I am going to buy a new string for my 60# Samick Spirit II recurve, because the string that came with is is a little frayed at one end. I am going to buy a Brownells Fast Flight plus from 3 rivers archery. I have to measure the string for thier sizing. I measured the string at a little around 57.5 end of loop to end of loop. I thought usually a 60" recurve would take a 56" string. Did the string strech? Should I buy a 56", 57" or 58". I am leaning toward the 57", can a string strech 1.5 inches over time? Thanks for the help fellas.

i have heard that recurves takea string 4 inches shorter that the bow length so i would go with the 56 string, because that one will also stretch some too

If the bow is 60" AMO, it takes a 57" string....O.L.

I guess we need a tiebreaker, but O.L.'s member number is freaking #9?!!! That's pretty impressive. 57" it is unless fred bear has any ideas from the grave.

Using fast flight, go with O.L. on this one.

The AMO standards is "string length for proper brace height, plus 3" is the AMO bow length"..Para phrasing there...With no distinction between longbows or recurves:

That doesn't mean they followed the standards but a string a bit too long can be twisted up a lot and be functional while one too short would not....O.L.
