What is the best way to stain some cane arras?
Thanks, Brian
What color?
Unless you remove the rind it would be hard to get any stain to take.
I thought a good sanding with some 150 first. Then can I use Minwax stain or should I use wood dye or some other product?
Go to www.fultzrods.com (http://www.fultzrods.com) and look at the bottom of the menu for cane browntoner. Real easy to use, just wipe on and wipe off.
I think they look cool when you just leave the scorch marks from straightening.

These are some done for me by Art Butner (Bless his heart) he just applies Johnson paste wax and buffs with 0000 steel wool.
Mine have no scorch marks. Maybe I should add some.Brian

hey uncle bernie they are real nice arrows
I just finished a rattan and cane project at work (I make furniture). Stains were about worthless even on pieces were the rind was sanded through. I ended up using an alcohol based dye that worked well. I browned everything lightly with a torch before application and ended up with a neat antiqued look.
You might also try finishing them with something like minwax polyshades, which is a pigmented polyurethane.
Wow! Those cane "arras" are gorgeous!
