Title: How do you carry your camera while hunting?
Post by: Barclay on January 27, 2007, 01:21:00 PM
I thought it would be interesting to see how folks carry their camera while bowhunting... homemade pouches or what not. Something that allows you to draw your bow and wear binos around your neck, quiet, quick access, rainproof, etc...?

I have dayone cammo with a camera and phone pocket upper right breast (can I say breast on this site  :)  ?)...it's no problemo to whip the cam or phone out quickly.

I carry a bigger and clumsier camera then most people do now.  It is a kodak digital that has a 10 power optical zoom.  The benefit is the zoom capability.

If I want quick access to it, I wear it on a short strap diagonal across my chest/shoulder and tight against my upper ribs on the right side of my body where it does not interfere with binoculars or drawing the bow.

If I am worried about protecting it, it is in a case and in my pack.

Just throw it in my fanny pack,an hope it doesn't fall out when I'm digging for something in the dark.

In a small, zippered camera case that hangs from a clip on my pack directly behind my right elbow. A mini tripod is right next to it.

I find that I come home with alot more pictures when its real easy to get to.

More and more pack designers are starting to put zippered pockets on the hipbelts of their packs. Now if they would just make them deep and wide enough to hold a fist-sized digital camera and also make them rainproof.
I've removed the Buddy-Loc velcro attachment from a couple zippered pouches and replaced it with a sewn-on strap over the past few years.

Mine's a Sony Cybershot, love it. It's inside a zippered camera pouch, that's inside a ziplock bag, and that's inside my backpack or fanny pack.

I'm carrying a Sony Cybershot now as well.  Just put it in my shirt pocket without a case.  Can get at it real quickly there and find I use it more than when I carried it in my pack.  When I carry my larger 35 slr, it goes in my day pack.  Always carry a mini plastic tripod with a velcro strap in my pack as well.

I have a pretty slim camera so it usually goes in my pocket. If I wear my fanny pouch i'll throw it in there for easier access. Most cases have a belt loop which I would imagine to work well.

I have a small Canon. I take the wrist strap and put it through the button hole on my brush shirt pocket, and loop the camera through it and put the camera in the pocket. The strap is long enough to bring it up to my eye and I can't drop it out of a tree or off a cliff that way!

Pelican makes plastic cases of various sizes that are water proof.  You can find a size to fit most cameras.

I use the case more for dust protection of my camera.

I saw Terry's Pelican case, liked it, and bought one.  That's where my camera is most of the time.
In good weather, easy walking, it's just in my pocket.

Carry the still camera in a quart size zipplock bag and video camera in 3 layered 2 gallon sized zipplock. I try not to close the video bag completely because condensation builds up. Put them both in Bison Gear Elk hunter pack.

Here is a neck pouch that I made to carry mine.  Rides on my chest inside my jacket - totally out of the way, yet I can reach it easily.  Plus it keeps the camera nice and warm for better battery life and no condensation problems.
