I am leaving in the morning for Missouri- been shooting all year, and shooting well. Harvested a doe here at home, and started b-ball practice-so shooting slowed down. The last few nights, my shoulder is acting up again (got a few spurs and loose tendons- no time for surgery- yet). With the sore shoulder- I am shaking a bit at full draw- and not shooting as well as I was. My hunting rig is a BL Hunter 54# @ 28". I am pulling it to 30.5, right around 60#. My other bow is a hunter 45#, pulling just over 50#. I have been shooting that one as well. Been shooting it better than the heavier one- and now the thought of switching risers-(have my quiver mount and arrow holder on the hunting rig) and hunting with the 45# next week.
Just wondering- I know the 45# will kill one with no problem- but how many would make the switch now? I plan on getting there and shooting a bit- will have to see how I am doing then. It's the old- one shot deal, I only have to shoot once if things are good...my mind is kinda cloudy now..any suggestions??
Switch now! You will be fine unless you are going after cape buffalo.
I would shoot the one you have the most confidence in. Otherwise you will be 2nd guessing everything.
Yep, I would switch now too.

Go with the one ya shoot best,it'll be tougher to pull the heavier one when ya get good and cold....well,prolly not cold for you Northern guys! LOL
The deer are finally movin more in Mo.,see em out till 10:00 or 11:00 now, people tell me they're chasin ,but I haven't seen a real chase yet...
Good luck and I hope ya tag a biggun!!
Kenny,
Spoke to my brother in law (guide) he had dropped the hunters off yesterday morning and when returning to camp had 2 different does run across the road and bucks were right behind them.
The first he saw chasing so far. I think our timing will be good- the weather looks way better than the 70 temps we had last year...
I think it'll pick up from here!! Too bad I gotta show up at work next week!
On your original ?,I'm shootin 52#. I shot clear thru a couple in the last couple years with a much slower 52# that I had.........
You should be good to go with either bow
52# @ 28". I too would switch now. The accuracy is most important.
Mark
Good grief! With a 30+ inch draw, your arrows will still be zinging no matter what the weight!
Dang I wish I had longer arms...
@ my draw 52#@26" Had 2 pass through so far this year...Only had 2 shots all season also.
beachbowhunter, Don't wish for longer arms!! :readit: Speaking as someone with a 30+ inch draw, you'll find more stacking with various bows, harder to find shafts the correct length(doweling works great though), camo may leave wrists bare, not only that it's hard to get people to understand you're only the 2nd generation to walk upright... :jumper:
On the plus side though, it's easier to find your arras in the lost arra bucket.
Im shooting 47# Super Diablo, 446 gr. arrow w.125 gr. Stinger 4 blade and it blew through my 210# buck like he wasnt there at 18-20 yds.,he didnt realize he was dead until his legs started wobbling and then he made it about 18 yds. Go with the lighter bow, your shoulder will thank you. by the way love the Stingers.
45# 27", I like the control and its easier to pull when you're sitting in the cold.
Take it from someone who had shoulder surgery in July and due to have another after hunting season. SWITCH NOW!!! I shot 60-75# bows for a long time and now I shoot 54#s at my 28.5" draw or a tad less and rarely a tad more. I would hunt anything in North America with my set-up. Shawn
Well- I switched risers (for reason stated above)
and shot the lighter limbs after work, and just now after practice. I'm sticking with them for the hunt. I have beman 500's shooting wasp sharpshooters- great flight and great groups.
I tried my muzzy snuffer ss, and they didn't fly as well. Confidence back up to normal, and shooting well. Lets hope the big boys are on the move and I get a crack at one!
