Good Evening Tradgang,
I find myself with an opportunity...I'll be in Phoenix in February, during the "general" javelina season. I'm contemplating whether I should consider trying to set up a javie hunt. I've never been to AZ. I've never hunted javelina. I'd be willing to give it a shot if I got some advice from those that live there / have hunted there. We can easily take this off-line if necessary. Let me know who's out there and what you know, please.

You may want to check.I think you would have had to get your tag by draw back in may.
I hunted javelina near Tucson in January of this year. I had to apply for a permit in October. Sometimes they have left over permits in some areas. You might want to contact the Arizona Fish and Game department to see if there are any available for the unit you want to hunt.

There appear to be OTC tags available for the "general" hunt starting Nov 19. This is the "any weapon" hunt, not the archery hunt. Not sure what unit I would want to hunt, thus my posting here. Any other thoughts out there?

There's normally tags left over for the southern Az hunts around Patagonia or Sonoita which are good units to hunt .You have to be careful about all the illeagle aliens coming over the border that time of the year,it can be dangerous,if your not hunting a archery only hunt you can carry side arm which I would recommend.
I hunted the border with Mexico solo several years ago (end of January) and recommend against it, even though there were plenty of deer and javalina where I hunted. I was wondering why I wasn't seeing many other hunters, until a border patrol agent explained and told me how stupid I was for hunting there alone.......
