Title: 1st All-Dayer of the Season
Post by: Friend on October 27, 2017, 08:03:00 PM
Saw a 3 1/2 and a 4 1/2 yr old on a hunt last evening. Both were in a methodical pursuit.

The 3 1/2 yr old was approximately 190#s and fourteen yards out. The more mature buck was a beast but 35 yards out.

Have passed on solid shot opportunities on 75 bucks during the last two seasons without loosing an arrow. Have passed on 12 separate solid shot opportunities on bucks this season.

The coveted opportunity is hopefully in the immediate future. Tomorrow warrants the first all-dayer stay in a prime ground set.

Wishing the best for all of my trad brothers.

Was that a 190's whitetail or Mule Deer I've never heard of anybody passing on a 190 deer. My hat's off to you for being one of a few trophy hunters in the world that would pass on a 190's class deer at 14 yards with a bow.

Good for you but I'm not sitting in a stand and passing that many deer.  Not with a weapon in my hands.

I think he meant 190 pounds. That's a big deer!

"#" generally means pounds, as in weight.

Best of luck. We aren't in rut mode here yet. We have a few pre-rut signs like scrapes and rubs. A few of the older bucks are starting to get glandular. However I've not seen any chasing, bucks (especially the younger ones) are still paling around together, I've herd no antlers crashing, none of the does I've shot have been glandular smelling. It's coming though.

A mature buck in my location will run 2 3/4"s to 3 1/4's.

My partner, on Saturday, was following a 3 1/2" track from a fresh scrape up the logging road away from the WI clover food plot. He then observed a 25 yard section that looked as if someone had gotten quite rowdy on 4 wheeler. The ground was a sight to behold.

He and I visited the location after dark.

An intense battle between two gladiators had taken place. The ground had been rutted, gouged, large areas scraped and slathers of blood covering an 8' by 20' area.

Actually resembled a Forensic File horrific crime scene.

Embarking on another all-dayer tomorrow.

Deer traffic is typically quite lower than the previous all-dayer hunt set.

Have pics of three mature bucks and one 3 1/2 year old. Am particularly interested in one. He is not one the giants but still very nice. I am not skilled enough to be able to  be in position to drop the string on one of the giants.

We are starting to see a lot of chasing in south central Ky as well sir.  Good luck on your hunt tomorrow.  Something always magical about the first week of November around here.  I love it!
