I got a call Tuesday morning from Brent Rudolph of Black Mountain Bows. He called to let me know my bow was ready to be picked up so I made the 2 hour drive to Livingston after work and pick up this cool little bow. It was also nice to meet Brent and his family (super nice people). Thank you Brent, love the bow!
Specs: 48" long nock to nock when braced. 60# @ 28". Tonkin bamboo limbs under clear glass with bacote riser and tip overlays. Tips reinforced with sheep horn.
I have only shot it a few times thanks to the time change it is dark when I go to work and dark when I get home. Last night I set up some lights in the back yard and set up my target and grabed a few compressed cedars, checked the brace and nock point, then proceeded to have a ball shooting this little bow. Wow does this thing spit out an arrow! Seems very fast, super quiet, no finger pinch and I was drilling the bull right away. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend in the light. Well enough of my talking, here are the pictures.

Sweet bow Rusty. Had to check and be sure there wasn't an Obsidian lurking in there. LOL
Rusty got to see my bow when he picked up his.
I tryed to get away with it, but Brent tripped me at the door and took it back. :biglaugh:
He's mailing it today so now I should only have to worry about Killdeer. LOL
Very nice!! One of those is definitely on my want list.
Just wait till you have it tuned up, then you will realy like it.
SAWEEET! Neat looking bow. The unstrung profile is wild. So do you push pull string it? :biglaugh:
Awesome!
The Sheepeater is definately one of my favorites! Great looking bow, my friend!
What a sweet bow! I may have to take a closer look at those
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i could do with one of those. :biglaugh: even though i love longbows.
Rusty, you are welcome, but it is my pleasure. Thank you. It was a pleasure meeting you and your son. I wish you the best and lots of luck with that bow. Good to see you made it home dodging all the deer in the valley on the way. By the way, have you seen an Obsidian anywhere, Vermonster called looking for it, I can't seem to locate it.
Not funny.
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
K
Brent, I will have to look around in my truck and make sure it did not ACCIDENTALLY get put in there. :jumper:
Aren't you supposed to be chasing magic disappearing elk Rusty and not tormenting me? :p
:goldtooth:
Can it be drawn to 30" with the same or less pinch than a Kodiak Mag?
Any long draws own one of these?
I'll have one early next week and I draw just shy of 30"
Fred, I watched a guy at the Kansas Bowhunter's meeting last year draw it 31.5", true length. He said he felt some string grip about 31, but said it was smooth and pinch free up to that point. I have to take his word for it. I shoot about a 27" draw.
You're killin' me...I ordered mine pretty much identical, 'cept for the rattan grip wrap. Great pics; can't wait....
I gotta get me one of those bows!!
Another outstanding product from Brent Rudolph at Black Mountain Bows...I have two coming very soon for customers...I will post pictures before they get sent out!!
I really like this bow, look at it about every day.
What are the chances of getting more pics, including a full draw?
I too was very instrested in this bow. I saw it back in November when it was first posted. I went to the black mountain mountain web page and did not see any picture of a bow similar to this one.(maybe becuse of the grip). Is this just a new model? I sure would like to shoot one. Especially if its quiet.
The bows are very quiet. Brent has a busted elbow right now so things are a little slow in the making.
Great looking bow!
Not only, are they great lookin, they shoot as good as they look. You just cant believe, how smooth, such a short bow can be.I was amazed.
One day,i will own one of those.
What a beaut.I bet she'll be a nice shooter after you get her tuned up a bit. :archer:
Nice looking bow!
That is sweet looking! I absolutely LOVE mine!
It is quite a conversation piece when I take it to a shoot! The more I shoot it, the more it grows on me> You won't be disappointed, believe me.
Lee
Obsidian? What Obsidian? :bigsmyl:
I love the look of that little bow, Rusty! What is the string made of?
Killdeer
I've got one on order that's a twin to Rusty's, except I went with the rattan grip...Killie,I believe Brent said he's using 8125 strings with Halo serving.
Hi Killie,
It is D97
Rusty
It seemed SO slender in that pic of the tip. And perfectly made, too. There sure is a lot of pretty in that little package. I found a book on the Sheepeaters, and left the link up on the home computer screen. I hope that is what is in the Amazon box that came for Clark today.
Killdeer :bigsmyl:
Here you go Killie a Sparrow Hawk (kids version of the Red Tail) and an Obsidian.

I want to hear what you think of the shootability of such a short bow. I know Pete Ward wrote it up real good (and I do trust you Pete) but he admittedly likes short bows. I for one don't typically shoot as accurately with shorter bows (although I love them). Certainly if it shoots as good as it looks it would be worth waiting for, even if it took Brent a long time to recover.
