Folks, I started a thread a short time ago titled, "SOMETHINGS COMING FOLKS".
Well, here it is, "THE TRADITION LIVES ON", signature bow.
The bow is a "TEMBO" from Howard Hill Archery Co. with a silver Elephant inlaid in the riser. The limbs are white glass where signatures will stand out.
Here are just a few of the many signatures of these torch bearers of traditional archery that will be represented on this bow.
G. Fred Asbell ~ Bob Lee ~ Gene & Barry Wensel ~ Byron Ferguson ~ T.J. Conrad ~ Dick Robertson ~ Monty Browning ~ Ron LaClair, with many others coming.
I'll be raffling the bow with the proceeds going to a local Boy Scout Camp and an organization called Children's Harbor, which works with extremely ill children.
There's also a plaque the bow will actually hang on.
The bow should be here very soon and I will be keeping everyone posted of the progress.
Even though I'm starting this thread now, I'll be really be kicking this endeavor off at this year's Howard Hill Southeastern Classic, June 2, 3 & 4, 2017. The signature bow will be taking its journey across the country collecting the signatures and It will be drawn for at the 2018 Howard Hill SE Classic.
I will have to say that everyone one of these individuals were humbled to be asked to sign this bow. In my opinion, this is why they are such outstanding torch bearers for traditional archery.
Terry Harris
It's here, "THE TRADITION LIVES ON" bow!!!
Folks, this bow will start it's journey gathering signatures from some of the best torch bearers in traditional archery, starting at this year's Howard Hill Southeastern Classic.
It will then wind up, after making stops in Texas and Missouri, to the Compton Rendezvous for more. I'll pick it up there and then send it to several states around the country before it gets back to me.
The bow will be raffled off at next year's Howard Hill SE Classic with the proceeds going to Camp Jack Wright, Boy Scout Camp and Children's Harbor which works with very ill children. I'll be selling these raffle tickets throughout this next year.
Terry Harris
Thank you for the update sir! And the raffle tickets....when they are available!
rastaman, I'm getting to the printer sometime this week and will let everyone know.
Thanks
Terry Harris
That's just awesome .
I'm hoping I can and will give details on how to get them. All proceeds will go to the two groups I named earlier.
Terry Harris
This is Outstanding
Fantastic, way to go Terry.
Thanks guys
Terry Harris
will be watching. I'll get at least 1 ticket for sure.
I've put in the order for the Raffle Tickets today folks, won't be long now.
Terry Harris
Do you know how much the tickets are going to be?
They'll be $5.00 each.
Terry Harris
Thank you so much Daniel.
Terry Harris
That's a really cool idea! The bow and plaque look awesome!
Thanks Trenton, as of today, three of the gentlemen that are signing the bow are in the Archery Hall of Fame. I just found out a fourth will be inducted in 2018.
In my opinion, this bow just keeps getting better and better.
Terry Harris
Folks, here are the gentlemen that were not only proud but said they were humbled to sign this bow. I know there others known I may not have gotten, but I really feel I got some of the best of traditional archery's torch bearers.
Here they are:
G. Fred Asbell ~ Ken Beck ~ Monty Browning ~ Jerry Brumm ~ Neil Byce ~ Len Cardinale ~ Ron LaClair ~ Marvin Clyncke ~ T.J. Conrad ~ Craig Ekin (name's on the riser as the Bowyer who donated this bow) ~ Byron Ferguson ~ Roger Fulton ~ Dale Karch ~ Bob Lee ~ John Lee ~ Dick Mauch ~ Dick Robertson ~ Steve Turay ~ Barry Wensel ~ Gene Wensel ~ Bob Wesley
Terry Harris
That's going to be a really cool prize for someone to win. Looking forward to seeing pictures as the signatures are added to the bow.
Jason
I can't say this enough, the money raised from the raffle of this bow will go to a Boy Scout Camp to help develop young men and Children's Harbor, helping chronically ill children.
Not to mention, a one of a kind bow.
Terry Harris
Only thirty days away from the Howard Hill SE Classic, when I kick "The Tradition Lives On" bow. I will start getting signatures from Byron Ferguson, Neil Byce & Steve Turay.
The Bow will then head to Texas for Bob Lee's Signature and then head to Missouri for Ken Beck's and Roger Fulton's signatures.
The bow will then be brought to the Compton Rendezvous for several more.
Terry Harris
I would like two, just let me know where to send check and what do I put in the pay to area. Thx
Frank, email sent your way with info.
Thanks
Terry Harris
ELEVEN DAYS AWAY FOLKS!!!
This will kick off getting those signatures from those outstanding Torch Bearers of traditional archery.
Terry Harris

