The weather around here has been very cold lately. So cold that nobody in their right mind would be out hunting.

Well, since i have never been accused of being in my right mind
I figured i might as well go to the woods. I was hunting on the edge of a green field from the ground. Anyone that knows me can tell ya that i ain't made for hunting on the ground. I move around way to much and i just don't have any confidence in it. This hunt was a kind of spur of the moment deal so i went to my cousins farm where he has permanent blind on the edge of a field. He has a problem with the deer destroying his crops and asked me to come over fill some crop damage tags for him. The blind was made for gun hunting but with the proper twisting i could shoot out of it.
I had been in the blind about 2 hours when i looked of to my left and a group of 8 does started coming into the field. I waited for them to move out in front of the blind where i could shoot. Finally this doe walked out broadside at 10 yards and gave me the shot i had been waiting for. The snuffer took out both lungs and she barely made it 60 yards before going down within sight.
I shot her with my Zipper recurve, easton axis 500 arrow with a 125gr snuffer. Total arrow weight was 399gr and i found the arrow burried in the ground about 10 yards behind her. :D

That's awesome Chad! I didn't know you guys still had season in. Yep, I'd be wearing so many clothes I couldn't draw the bow.
-
Nice job Chad; lucky to live in a state where you can still hunt deer. On the plus side, we still have rabbits to hunt. If I ever connect I'll post a picture.
-
Way to go Chad!! I've always said it takes a special kind of effort to kill those late season deer.
BTW....Beautiful Zipper there bud!!
-
That's cool bro!! Amazing that arrow didn't bounce off her what with it's light weight and the dreaded big multiblade up front. ;) :D

Nice going, i hate it when it gets real cold but given a chance i would be out in it to hunt deer. Here in western NY season has been over for awhile, probably a good thing for my marriage and family cause if it's open I'm going no matter what.

Way to go Chad, great job. I think if you check

Good Job Chad, Gotta love the extreme cold hunting! BLM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Just goes to show that a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then!
Charlie, Thanks bud. You would think it would just bounce right off. This deer must have been a weakling i guess.
Vance, I ain't got any freezer space left. I gave this one to my uncle. His family eats alot of deer and he was happy to get it.
Joe, Season here lasts until Feb. 4th this year. In the past, season has always went out on jan 31st.
This is the latest in the season that i have ever killed a deer. And my first in the snow with a bow. I think i'll go back out one more time before season ends. I still have one statewide antlerless tag left and a guy at work said he would like to have a deer as he didn't get to hunt much this year due to illness. Might as well try to help the guy out! :D

Congrats Chad!
It's single digits here with sustained NW winds 25 mph or so. Gusts over 40. A buddy of mine talked me into going coyote hunting this afternoon. I'll probably be so bundled up I'll look like that little kid from "A Christmas Story".

Way to go Chad! Great to see that your helping family and friends with your additional harvests!I think it's a true testiment to your good nature. Let us know if you connect again.

First one in the snow Chad? Thats sweet. I love those firsts. As the years add up I get more jacked up shooting those tasty does than ever before. They need to be knocked down in most areas today and there is no finer eating. I usually donate to the food bank when the freezer is full and you know somebody is eatin good in the neighborhood. Gotta love them does!! Good Work.

Congrats!
Sure wish our season was still in.

Great job all the negatives against you and it turned out positive. I sat yesterday morning here in Jersey wasn't as cold as where you were CJ a balmy 20 from 6:30 to 11:30 didn't see a tail. Hunted a wood lot next to a huge cut corn field . When I walked out I checked and couldn't find a scrap of corn left in that field.Oh well good to be out anyway.Congrats again.

Way to go Chad!!!!!!
