Title: Zwickey Delta and carbon arrows
Post by: madmaxthc on November 25, 2017, 02:53:00 PM
Hey, Tradgangers,

Since Easton XX78 have been discontinued, and I only have a few shafts left, I was considering switching to carbon. I was having a look at the 3Rivers Traditional Only, and noticed that they would take a 5/16 point. I have a few broadheads which I would like to keep using; the Zwickey Delta are 11/32. I was wondering if mounting them on the thinner carbon shafts would give any problem.

Thanks,
Max

Shouldn't cause any issues as far as hunting goes. May even give better penetration due to big hole little shaft.
Target shooting with too big of a head may cause problems pulling your arrows due to the shoulder created between head and insert.

You can also add a Broadhead adapter for a smooth transition from shaft to Broadhead. I think they only weigh about 5 grains and they help with the target removal. 3Rivers sells them also. What size aluminums were you looking for?

Thank you, I will look into the adapters. I am currently using XX78 SuperSlam 2315 (340 spine)

No interest in the XX75 Camo Hunters? Still a good arrow.

Thank you, Sirius, that was actually my first thought. Still undecided if I should switch to carbon.
Since I shoot heavy broadheads (up to 190gr.) I am currently close to 11 gpp. My recurve is not very fast (~ 154 fps), so going carbon would get me around 9.5-10 gpp and maybe get  a bit of a flatter trajectory. Because of my work, there are periods I can't practice much. When I come back, regaining consistency up to 20 yards takes me a few days, but as soon as I get to 25 yards it takes me much longer. So, I was thinking, maybe I could squeeze a few extra fps to help with accuracy in the 25/30 yards range.

Sounds good. There are many choices out there for a 5/16" 340 spine arrow. The sky's the limit.

I shoot 27 1/8 inch Goldtip Traditional 400, 5/16" carbon arrows with Zwickey Delta 2 blade off my Martin Scorpion 55@28". I also glue my Deltas onto a 100 grain steel broadhead adapter. They fly great for me. I spent a lot of time working to find the very best ingredient for making the perfect arrow. I shoot woodies out of all my other bows and all of them are tipped with Zwickey's and a very few tipped with Simmons Tiger sharks. Nothing flies like a Zwickey.

My carbons weigh more than my aluminums did back in the day with the same Zwickey Head.

Been using Zwickey Deltas on Carbons...Arrow Dynamic Traditionals....for 15 years now.

Cannot go wrong with a Zwickey on any arrow in my opinion.

To echo the above.... I’ run Zwickey Deltas on carbons... even have on some of the micro diameter arrows. I took this deer to the processor, which was unusual for me, as I prefer to age and process myself but was heading out of town the next day.  I warned him the Broadhead was broken off in the far shoulder somewhere... when I went to pick the deer back up he wanted to know more about those heads. He was a compounder and had never heard of Zwickey   :scared:  .  He could hardly believe the head had punched through the far side socket and was still good to go... I let him keep it and my last departing words were you’ll order more once you use them.    :biglaugh:

I run the standard eskimo 2 blade off my axis trads and they are fantastic.  No issues at all.

Thanks everybody for your answers!  :D

I'll try and switch to carbon at the end of the season, we'll see how it goes... finger crossed  ;)

I agree, doesn't matter what arrow a Zwickey goes on. I prefer wood though.