Got the first of many signatures that will go on the "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow this past weekend. Now, it's off to travel to other parts of the country for others.
Folks, you want to try and get, what I think, will be a piece of traditional archery History.
Terry Harris
The bows is headed to Texas, then Missouri and I'll meet it at the Compton Rendezvous.
Terry Harris
The bow now has Bob Lee's signature on it and is headed to Nixa, MO, Black Widow to get Ken Beck's & Roger Fulton's signatures.
Roger will then bring the bow and meet me at the Compton Rendezvous.
Terry Harris
Thank you so much Daniel.
Terry
Well folks, Bob Lee, Ken Beck and Roger Fulton have now signed "The Tradition Lives On" bow.
Roger will carry the bow to the Compton Rendezvous where I'll meet him and start picking up several more signatures before I bring it home. I'll post more photos of those signatures.
The bow will then again make the journey across the country to get the rest of the signatures.
Tickets are very easy to get, just let me know when you want your.
Terry Harris
I just got back from the Compton Rendezvous and got several more of those great torch bearers of Traditional Archery to sign this bow.
I'll try and get my friend to post them along with their photos ASAP.

Got T.J. Conrad with Traditional Bowhunter Magazine yesterday and he'll be sending it to Dick Mauch today folks.
Terry Harris
TTT
Pappy
Thanks Pappy,
Just got off the phone with Dick Mauch's wife, he's signed the signature bow today.
BTW, Dick Mauch will be inducted into the "Archery Hall of Fame" in 2018. That will be four Archery Hall of Fame inductees signatures that will currently be on "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow. Who knows what the future holds for the possibility of the others.
The bow is now heading to Marvin Clynke, then on to Dick Robertson.
Terry Harris
Good stuff Terry!
And thanks Tony for the pic's :clapper:
Thans John
"The Tradition Lives On" signature bow will arrive at it's next signee today.
Terry Harris
Folks, Marvin Clyncke has signed the bow and has shipped it on the Dick Robertson.
This bow is going to something very special indeed.
Terry Harris
Folks, I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I'll also be putting together a "The Tradition Lives On" book, to go with this bow. The book will not only have the individuals that have signed this bow, but some history about them as well.
This way, whomever wins this bow and hopefully hands it down to a next generation, they'll also be able to see how these torch bearers of traditional archery had kept our sport of traditional archery going.
Terry Harris
Well, Dick Robertson has put his signature on "The Tradition Lives On" bow and is sending it back to me.
After I get it, I'll post some new photos and signatures, then send it on to the remaining signees.
Folks, please let me remind you, the proceeds from this bow will go to help to outstanding organizations. Best of all, someone will win, what I consider to be, a piece of traditional archery history.
Terry Harris
Ttt
Bud, I put your stubs in the mail to you yesterday, thank you for your support.
Terry Harris
Folks, this bow is important to me for more than just raising money for a couple of well deserved organizations.
Ever since I've been involved in traditional archery and along the years, I've heard of and even met many of these individuals. Some of these gentlemen no longer travel to events because of their age, but their footprint to help keep traditional archery going can never be replaced.
For, if it hadn't have been for these bearers of the torch of our sport, traditional archery might have disappeared when compounds came into archery.
We have to keep the flame of our tradition going by reminding those that are coming behind us who these outstanding individuals are and to have them pass down the names, not only of the forefathers of traditional archery, but these men as well.
Terry Harris
The bow came in from the last signee's and will going out today for more. It won't be long before it's complete and ready for re-sealing to protect those signatures.
Terry Harris
Len Cardinale, a National Archery Hall of Fame member, should get the bow by Wednesday. After signs the bow, he'll ship it to Bob Wesley.
Terry Harris
Bob Wesley should get the bow Monday, August the 7th. He'll then send it to Monty Browning.
Terry Harris
I was just emailing with Bob recently. I live about an hour from him. Maybe I need to sneak over there.
If ya do, let me know what you think. I've only got three more signature to go before Craig Ekin re-seals it.
Terry Harris
Monty Browning should be getting "The Tradition Lives On" bow today. After signing, he'll send it on to me.
The bow will then go out for it's last signature, Barry Wensel.
Come on folks, it's a one of a kind bow, let's buy some tickets where the proceeds are going to two great organizations.
Terry Harris
Got the bow back today from Monty Browning, ONE MORE TO GO!!!
I'll be touching base with Barry Wensel and shipping the bow to him.
Terry Harris
Folks, I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but there are only a limited amount of tickets for this one of a kind bow.
I know I'm not drawing for this bow until June, 2018, but don't wait until the last minute or you might miss out.
Terry Harris
Barry Should have the signature bow, when he's finished signing it, he'll send it on to Craig Ekin for re-sealing to protect those valuable signatures.
Terry Harris
The "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow is on its way to Craig Ekin for its re-sealing. He'll then send it back to me....can't wait to get it and display it without all that painters tape.
Now, I gotta start really working on the "Signature Book" to give away with the bow.
I'm hoping to have it done so I can display it along with the signature bow at the 2018 Pre-Spring Arrow Fling.
Terry Harris
Should be getting the bow sometime this week....I hope. Craig got it last week and was to re-seal it.
Even though I haven't got the bow back to me finished, I'm still working on getting some history on all of these wonderful torch bearers in Traditional Archery.
This book will also go with "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow, so when this bow is handed down, it will be able to tell a brief story on all those who have been so kind to have signed the bow.
Terry Harris
Very nice Terry well done
Thank y'all so much.
Terry Harris
Any update from Craig, Terry? On the overspray?
I hope to be at the Kalamazoo Expo this coming January, showing the signature bow off as well as selling raffle tickets.
Terry Harris
Unfortunately, raffles can't be conducted in Michigan, BUT, anyone interested can get a self-addressed, stamped envelope from me and can send me a check for tickets.

