When you guys are shooting, does your elbow (on your bow arm) get locked out? Or do you leave a little slack in it? If you do leave slack in it, how do you push into your target? Also is there a trick to get the same amount of slack in it each time... Seems like one would be short drawing one shot and over drawing the next???
Thanks in advance..
Please someone answer this before it gets moved to the shooters forum and never gets answered...

I had the same question and found the answer from Terry. It is to long to explain PM and I will tell you how my problem and questions were answered.

Not sure why you think this question would never get answered on the shooters forum...there's a lot of guys helping out over there...AND...there's some threads on that forum now addressing this very question...all you have to do is do a search.

Terrry,
Is it possible to hear your explanation.
Thanks,
Mike

oops,,, Terry mentions a double anchor in another post short drawing. I can see where that would help a good solid anchor.

If you can find the feel of good back tension. You will find the natural position for your arm to be in. After I studied all I could find on shooting positioning and started using the correct alignment like Terry shows. I was able to add 2 inches to the draw length of my longbow. I use the same anchor as beforeBut now I have proper alignment of my back arm and shoulder. I will admit that Terrys advise changed my shooting. Do a search for back tension. I had about 50 POC that are 2 inches to short. That is why I had to add wood adapters to the arrows for the increase draw length.

capt eddie , will do a search for it, THANKS

Not having problems with my "String Elbow", or right elbow. My questions was regarding the "Left" or bow arm elbow.... I'm not sure if I'm makeing sense...
-
PastorSteveHill I think what's trying to be said is, with proper form (Terry's clock) your bow arm pushing will take care of itself ? Proper allignment..

You can lock your bow arm out in alignment with the arrow but you must align and rotate your shoulder inward or the string will slap the inside of your elbow. If you let the string elbow float you are not getting proper alignment or full extention.

That makes sense... I'll do a search... Does Terry ever do shooting clinics? I should work on getting him to LA to put one on for us, heh??? LTB Clinic...
LA Trad. Bowmen would love it...

On the thread they call it the Alignment clock?

Sorry guys........I've been really pressed for time...I don't have a clue where I posted the info Capt Eddie is talking about...maybe I emailed him.
I've never done a 'shooting clinic'....but I have help a few guys in camp that asked. Not sure I'm qualified for a clinic, but I love seeing people improve and gain confidence in there abilities. I like telling people what they can do, not what they can't do.
I did a little shooting 'clinic' on alignment on The Bowhunters of Trad Gang DVD.
Whether bent or locked is really up to the individual, and part of "style" rather than 'form'. My arm is still bent even though it is locked and is never in the way while locked. For other's, a locked arm is in the way of the bow string....expecially if they have a closed stance and/or hold vertical on their 'go to' shot.
