Okay Curt come on now, you've had plenty of time to rest up.....we're waiting :bigsmyl:
TAP, TAP, TAP.....Okay Curt! Give it up Bro!
Anybody that's workin' 80 plus hours a week doesn't need to be rushed to tell a story. Congratulations Curt...
Congrats.
he's probably out trying to fill that other tag while he has the chance. I'm sure he'll make good with the story when he has time.....right Curt? :)
Sorry fellas...but I do work a lot(don't listen to Peter :p ) and I have a family that I like to spend a bit of time with too.....
.....Like I said, I finally got an afternoon to take my time and enjoy the time in the woods with out worrying about hurrying to go here or there......
I had just climbed up with my Lone Wolf, when I heard a racket behind me...I mean I wasn't even strapped to the tree yet! I could see a small sapling shaking violently, and knew that could only be one thing...
Fished out my Leica's saw that it was what I thought, a small buck rubbing a tree. He was about 60yds away and while he was busy I got my extra cloths on, my bino's on, and hooked up my harness. He was done rubbing and was now just working his way around eating acorns. I also noticed something wierd about his tail...I was chock full of those little "velcro balls", we call them bird-ox around here.....
Suddenly he bolted like he realized he was late for an appointment....kinda funny how he just up and went..but he stopped about 80yds away...
Time to have some fun...I grunted, got his attention, then gave him the old "can" call....his reaction was without hesitation.......

Before I knew it he was right about under me, moved a little past and started to do this.....

How cool is that!! Nature never cases to amaze me, my day was made right then a there....
By now you can tell, this little fella was safe. I was out there to kill a nice buck or a doe for the freezer. Nothing showed for a while and it was getting to the point where I start to debate weather it's time to get down or not when I heard something that wasn't a squirrel. I looked behind and saw a deer walking. In the fading light it was easy to see with my bino's that it was a deer that I wanted, and was gonna be in range in a second. I grabbed my bow and shifted my feet to get ready.
I voice grunted...it stopped...but in the low light I was a little hesitant, and it wasn't exactly point blank....but with out concious thought the arrow was streaking forward. The darkness swallowed up the arrow about 3/4 of the way there, and the deer was visibly starting to move as the two started to come together...A hard thud told me of a solid hit and it's reaction of a low, hard run was a dead give away about what the fading light had hidden from me.......
..I followed with my ears and within seconds they told me it was over.....
I packed up and got down..it was now real dark..this what I had to track....
Not much, but when you hit them right with a snuffer 160,you don't need much....
In no time I saw this after about 50yds....note the reflecting eye...
Threw a stick over to make sure what I already knew and walked over to......
A 1 1/2yr old doe....My shot was perfect(about 22yds). I was real happy about that. Low light has a way of fooling the eye sometimes...but this shot was without any thought..it just happened......

A fitting end to a much needed afternoon.....
Great video again. Now I can see why I'm fooled by massive looking rubs on little trees. He worked over that tree pretty good.
She should taste pretty good.
Chris
Forgot this pic...check out the bucks tail...
As far as equipment....once again it was "Timex",my 11yr old, copperhead skinned, Kempf Kwyk Styk, 62# at my draw....Carbonwood 4000 tipped with a big 160 Snuffer. Arrow exited right on the opposite "elbow".....
Now if I can hopefully get some time this last weekend of our early bow season to try to catch up to a good buck
Awesome Story and pics!!!!!!Skyler
Great video, Nice to see the bucks acting a little rutty. Nice doe as well. congrats!
Great story Curt. I love it when all that practice come in handy. That was a truly instinctive shot. The video of the little buck was great also. Being a part of such things is what the non-hunting public don't understand.
Like you, I have had little time in the woods this season but come Thursday I'll have 4 days in the deer woods of GA with the rut near, my osage bow and wood arrows in hand and a burning desire inside. Only thing missing is an opportunity! Pat.
Good deal!
CONGRATULATIONS My Friend!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
I love the tail full of burdocks!!!!! I guess we know where he's been hideing!!!!! Thanks Curt!!!!!

Congratulations, thanks for sharing.
Congrats, Curt!!
Super video, all my years hunting I've never seen one with all that burdock in its tail! Congrats on a fine eating doe!
Brent
Let me get this straight...You can hit a lil' puddin head doe at 22 yards in low light...but you can't hit a big fat gobbler at 5 yards in Kansas... I'm gonna call your wife, because for a guy who "supposedly" works alot...you sure seem to kill a ton of critters...
Love ya brutha!
Congrats!! Thanks for the pics and the story.
Nice footage. Congrats on the frezzer fare.
Curt,Thanks for sharing....Like you said just seeing that Buck rubbing would make anyones day.Are you sure you didn't chase that buck though the brush His tail looks like it..LOL Nice doe It sure sounds like you needed that afternoon >>>----> ED
good stuff,
Great stuff Curt. Watching that little buck video made my day too. Thanks for sharing and congrats on a great shot on a fine doe.