Above's a photo of T.J. Conrads, owner of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. Taking the tradition of our sport all over the world with this great magazine.
Terry Harris
Also, a little piece of his history in traditional archery.
What part of the country are you from and what was your earliest memory introducing you to traditional archery.
Answer: "My father picked up two lemonwood longbows back in the late 1950s and we had those for many years. I remember saving up 25ยข to buy three wooden arrow with those pressed on metal tips. I actually killed a jackrabbit (and my mother's prized Bantam rooster, Jose, with one of those longbows. I fell in love with the bow arrow at a very young age."
Let's bring this back up.

Thank you Tony.
Here's a part of Dick's history that will be in "The Tradition Lives On" book, that goes with the bow.
Question: Can you share your most memorable moment you had, such as a hunt or some other event while enjoying this sport.
Answer: "Perhaps topping the most memorable would be the 1965 Trip to Mozambique, Portuguese East Africa. This was from boarding the plane in Omaha to join the group (hosted by Fred Bear) in New York until my return to Omaha about 7 weeks later, like a dream. I had to pinch myself every day that all this was real".

Terry,
Many here including me can only imagine such a hunting experience with the big names you have encountered in your traditional hunting endeavors....
Tony, I've got some very interesting stories that will all be in the book.
I won't get to meet all of these outstanding individuals, but I will have met a great majority of them, especially after I attend Kalamazoo.

Here's a photo of Barry Wensel and a little of his story about traditional archery. Terry Harris
When asked what was it that inspired him to get into traditional archery?
His answer was, " I really wasn't "inspired" to get into it, I was just handed a small longbow to "play" with. Our dad taught us the basics/safety, etc. and turned us loose, obviously watching us from a distance. Dad was one who always wanted to teach us but then lets us grow and learn from our mistakes, making suggestions along the way."
Hopefully there will be another signee up this weekend.

Thank you Tony, I really appreciate you doing this for me.
Here's a photo of Bob Lee holding "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow, along and his lovely wife. Bob's signature as well.
Here's just a few of Mr. Lee's accomplishments.
1951 Bob Lee forms Wing Archery Company in Houston, Texas, producing handcrafted, custom traditional archery equipment.
1959 Bob assists in forming the Pope & Young Club, an organization dedicated to developing records for quality game taken with a bow and arrow -- the archery counterpart of the Boone & Crockett records club
1968 Bob is instrumental in forming the national Archery Manufacturers Organization (AMO), an association that develops industry trade standards for measuring bow weight, draw lengths, etc.
2007 Bob Lee is inducted into the National Bowhunters Hall of Fame at a dedication ceremony in Las Vegas before a standing ovation
Here's another little tidbit about Dick Mauch, an earlier signee on the signature bow.
Terry Harris
When asked, what do you think is most important to keep our sport of traditional archery alive for it's future. His answer was, Mentoring and Youth programs such as Ted Nugent's camp for kids. State bowhunting organizations with youth programs including youth in their banquets & awards.

