Well... First it's Congrats! Widows are great bows. Second... Be good to her. Use a heavy arrow and you will get many, many years of wonderful use outa that baby.

It's the "bright side". You'll smile every time you pick it up to go play!

I am dangerously close to the dark side as well.  I may have to make a custom order to make sure I can get the length and poundage I need.

Congrats, enjoy that widow.

Folks seem to either love'em or hate'em, but Widows are excellent shooters and tough as nails for durability.  Good resale value, too.  Some say they are noisy.  Not so, like any bow they just need to be tuned.  Made for rough use, not just another pretty-face bow.  If you're a hunter you'll like it.

The only advice I have is that the Widow owner's manual is a good reference source and a brace of around 8 1/2" or 8 5/8" is a good starting point.  And nope, you don't need rubber limb silencers.

I bought a new BW longbow a few years ago and loved it. Easily as good a bow as I've ever owned. Ah, but I have an addiction to buying bows that way outstrips my income ... so I sold it and bought a Thunderhorn. Like the BW, it is as good a bow as I've ever owned or shot, and this particular one, bocote, was the most beautiful bow I've ever seen. Ah, but the addiction ... I know own a Lightning Longbow, just over half the price of a comparable BW, and it too is as fine a bow as I've ever owned (and ironically, built by a fellow named Gordy). My point is that MOST of the best-known and many or most of the lesser-known custom bowyers today are producing amazing products that perform far beyond anything I could have imagined in my youthful days when I longed for but could never afford a Bear. BW is one of these, but not the only one. Enjoy. dave

Dave was kind enough to sell me the PL Longbow this past summer. Outstanding bow! Very smooth, there were times when I couldn't believe that the bow was 55lbs. That being said, I also own Matlock Longbow that Milt Beens  sold me and even though it is only a 50.5 lb bow, it shoots nearly as fast as the Black Widow. There are a ton of amazing bowyers out there, doing amazing work! T

The best advice i can give you is don't ever sell it. I had a B/W longbow and traded it. I have regretted it ever since.

Thanks for all the good words guys.  I must say I'm very much looking forward to this next bow relationship.

After a several chek-mate bows a Cari-bow and a couple Dwyer longbows, I can't say that I've been left un-spoiled.  ;)

I *do* feel like I'm going back to my roots though.  Dads' Old 65' Herters has a massive riser....smooth limbs and zero handshock. I know the Widows feel similar in mass.

I'm sure it won't be my last bow....but it is a first.  :D
