Shot a fine doe last night just before sunset. Spine shot with my 94# Hill, 1000 grain hickory shaft, and 2 blade Magnus head.
Skinned her out and boned the meat. Kept most all the sinew for backing a special bow this winter.
While feeding my dogs. They ran over and ate the whole pile!!!!! I am really sad about this.
Damn dogs!!
O'h well, 2 tags left, so I suppose I can collect more this year. Just venting. Thanks.

I wonder if you can get good sinew from a dog? :bigsmyl:
QuoteI wonder if you can get good sinew from a dog?
That is hilarious, I was rolling on the floor for a few minutes :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Hmmm. Got 4 dogs. That would be plenty for 1 bow. I'll give it a try and get back to ya!!
:biglaugh:
Now you know why the Native Americans ate dog!
I know how you feel, I had a springer, that had pups, and she ate a whole beaver hide that I had drying on a hoop. When she had pups, she would eat anything.
i know what ya mean john i got one of them to and she will eat any thing ya drop and i mean anything. but hey she is an awesome buddy.
"now little Johnny, what have i told you about lying? you used the old "dog ate my..." yesterday and the day before too, i dont believe you!
now then, could you please explain to your teacher what 'sinew' is?"
:D
thast sucks, i would have been whoopin me some dogs about that time....
if it makes you feel any better, my lab just chewed up 5 of my new custom arrows
My golden ate a beautiful pair of snake skins last week. I had planned on putting those on a longbow I'm building. I hope they were good.
This to shall pass
Look on the brighter side, at least the dog ate the sinew before you had put it on the bow. :scared:
Don't ask how I know. :knothead: Dang dogs, ya got to love them regardless of thier (for lack of a better description) mis-behavior.
I was wondering how long it would be before you chimed in on this one, Walt!
Justin, like Walt said....better they ate it now than after it is on the bow...or processed for that matter. Bet you don't make that mistake again!
Dog #1 to other dogs:
"Hey look! fresh chew sticks from our master!"
Other dogs:
"Cool! Our master is the best! Man, these are fresh ones!"
You truly provide for the entire family!! :jumper:
I figured Baker would expose my ignorance about where I left the sinew laying. Yes, it is more my fault than his. We have made ammends and he is once again being offered dog food........
Going to head out this afternoon and try for another deer. Thanks for your support guys!!
jf
Warrior, Im just curious. Did your arrow blast through the spine or did it lodge in it? My dogs chewed the nose off my best buck while I was preparing for a skull mount. Thanks. Gilbert
Not 'sprized 'bout the dogs. My Pa gets an over-abundance of deer sinew from a local butcher each fall. He processes it for bows. Throws away what he doesn't need, but saves a bunch and gives it to his Lab for the occasional chew treat. They love the tough, crunchy sinew sticks.
when the ST. Jude's auction was going on this year i put up some elk Ivory's for bid..
well it was getting towards the end of the auction and i thought i had better get them out of the skulls, so i soaked em for a day or so,
then took them over in my lawn to knock the Ivory's out.
well i knocked a couple out and set them down in the lawn and went to get another skull.
on my way back i seen my shorthair gobble them up.
OH NOOOOOO!!!! NOW WHAT AM I GONNA DO....
well i kept a good eye on her, and every time she would go out to fertilize my lawn i would go dig around in the fertilizer, well two days later and much to my relief i got em back...
but please don't nobody tell NAKOHE cuz hes the one that bought em....