Thanks again Tony.
The photo below Bob Lee is of course, Steve Turay with Northern Mist Longbows, along with their signatures.
Here's a little info on Steve.
When asked what or who inspired him to get into Traditional Archery, Steve replied.
" I don't think anyone really inspired me to shoot Longbows and Recurves. As a child I made primitive bows and arrows out of what ever was available. When I was about 7 years old, my dad gave me a 35lb Lemonwood longbow that he had as a child. In 1988, I made my first laminated longbow and built them as a hobby until 1996 when I turned my bow making into a full time venture and continue today to build Northern Mist Longbows."
I'll put some info about Neil Byce in another post here a little later.
Here's some info on Neil Byce.
When asked: What part of the country are you from and what was your earliest memory introducing you to traditional archery.
Neil's answer was: I was born in Flint, Michigan and moved to Grayling, Michigan at the age of 7. Right after moving to Grayling, my second grade class had Archery for required gym class. The whole class shot archery every day for a couple weeks and the Gym teacher kept a tally on the daily scores. I know who took first but I won't say, but what a blast as a kid.

This is a classy tribute to all the signers of this bow AND their contributions to archery!
Thanks, Terry!!!
Tony,
$5 each. Send Terry your address as well.
He will mail you your tickets. He sends them to you on his dime, btw. I believe he has funded all or most of the shipping costs to send this bow to each signer. His dedication is remarkable to say the least.

Thank you so much Tony, and believe me, your help by posting the photos for me, helps my efforts tremendously.
Tickets are $5.00 each, one can send a check made out to American Traditional Archer and sent to me. Or using my email:
archertw@bellsouth.net to use PayPal. If someone needs my address, just let me know.
Thank you again my friend.
Terry Harris
Will we be able to make "donations" towards tickets when the bow is in Kalamazoo?
Jason
Jason, I was informed that I cannot sell tickets for a raffle of any kind while in Michigan. That's not on the Expo, that's a Michigan law.
However, I plan on having some self addressed, stamped envelopes to hand out to those that want to purchase tickets. This way, when they get home, they can send payment straight to me to get their tickets. Or, after seeing this one of a kind bow and you want tickets, you can still use my email and go through PayPal. I'll have cards with my email address on them as well.
Terry Harris
Tony, I'm spitting the proceeds with the Boy Scout Camp and Children's Harbor, that works with chronically ill children and their families to help them cope with their illnesses.

Some of Craig Ekin's story.
When asked, what was it that inspired you to get into traditional archery?
Craig's answer was, I was introduced to archery at 4 years of age by my dad. He had gone to the LA Sportsman show and watched Howard Hill put on an archery demonstration in 1948. He then went out and bought a set of bow and arrows and started shooting. In the mid 50's, he and my uncle opened up a small archery shop and that is when my archery enthusiasm began.
Folks, for those of you attending the Kalamazoo Expo, I'll have "The Tradition Live On" signature bow on display.
Terry Harris
I'll also have the book as well, so you can see a little of each one's history.
Terry Harris
Stopped by and took a peek while in Kalamazoo yesterday, someone is going to be very lucky to own this bow. You've done a great job Terry.

Folks, I'm approximately ONE THIRD of the way in reaching my goal of selling all 1000 tickets.

It's easy to get tickets.

