I have this habit of picking up items found on the ground while hunting that are left by other humans... Most times it is plastic water bottles. However, this time was different...Up in goat country I found an old .50 cal casing. I know this area got some action during Pearl Harbor so I came home and did some research. turns out this shell was made is Des Moines Iowa in 1944. Probably a practice round. Still cool. I figured it was about the right size so I made it into a hunting knife handle. This is going to be my new backup folder stashed in my pack. Gotta love the Opinel No. 8, dirt cheap and easy to modify!
So hows this for recycling?
The raw casing as I found it, aside from cleaning the neck up for a good fit. (http://i.imgur.com/eYWTqzU.jpg)

Hope this inspires someone to get crafty with a pocket knife and some junk they found laying around!

Very neat
That's very neat .
Unique.
I have found several of them along with linkages in the Sweetwater Rocks area of Wyoming. Casper had a base during WW2 and they trained fighter jocks there. No telling how many deer/antelope succumbed to 50 cals back then.
Cool!
Nice!
I found a stone axe once, you could still see the where the binding marks were on it. somebody stole it. The last interesting thing I found out hunting and I did not pick it up. Two Trojans and pink thong panties. It was last year during turkey season, I imagine that they were checking for ticks.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!^^^ beaver hunter bait station....
Very cool knife.
Nicely done! Berdan primed cases are a pain to reload.
