We are nearing final stages of our forward handle longbow. We have not yet picked a name for this bow. I would be interested in any suggestions for this bow. Please offer up your best ideas!
Since the Sipsey River headwaters are in the Appalchian Plateau, how about the "Appalachian"?......
David
hmmm
crowd pleaser
the plaque
idk what else to think of right now that hasnt already been taken
I always thought that "Long Shot" would be a good name for a bow.
Badger
Sipsey River bow should have a river critter name. Turtle is too slow, Frog is too little and green.
How about Otter. Their slick and usually get there prey. River Rat might be another one.
Any pics for inspiration?
Anyone familiar with southern appalachian streams has heard of or seen a "waterdog", also known as a hellbender. The later would be a pretty cool bow name.
hatchchaser, you are exactly right. Hellbender would for sure be a cool bow name, it gets my vote.
Bill, George, anything but Sue....
Couldnt resist
Eric
How about the alabama slammer!!!!
I like Hellbender.
Another vote for Hellbender
My vote is for Hellbender. Bring one up to Ohio if you can!
-Charlie

Swizzle Stick
Flipper Stick
Big Stick
Flicker Stick
Critter Gitter
Arrow on a Stick
Looks like I am stuck on a stick.
I wonder what happened to my post. I was the first person to suggest Sipsey River Otter. I must have finished typing and clicked the go button without click Add Reply. That's what happens when you are too sick to hunt and surfing the net in a medicine head haze. crap almost did it again if you can believe that.
I think I need to do this as a contest and offer some free shafts to the winner. You guys are GOOD!
How bout just send me that "Hellbender" for a test drive. :D
Our prototype is not yet refined. Looks great, still needs a little tweaking on the lam design.
i win i win just send me the bow!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh: dang missed out again.
Hey Hatchchaser----I was first, dangit!
I was doing some thinking on this. I read a book once a long time ago and there was a name I like out of it. "Stormbringer".
Here is a picture of the prototype.

Kinda looks like a big ol' Banny Rooster that's got his chest poked out and ready to fight.Hmmmmmm......how bout "ROOSTER".
Sipsey River Swamp Buster
The National Geographic Society has a video entitled: "Eternal Enemies: Lions and Hyenas." This documentary, filmed by Dereck & Beverly Joubert, shows the interaction between a pride of lions and a clan of hyenas in The Savuti, a wildlife preserve in Botswana.
The two adult male lions of the pride are: Mandevu, & his brother Ntwadumela. The Jouberts named him Ntwadumela in the local dialect. It means: "He Who Greets With Fire." Ntwadumela earned his name, because in the course of the video he goes out of his way in attacking the matriarchs of the hyena clan, killing them.
Watch this video and you will understand why my bow of choice is called "Ntwadumela---He who greets with fire."
Katrina - Because it looks like it can do some damage.
Thunder Stick,
Hell Fire,
"Cindy" As in she has more curves than Cindy Crawford!
How about "sipsey river smoker",or "sipsey river mist".
sipsey river moon cutter
great sugestions.
Locdoc..........not sure I could pronounce it.
Nokomis....daughter of the moon.
How about, "death wood" or "wood death"
Forrest walker
Stealth
Silent river
Tailwater
River Breeze
Wind Walker
Silent Stalker
Shadow Walker
It looks like a scythe. You know that thing they use to use to cut things with. Pronounced SY.
Sipsy River Scythe
Sypsy River Reaver
Reaper
How bout The SiRivBender? Beat that!
Slim Reaper?
Meat

