Hi, everybody, I'm pretty new to trad,and I've been shooting since May. Lately, I have developed a new to me shooting problem. My accuracy has been really good, but my string is all but ripping off my nose. I've tried changing my anchor, trying a tab, opening/closing my stance. I can lessen the amount of hit , but not totally eliminate it. I usually shoot 40 to 50 arrows a day, but the last two days I can only get about ten shots untill I start bleeding all over. Can anybody help me?

i would get a sharpie or felt pen and mark on the string nock and shoot one and look at your nose, if it is the nock hitting your nose then i would make my nocks from string and that would help out alot.
you may need to shoot with your face more perpendicular to the target.

check brace height : sounds like string has strectched.

It sounds to me you are trying to pull a longer arrow than you need, which causes you to turn your head away from the target and put your nose into the line of fire. Bob

You can also try canting the bow more (but don't cant your head also). The way I anchor, if I hold my bow nearly vertical, I'll just about take my nose off.

If the string does not hit your nose on the way back (drawing) it should not hit it upon release.
This usually happens when you turn or move your head after you have reached anchor.

I'm pretty new to recurves also and occasionally have the same problem. The solution that works for me is to both cant my bow a little more and keep my head turned toward the target a little more.
One thing that a coach told me is that the more you look at the target from the corner of your eye, the weaker your bow arm will be. He teaches his archers to face the target. I'm not good enough to tell you if this is true or not, but I practice with my head turned as much as possible and still get a good anchor at the corner of my mouth.

I used to tilt my head down toward the arrow, causing me to face a bit away from the target...and the string tended to hit either my glasses or my nose (I once sent my glasses about 12 yards down range!). I now make sure I am facing the target as squarely as possible with my face, and rarely hit my glasses -- and never my nose.

I think aromakr nailed it. I started hitting my nose but only took a couple of times to want that to end asap, your one tough cookie! :) Just turn your head more toward the target, might shorten your draw but will save your nose.

I had this same thing going on when I stated to shoot Trad equipment. This is what worked for me. It may seem to simple but I saw it the first time my wife took pictures of me shooting. I found I was using the same shooting form I had when shooting a compound sanding straight up and on my back leg or heal. Try looking at your form and see if this is going on. If so try putting more weight centerd between your legs maybe even a little front at the hip. I think Terry Green says shooting form is from the waist up if I remember right. Also if it continues get Byron Fergusons book become the arrow a big help to me. :archer: :coffee:

I had the same problem.For me what helped was keeping my head turned all the way to the target as much as possible.Also,keep your head down and completly still until the arrow hits it mark.I found out I was peeking at the moment of release.Lifting my head up at the moment of release put my nose in the line of fire.I don't do it much now,but once in a blue moon it'll happen and I will know I need a form check.Hope this helps.tradrick
