fine! I hope you enjoy them.

Among other items there were broadheads, string silencers,snake skins, turkey wing feathers, feather fletching, blunt tips, knock points, and an AWESOME hand made knife! I plan to add a sheath to my hunting quiver for the knife and I will carry it with pride. As soon as I get a chance to get some blood on it, other than my own, I will post pics!!!

Someone earlier had said that it's funny how a Trad person knows just what the other Trad person needs. Well Chris was on the money.

He sent me a beautiful money clip of a Buck grazing, a set of piggy backs which was great since I was going to buy them for the bunny hunt next month and a shooting glove with reinforced tips. I just received a new/used HH Halfbreed longbow in the mail at the same time of this delivery today. Timing was on the money. I know once I tried to shoot this bow being it is 15# heavier than the one I shoot, I would need to get a new glove that has reinforced tips, well I have it now.

Today I received my gift. I guess the Atlantic Ocean slowed the elephant down a little.

I want to thank Alexander from Germany for the great little knife he made and also the Quince jam.

I haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to it.

I don't have my camera with me, but will get a picture posted soon.
