After 15 yrs of not bowhunting and going through a divorce, my youngest son Steven (31) has moved in with my 93 yr old mother to help out and this has led to us getting back together and bowhunting.
He's shooting an original Jack Kempf 2 pc T/D longbow, Cedar arrows tipped with Zwickey Eskimos. I outfitted him with, what else, ASAT camouflage and we've been spending the afternoons chasing whitetails together. He missed a nice 6 pt and a doe last week. He calls it rust, I call it not picking a spot.
The other night it came together....for me...I christened my Mikuta longbow on a nice fat doe. Shot her at roughly 18 yds as she ran by me...those ash arrows and Schulz Hunter heads are a great combo. It gave Steve a chance to get on a blood trail and learn. I let him lead as it was dark. He took his time and 60 yds later stumbled on the doe.
He then got a lesson in field dressing....gotta love having kids do the dirty work. We were both estatic and it gave me a good warm feeling sharing the hunt with my son. I did help him drag her out though....I thank God that I'm back enjoying the woods with the one son, now to get his older brother to join us again....gonna be tough though...works long hours with a large family.
nice to hear that.good to get the family into the hunt.
Good for you Joe, that is a good thing to hear. Congrats on the doe too!
