...to take the edge off of this deer season and the "close but no cigar chances" it's offered me. Took one about 10 minutes before I left my stand, and wouldn't you know it, took the next one on the way back to my car. I don't know if that one knew I was there, or just didn't care, but he just kept strumming along. Strange for the birds in this area, but you didn't have to get me to think twice about taking the shot...
Anyway, at least now I can say I did get a little meat this season. Got both birds soaking in saltwater as of now; I'll get some meat in my belly tommarrow and chase after those deer with renewed confidence. Life is sweet somedays...
...oh, and fyi Ken, Nate, Chuck, and Drew; neither bird was tame... :bigsmyl:
Congratulations on the grouse...wish we had em this far south...on the other hand maybe I should just move up there. Anyways, congratulations and enjoy the meat! :campfire: :clapper:
Way to go bud...no pix?
umm we need pictures so i can judge for myself that they are indeed grouse and not chickens!! :readit: :D look forward to hunting with you this coming weekend and maybe we can both take our first trad deer! there is a nice 6 point chasing around 5 or 6 does about every night, has not gave me a clear shot. my brother in law has missed a doe and the buck with his super duper 6 pin wheelie crapper!! :banghead:
Wish I did have pics. Course, not having a camera does make pictures a very hard thing to get ahold of. Ah well, these are just more kills that'll have to go in the journal rather than the photo album...
i have a spare digital camera for ya. its a little old but takes a good picture, will give it to ya this weekend. what broadheads were you using on the grouse? hope it wasn't the snuffers!! :scared: :scared:
Thank you, Ken. Oh man, you have no idea how much that means!!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
The first one fell to a snubbed-tip Snuffer, and while I've said it before, those 160 Snuffers are a completely different head from the 125's. The second one fell to a field tip/ sharpened wingnut combo. Can't say it stopped the bird cold, but the Snuffer'd bird made it farther than that one...
...And you shoot one domestic turkey, and it keeps coming back to haunt you... :knothead: :banghead: ;)
Yeah , well it still sounds like the second one was tame . Maybe you talked it into giving up ?/ HaHa Great job Chris :0) :wavey:
Thats just cool. Nice shooting bud, now just pretend the next grouse is the baloon behind the steel...
Hope ya get a deer this year man. You deserve it.
um Drew, i believe you have somethig to tell everyone??? ya better make a post of your own and get on with the story before i call ya out again!!!
I uhh well , was just waiting on Chuck first , yeah thats it :0)
Grouse are fine eating, congrats!
Now Drew, you holding out on us?
Maybe :0)
i was having a pretty bad day but you guys do bring a smile to my face!!!
Thanks guys...
Drew, ya' gotta get on with the story. BTW, one of the arrows used was a regular 4-fletch with 2 of the feathers being from my stash of turk feathers you gave me. The other was a flu-flu made from those feathers. And I don't even have to tell you about where I got the Snuffer that did away with the first bird...
Congrats Chris , glad to see ya getting some meat with them :0) Drew
MMMMMMmmmmm.......nothing like clicky chicken! Nice shooting.
ahhh ha!!!!! another guy that thinks ya shot a chicken!! :readit: :knothead:
Don't make me give ya' another shooting lesson on the targets, Ken ;) :saywhat:
put one in the 10 ring this weekend on the 6 point by my house, i'll be happy to take his girlfriend! we have a real good chance at getting a crack at them. and if that don't work out i'll take you to Agway, they have a new batch of chicks fresh out of the incubator!!
Will do, bro...will do... :bigsmyl:
Man no pics? You better do a still life in oil paint for us then.Thats a helluva bag.Id trade a turkey for a grouse anyday.Congrats.
CONGRATULATIONS Chris!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
That's OK Buddy.....I BELIVE YOU!!!!!
Those pen raised pheasants on the Gun Club property aren't tame either.....
Thanks again, guys. These two make three grouse I've taken with bow and arrow, so far. They were all on the ground, though that's not to say they haven't given me any aerial opportunities (had no idea how quick you have to be to even draw a bead on these ruffeds). My first one had a nasty habit of charging vehicles (no joke), and made the mistake of baring down on my parked LeBaron.
May not have gotten picks, but I'll be sure to return to this thread, with pics I'll take using the camera Ken's giving me, enjoying whatever concoction I prepare...
Were they Rhode islands or Banties? heh :knothead: :knothead:
...ughhhh...so it begins... :knothead:
