Once again my deer and elk hunts start in just 15 days and I'm so unprepared this year. The work life ratio has been tipped in the wrong direction. I have so much stuff to get ready let along getting a house ready to sale and a busy work schedule. Most years by now I have been scouting and already picked out animals I want to hunt. At least the the one scouting trip I made it looks like it is a game rich Environment this year. Are you ready?

I hear you! My wife and I just moved to Bluffton, SC. from Tennessee. I booked an Alberta moose hunt for Oct and haven't shot an arrow in two months. Been working on the "new" house and haven't connected with any trad opportunities or places to shoot. May have to find a place in garage or house to start flinging arrows. Hope to head back to Co. next year to chase the wapiti when things settle down a bit. Moving is the pits!

I have all my stand locations picked out but I don't put up my stands until September because of the nymph ticks being out. Opening day is October 1st.

Elk hunt September 11th and I am all ready to go.
-
Haven't scouted much but seems to be deer/ elk everywhere I've been lately so not too worried bout that.
Taking the 64" 50@28 HH Wesley special forward handle out this yr. Been shooting a couple times per week all summer, I think I'm ready with that. Whitetail opens Aug 30th, elk Sept 6th.
Starting back to back 16 hr shifts at work then off for 5 days each week, so I'll have plenty of time to hunt.
Yea I think I'm ready.
-
I'm pretty much a back woodlot whitetail hunter. I can be ready in about ten minutes.
-
Always feels like I'm ready physically. Been working out (lightly though) 6 days per week since Feb/Mar this year and shooting at least weekly to maintain accuracy. Just scouted a place in the NF in the north 2 weeks ago trail camera is setup etc.
Now my wife says I can't go in Aug (bow season) so I'll have to change my plan to bowhunt the general season and the rut in Oct.

Five ground sets are hunt ready. Two require approximately 30"s work to be completely ready.
Two more require approximately 45" minutes to be completely hunt ready.
Longbow and recurve setups are tuned and ready for action.
My selfbow hunting setup remains still in development.

I have one pop up to set up for me still, but I know where it's going. I also have to help my son get his spots ready...but season doesn't open here until September 29th this year. I have a few other spots that are set up and ready to go, and I'm definitely excited about deer season!!

I have been doing some scouting. Starts in September for me. I have only six totally crapped out wood arrows that I put used feathers on, that will be my first pass shots. After that I will be either ground swatting with good arrows or shooting ball bearings out of my new sling shot. Like always I will keep an open eye for the deer and turkey patterns during dove season. I may need a new wife, she likes to go along dove hunting, mostly just to laugh at me when I miss, but she will not shoot at one herself.
-
Maybe it's just me...?? I never worried too much about "being ready"..... If it's too much like "work" it's not much fun.
Besides, the way I see it, hunting is more "luck" than anything.
I'd rather be Lucky, than good, any day!!!

9/11 is our opener for archery deer. I am SOOO ready! Deltas are shaving sharp, tuned and ready! I done the majority of my scouting back in the winter/spring, but still doing some spot-checking some white oak ridges for mast crop.
-
I know where I'll hunt and I know what buck I'm looking for...trouble is I've got a bad muscle strain in my shoulder...haven't touched a bow in about two months. That doesn't work for me. I'm one of those guys who needs to practice so I'm desperate to get out there.

Ya.... I'm 18 days out from heading to Kodiak for black tail and I'm way behind in my physical prep...
-
I have been thinking about hunting a lot lately. season opens in mid September, I have not really shot a bow in months due to the move and tryin to get a house remodeled to live in before winter. I did buy a backstop (horse stall matt) and will be building an indoor range in the barn. Hope to get back to shooting soon....

Unbelievable August morning. Pulling SD cards on 7 cameras this morning.
Am pumped with anticipation.

Just need to set a couple more stands and I am ready. Shooting well, physically and mentally ready, and looking forward to October 1st!
-
Not ready. I wasn't expecting to bow hunt, so I spent the summer thus far fishing and drinking beer in my free time. Nothing wrong with my shooting, the problem lies with the shooter. I've got a few weeks, but I doubt I'll get into comfortable "elk shape" by opening day.

I just moved and all my stuff is in storage because we are remodeling our "new to us" house. It was all supposed to be done by now, and I was supposed to be 100% concentrating on my trip to Africa now. As it stands, I have had much less practice than I would have liked, and feel almost like I should not even be going because of all the stuff that still needs to be done at the house. I leave one week from tomorrow, and feel like there is no way I'm gonna be ready.
Once I get there though, I know the peace and serenity of the hunt will be well appreciated!

September 15th is deer season here in CT. Still have a new spot to scout and two stands to hang. Have to make it happen pretty quick i have meniscus surgery Sept 5th yikes! Figure getting the stands up will push me into a speedy recovery, if not its ground hunting for me :)

Shooting in new and back up strings getting everything settled in along with lots of broadhead sharpening. It's that time of year when hair on the left arm starts disappearing.
-
We sure thought we were - until a bunch of pigs showed up.
-
Right there with you, haven't had my backpack on since May! Luckily I get a lot of exercise at work! Everything is basically procured though, so other than not getting out with my pack on all I have to do is sharpen broadheads and put my pack together. Now the monsoons are so bad I don't see myself getting up to do any of the stuff I planned either, wanted to put a treestand up by a wallow with pretty easy access, guess that ain't happening!

My go to bow for the past two seasons still has arrows ready go. My new go to bow now has arrows ready to go and I am shooting fine. since, I will be in a maintenance stutus for a while dove and bunny seasons won't start until after i get back from our canoe trip, I am spending the next few weeks setting up a couple of newbies to traditional bowhunting. It will be a challenge to see if they can be ready to go by October's deer hunting start.