Bob. Bob the bow.
How about the Sipsey River "Oxbow". Got the right curves! Besides, you should let me try it with those GT blems I buy from you! Heh-heh!
I kinda like whip'en stick
That is not a bad idea. We are considering making one to loan out and pass around the trad gang members to shoot for a few weeks at a time and then pass onto the next guy.
no idea
"
"Eagle Swept Wing" or
"Eagle" or
"Swept Wing" or
"Ramhorn" or
"Wing" or
"Bucksnort" or
"Badbuckbow" or
"Moonbow".
From Tarken(Half Tarzan and Half Ken).
Send my CX150 heritage shafts cut 29" with inserts the same as my last order.
Sipsey River Tornado or Sipsey River Tornado Assassin. So quick it even brings tornados down! Or simply "SS" for Southern Slammer. :)
My bow name and my "tradgang name" are the same - Can Hahaka was a Lakota Souix warrior that fought at both the battle of Little Bighorn and at Wounded Knee. The translation is "plenty limbs" so I thought it a good bow name.
sipsey silent talker.
Moon Shadow
Wind Talker
Sabre
Mystic
So many cool names out there for the taking
alabama dream
sipsey special
sweet sipsey
bamma slammer
redstone launcher
To go with the decorum, how about calling it "THE FORERUNNER"
hey John! The new Sipsey River longbow should be called..."Sipsey Stick". Just has a good ring to it don't it? And' put me on the list to try one out for a few weeks please.
later
Danny
I believe we are going to have two models of this forward handle longbow available to pass around from one trad gang guy to another to test and give us feedback. It may be a few more weeks before we are ready get this started, but I will post info on this very soon.
Sue. A bow named Sue.
Good idea, Sipsey River Sioux
Or is it Sioux?
hey John, I think ya may be on to something with that one. I did some resaerch into the area that your from and there is qiute a few native indian tribe names in that area you could choose from too. just a thought. Oh BTW, the 55/75 blems shoot great as well as the 55/75 snow camoes. I'll have to get some 35/55's when ya get more in.
It REALLY bothers me that I didn't think of that.
A bow named Sioux - yes!
It is S-I-O-U-X. But I'll bet the tribe didn't come up with the spelling!
Barnett makes a Sioux bow.
How about "Sipsey River Spectre". It does have that slim, delicate "ghosty" look to it. I suspect its deadly quiet, too.
What say the guy(that is if the name is selected from here)who comes up with the name gets to try her out first?
Ok Howabout
"Heart Breaker"
Sipsey River Runner
TAHCA OWACI (Dances with Deer)
Why not live with the bow for awhile and let it tell you it's name? Listen to it talk as you shoot it. You can hear the wind wisper in it's actions.
I put "sipsey river" into an online anagram generator and it spit out 342 combinations. The best or most humorous were
Revisers Yip
Privy Series
Viper Yes Sir
Sir Ivy Peers
Very Ripe Sis
Sipsey River Heartseeker
Gil
And introducing the new..... Sipsey Slipper...as in slips on through a deer.
Lakota
deer slayer
the tree rat
the bushytail
the cottontail
the jackrabbit
the wolverine
the cottonmouth
the coperhead
the diamond back
the white buffalo
Hey John, how about Medicine Maker, Soul Catcher, Soul Reaper, Orion, Twilight, the Gatherer, Spirit, Spirit Maker, Ursa Major (could call the kids version Ursa Minor) Backwater Bow, or Harmony? It's really got the curves in it, great looking.
I'll keep thinking, of course that may take awhile.
Has anyone mentioned--- ARROWSMITH ???
Silence of the Deer:)

My bow told me it's name was TWANG! Of course I am sure this new sipsey river is much quieter.
Ridge runner,
Stump jumper,
the rising sun,
Thank you I am most glad that there are still some trout in Montana that will still rise to the bait. How well does "Twang" shoot? Do your arrows fly straight?
Twang is another good one.
twang goes the string boys twang twang twang. the deer looks around and is killed by the arrow and thats why you can hear the bowyer singing twang twang twang. oh sorry i had to do that. :biglaugh:

Yup---looks like some sort of Spectre. Very delicate lines. How about Banshee?
The Prophet
Joseph Smith? heh
Stealth
Hi John My personal favorite would be Mike's bow. Some others to consider--Reaper,Harvester,Death dealer,Masterbow.
Sypsey River "Sad Daddy Special"
nice curves hows about "curvachous"
Sipsey River 'Moccasin'......the only poisonous water snake in North America.
Mike' bow...........never! This one shoots too straight to be MIke's bow!
Shakira
those hips don't lie...
Leg
:biglaugh:
How about Sipsey River "Slingblade" or Sipsey River "Bladeslinger"
Hey John, I'll take the shafts for the winner, how about "The Slobber Nocker" or "Sipsey,Bottom,Slam".LOL
Slobber Nocker sounds liker someone with a bad cold! Also sounds like a guy I know named Easter, it is the way he use to act when he saw a girl who was well endowed!
Sipsey stick gets my vote
"thresher" bringing in the harvest. Hoebow
Here's my two cents:
My lovely wife says "Sipsey River Sniper"
I say adding to my wife's suggestion: "Sipsey River SS" meaning "Spirit Sniper"
Thanks,
Joe
SS is close. We are very close to the final two designs. One will probably be named the Sipsey Stick SS (Super Short).
We hope to have pictures of the final designs and then start production in about 2 weeks or so.
How does this one look?
How about this riser?
looks great! ....I liked "slim reaper"
"Sipsy River Mink"
A fast, blood thirsty, efficient, little killer. (Takes on many things bigger than itself.)
The longer model:
"Sipsy River Fisher"
a faster,larger,blood thirsty, efficient killer.
Also "Sipsy River:
cougar / puma / panther
wolverine
"Thunder Road" like the movie with Robert Mitchum about the moonshine runners.
How about "Minko" which is the suffix used by the Chickasaw Indians to identify a chieftain. The Chickasaws roamed the Alabama area and were known to be fierce warriors and excellent hunters. So much so that the British were quick to befreind them in an effort to subjugate the French for control over North America.
Will any of those short bows be suitable for my 30" draw. If so you might could call it Winder, GA.
I'll vote for "hellbender"
ttt
30" is pushing the limit. Right now I am shooting one of the prototypes that is 58", and I pull 29".
I like the way it shoots.
How about STALKER?
ttt
