Title: 3-under?
Post by: HATCHCHASER on January 09, 2008, 09:12:00 PM
Who shoots 3 under.  I have been playing with going 3 under.  The bow seems to be louder.  Do I have to raise my nock height

I shoot 3 under and the bow is louder.  Split just feels awkward.  My knock point is at 1/2, but everyone is different.

What are you shooting Hatch? I shoot 3under on all my recurves with a nock pt. of 3/4". It will be higher than split. No noise difference if setup right and bow is tillered for 3under!

I've shot 3 under for years.  Only a few of my bows have ever been tillered for it.  Typically, the nock point ends up a bit higher but not on every bow I have.

I have my nock at about 1/2 inch.  turkey creek 50@30".  My fedora is 58@28"  and i set the nock at bout 1/2 inch also.  I was told to raise my shelf a little to shoot 3 under.  I was shooting split finger anchoring high on my cheekbone.  The 3 under puts the arrow under my eye with a more comfortable anchor.

3 under will be a little louder and your nock will need to be higher that split . Mine runs around 3/4 to 1 in.

I shoot 3 Under with my top finger anchored at the corner of my mouth which puts the arrow right under my eye. For me, 3 Under allows a "stronger" draw with no finger discomfort.

Unless the bow is tillered for 3 Under it will normally be more noisy.  I have one CM that is tillered  for 3 Under and it's noticably more quiet than the several other recurves I have tilled for Split.

My nock point +4/8" to +7/8",depending on the bow...

I switched to 3 under after 20 years shooting split finger and love it. I get a cleaner release and have shot better than ever. My nock point is at 5/8 on my widow recurve.

There doesn't seem to be enough room on my face for split finger.  When trying it my index finger hits my glasses.  Three under works well for me.  I anchor my middle finger on the back half of the canine tooth, over the lip.

I switched to 3 under after being tired of to much finger/arrow pinch.  I haven't noticed either of my Assenheimers being louder.  I place my nock top dead center and nock the arrow above, Hill style, then shoot 3 under with my index at the corner of the mouth. It seems alittle unorphodox but I get no arrow pinch and a much cleaner, smoother release.

Terminator, It's interesting that you say that because I have noticed the exact same thing. Do you have any idea why that may be the case?

I started off shooting three under and after a year or three i all of the sudden got the urge to change to split. i like it much better because i feel like i have more control of the arrow. with three under you definately have to change your nock point and you will probably shoot lower than usual.

I use to shoot split, but for the past 3 years... I've shoot 3 under.  Yup, it's louder, but... it just feels better.  David

In general your nock point will go up if you go 3 under. My nock point is 5/8ths. I feel I get a more consistant release doing 3 under. I do find that 3 under is a little more noisy - but I get more accuracy and more speed.

I shoot 3 under with a deer hair faced monster tab (no nock split) and don't find this to be noticably louder than conventional. I'm curious if those who complain about noise are shooting glove or tab?