I find it very easy to shoot. It is quiet and fast. The grip is very comfortable and the bow is easily maneuvered in the thick stuff. Points like a dream. One of the ones I'm actually keeping for what it's worth.
Well, then, while Brent is nursing his elbow, he can get on the stick and get his website fully constructed. I wanna see more pictures of the grip options, and I hsd never even heard of Brent's Redtail or Sparrowhawk before your post, 'Monster.
Both of those birds are special to me, I call the sparrowhawk (kestrel) "Little Redtail". Brent, I have broken both wrists, an ankle, a finger, and cracked a rib and the cartilage in my nose, but no elbow yet. How the heck did you do that? Bull riding? Lumberjack contest? Motorcycle mishap?
Macy's "one-day sale"?
Killdeer~ my husband likes bows like this..SSHHhhhhhh! :bigsmyl:
Killdeer,
Maybe if you're nice I'll bring my Sheepeater to Baltimore(if I go) and may even let you shoot it!
The tapered sitka spruce from Brandywine really fly off this bow!
Lee :bigsmyl:
Congrats Rusty on your new "toy". Brent's got a real unique Bow with that Sheepeater. Top shelf performer in all respects too.
Hey Killie...I heard a rumor Brent's taken up snow-boarding! Had a gnarly crash Dude!
He fell on the ice at his day job Killie.
His website is being constructed by someone else as for Brent has difficulty turning the computer on. lol
He has low, medium, high and the straight wrapped grip available.
The longbows aren't on the site at all yet, they are a fairly new development.
I fell on the ice at my job last year. I hope he doesn't have a supervisor like mine...she wrote me up.
Yep I like short bows, Medium and long ones too. LOL
In fact I love any bow that has good maners and shoots well.
Each has it's place , and the Sheepeater definately has a place in my hunting bow rack.
I hunt thick bush and blinds a lot ,so short bows are ideal for this type of shooting. Long length bows are almost impossible to shoot many places I go, but a short bow can be shot with ease anywhere.
Having some of each is always a good thing.
Pete
Pete "Having some of each is always a good thing"
Exactly----some being an unspecified large amount
of any or all categories-----LOL.----Alonzo the Elf.
Howdy guys and gals! Just to let you know the doc, not Doc Tyson (paradocs) DMV, let me out of my cage yesterday for "limited" activity. He was very happy with the motion I had back in my elbow. Got a Redtail Hawk finished for Doug Cambell last night, and feel pretty good. So, I will be back at the grinder with more frequent coffee breaks. I appreciate your kind words about the Sheepeater, and concern for my arm. Great group of friends you are.
paradocs, I see a bow in your near future. Hang in there bud.
Slayer1, I PMed you, but for the sake of the thread, I do still make the Sheepeater in a traditional straight handle. My personal hunting bow has one.
Brent
Well, thanks folks you make me believe. Unfortunately this time my bad luck pre-empted me and the bowyer of interest got injured before I could even think to speak to him. I feel bad for Brent, if I wasn't looking for a new bow he might not have fell. My apologies and best wishes that he get's well soon. The back-log on these beauties could grow quickly.
Oh, and I guess longer bows aren't always the answer either. I was all over the place with my brother's 64" today. So much for theories...
Pictures of the finished Redtail will be posted when? Or at least e-mail me some Brent.
Brent, what type of leather did you use on Rick Izatt's bow. Do you think that the leather you used would look okay on an obsidian?
Mike Hames
Mike that is a reptile pattern calf leather. Actually, I think I have a piece left in black, and yes I think it would look nice in either color.
V'ster, Doug picked up his bow today which is a Christmas gift for a young man that helped him out on his sheep hunt. I asked Doug to get some pics of him giving it to the lad. Maybe he can get a few of the bow itself. I'll see if he can post a few.
Fellas, not only do the look sweet, they shoot awesome. I just find it hard to believe that any bow out there would out perform the Sheepeater. I've added a year's worth of meat to the freezer with mine. As I told Brent, "It would be hard to hang it up to shoot one of my own bows". I've carried mine through Spring Turkey season and Fall season. Two whitetails and five Toms later, I kinda like it! Once you shoot one, you'll have to have one. Ralph
I agree, Ralph, (mine's an Obsidian).
Brent is a GREAT guy to work with, too! I'm awfully glad to hear he negotiated an early realease from his medical "prison"!!
Daryl
Those Hawks are sweet, what draw weights are the Sparow Hawks and at what draw length?
A matched pair of Hawks for young and old would be cool.