Terry Harris
Terry,
You've come a long way already. I appreciate your efforts to organize this project, especially for the fact that the winners are the kids.
I applaud your diligence in creating such an iconic work ... a significant piece of history.
:archer:
Thank you Tony.
Hi everyone, unfortunately Johnny Stelly won't be able to be here at the Pre Spring Arrow Fling. As you know, Johnny prepares our chili for our free Saturday night supper.
There will be a food Vendor here, however, and you can get lunches as well as supper on both Friday and Saturday night at reasonable prices.
I plan on some great auctions for the Boy Scout Camp, Saturday before supper. Somewhere around 5;00 PM.
Terry Harris
The question was put to me about what's scheduled for this event coming up, the "Pre-Spring Arrow Fling", my answer was, "the event starts on Friday with no schedule of other things going on."
On Saturday, at approximately 1 PM, right after lunch, I'm planning on having a card raffle for a Black Widow Bow. I might have another card raffle on another bow at around 3 PM. One of those bows could be either a Northern Mist Longbow, Bear Archery Bow, Big Jim Longbow or a DAS Bow from 3Rivers Archery.
I also think there will be a Trade Blanket at 4 PM at the registration area.
Then at 5 PM, I plan on auctioning SEVERAL outstanding packages. These raffles as well as the auctions are to raise money for the local Boy Scout Camp, I also use to place some of my targets.
Terry Harris
Just got my tickets the other day. Thanks Terry and thanks for all that you have done for the camp.
You're welcome Greg, please pass the word. People that really care about our past tradition that the signee's on this bow represent should be trying to get a chance on winning this one of a kind piece of traditional archery history.
Terry Harris
Folks, less than three months away to get your chances on what is a true one of a kind bow. In my opinion, there will never be another bow like this, EVER!!!.
Terry Harris
Folks, I think this important for me to say this.
When I started this endeavor about "The Tradition Lives On" signature bow, I knew in my heart what I believed what this bow meant to me. I first believed it was men LIKE THESE that made this bow important for our traditional archery history.
I've come to realize it is not men like these, it is THESE MEN that have made this bow important for our traditional archery history.
If it weren't for these men, I really feel most of us today wouldn't be having this sport, hobby or even a great part of our daily lives here for us to enjoy.
I know there are others out there that could also have been on this signature bow. I know of three others I tried to get. One declined to be a part of it, another, at the time, was in a nursing home, and one never would respond to my requests to speak with him. I'm also sure there are some that many of you feel should be on the bow.
I started this project last Spring, and with what I know now, I truly feel I have the BEST of those torch bearers in traditional archery still with us today that are represented on this bow
Now, at the time of this writing, I've sold 363 tickets out of 1000. The proceeds, as you know, will be split between a Boy Scout Camp and an organization that works with chronically ill children, both noble institutions.
There are less than three months before I will draw for this bow. Folks, think about what this bow means, who you might pass it down to if you win it and what it might do to help some child.
Even if you say to yourself, "I don't need another bow", help me sell these remaining tickets and even if you don't want the bow, I'LL BUY THE BOW FROM YOU AT WHAT THE BOW WOULD COST YOU IF YOU BOUGHT IT FROM HOWARD HILL ARCHERY COMPANY.
Don't let, what in my opinion, is a piece of our traditional archery history go by you without trying to get it for yourself.
Sincerely, Terry Harris
Only TWELVE WEEKS AWAY before the drawing of this beautiful bow, as well as the book.
Don't blink, twelve weeks will slip by before ya know it. There's still time, but don't wait too long.
Terry Harris
Folks, don't miss your chance to get tickets.
Terry Harris
Folks, the time to draw for this bow is getting near. I have no doubt that this will be a piece of Traditional Archery history that will hang proudly in some lucky persons home. Son't miss your chance.
Terry Harris
Back up for a worthy cause.
Terry Harris
Folks, time's drawing near and soon it'll be too late to get your chance at this piece of traditional archery history.
DON'T MISS OUT!!
Terry Harris
Less than two months away for the drawing folks. Still plenty of tickets available.
Terry Harris
This is why I love this site and traditional archery. Great group of guys from the well known to the unknown! I am in for 10 tickets. I may have to pay it forward and put it in the St Judes Auction if I win.
Thanks
Gil
PS - Paypaling now for 10 tickets.
Thanks Gil, and good luck in what you'll do if you win this one of a kind bow.
Terry Harris
Folks, still plenty of tickets available, kinda surprised for a one of kind bow, a true piece of archery history for years to come.

Hi everyone, there's only 16 days away from the Howard Hill Southeastern Classic, where "The Tradition Lives On" signature will be drawn fro after supper Saturday night, June 2nd, 2018.
As I mentioned, there is a book that will go with this bow with all of these outstanding gentlemen with a little of their archery history in it.
Let me also add, that another copy of this book, MAY BE auction at the upcoming National Archery Hall of Fame Banquet in September.
Dick Mauch, one of the bow's signees, will be inducted into the NAHF on September 22, 2018 in Springfield, MO. I plan on being there to meet Mr. Mauch in person.
Folks, I honestly believe this one of a kind bow will be an family heirloom to be passed down hopefully from father to son to proudly hang on a special place on a wall.
Don't wait, buy tickets now, there's not much time left to get your chance.
