Well my season is officially a success (as far as I am concerned). Went over the hill this morning and climbed into a stand in an old cedar.It is between two of the four north/south trails that run across my property. Right after first light 4 does and yearlings headed south across a trail below me (the 3rd of the 4)without coming close.Cool. A few minutes later a yearling comes down trail #2 and passes by about 7 steps from my stand and I draw the flint tipped river cane arrow to the barb, pick a spot behind her shoulder and count coup. She continues never knowing I was there. A little while later a button buck comes down the same trail and stops 5 steps away and I again come to full draw knowing all I have to do is drop the string and he's mine. Letting down I count coup for the second time this morning. He wanders out of sight but a little while later he comes back (I assume its the same button) heading north down the same trail and walks right to my stand. I think he picks up my scent and was now dead set on finding me. Standing and looking around. Lifting his nose to the wind. Now I am maybe 6 feet over top of him and he can't locate me. Many of you know I have been having this breathing/coughing problem since May. Its getting better but I'm not healthy yet. All of a sudden I have to cough and there is no stopping it. I try swallowing real fast several times but I HAVE to cough. It's a hard cough that has about 6 hacks in it. I turned into the tree to quiet it best I could but it was deep and loud. I look over and the little buck is just standing there looking around. I can hear other deer running thru the leaves, crossing the creek at the bottom of the hill and heading up the opposite hillside, but this little booger is just standing there. Finally after several minutes he wandered off headed south and I figure any adult deer withing 1/4 mile heard me coughing and the jig is up for this morning so I called it a morning and headed up the hill for the house.
It was a lot of fun hunting this morning until the coughing spell :banghead:

Biggie for the next 2 weeks if a "lunker" walks under me I'll put him in the boat ha ha after gun season even the dumb little button from this morn may end up in the net lol

Good day Mickey!! The other day I had about a five pounder right up to the boat and as I grabbed the net, he said "See ya"!!!But man what fun huh?
