Hi All.
I can’t believe how fast this summer has gone! I leave Friday (9/22) for a moose and black bear hunt in Newfoundland.
My hunt is part of The Classic Year (http://www.TraditionalSpiritOutdoors.com/blog) blog and, assuming I can remain “connected,” I’ll be posting about it in semi-live fashion as it unfolds. You can follow along by simply visiting The Classic Year. To get updates about new posts as they happen, subscribe to the TSO eNews (http://www.TraditionalSpiritOutdoors.com/blog) at the upper right of the main blog page.
I’ll be hunting in the far north of Newfoundland near St. Anthony with a French Canadian named Michel Breton. Michel is a champion moose caller and our tactic will be to call a rutting bull within spitting distance. I’ll be shooting the 55# 1972 Bear Super Kodiak that won The Classic Year BowVote and was donated by RMS Gear (http://www.rmsgear.com) .
For those who voted, I’ll be pulling a name soon after my hunt to see who wins the Super K, so stay tuned.
I’m also going to pull names to win other prizes, including custom wood arrows from 3Rivers Archery (http://www.3riversarchery.com) , a book from Sporting Classics (http://www.sportingclassics.com) , and books and t-shirts that I’m tossing into the mix.
Keep the Traditional Spirit Alive!

Have a great hunt. Stay away from the Screech if you expect to wake up ready to hunt!
-
Can't wait to follow. I am hunting with my Dad's Red Wing Hunter that he bought in 1967.
-
Thanks, everyone!!
Nomad, I'll bite...what is Screech?
St Anthony is far enough north to occasionally get polar bears. I've been lucky to see a lot of critters, but polar bear would be a first for me.
Here is a 2011 photo from near where I'll be hunting.

Head scratcher for sure...#$%& happens. Could have been worse though. Good luck. I am really enjoying reading along with you adventures. Thank you for writing it all up.

Any idea when the drawing is for the bow and prizes?
-
Thanks for asking, Josh.
I'm sorry for the lack of updates.
I'm operating with a handicap, as my web platform (Weebly) only permits a certain number of e-mails to my contact list every 30 days. I have exceeded that number, so for the moment, I have no way to send messages to all those who are eligible to participate in the drawing. This is why updates about new blog posts stopped in the middle of my Newfoundland hunt. It's very frustrating.
As soon as the counter re-sets itself, I'll draw names and announce the winners. On the plus side, the delay has given me time to get the Super K all shined and pretty.
Thanks for your patience and I'm sorry for this glitch!

Just glad to hear you made it back from your trip safely!

Thanks, Josh. Made it home safe and sound.
Hardest part of traveling was the confusing Toronto airport and convincing customs agents that wooden bows should not be treated as firearms.
It's funny...they know exactly what to do with a rifle or a compound bow, but throw an old recurve at them and bewilderment sets in.
