What distance do you set your decoys at for turkeys when hunting from a pop up blind.
A long ways....like back in the truck far...lol!!!!
Just kidding... when I use them, Ive been using 15 yards, but recently I found out better...now, I like 8 or 10 yards. The turkeys in my experience pay no attention to the pop up blind thus no reason to Set farther... Set em nice and close.
I'm going to set at about 5-6 yards this year.
About 10 yards. I would put them closer but then it's to tough to move.
10-12 yards
About 7-8 yards with a jake decoy looking so as to cause the tom to face it head on and show me his backside. I like close in action.....but when you shoot like I do....they need to be close!
10-12 yards.
Attending the Pope & Young Convention the past four days, past co-founder of Double Bull blinds, Keith Beam, gave a seminar on Thursday on this subject. He said about the same thing, 11 yards and place the decoys facing the blind.
Set mine at 9 yards.
Can easily shoot to the front. Ex... had 3 inline strutters, last season, walk between the facing jake decoy. Harvested the closest one.
Serves as an effective turkey hunting range marker. Prefer my shots under 15 yards. If one hangs up within five yards beyond the deke, I am on autopilot.
Like said, 10ish yards, I like hen facing away and Jake facing towards, want a Texas heart shot setup
5-6 yards
Not only should the decoy be facing you, it can be a good idea to place the rear of the decoy up against a tree or bush so the tom will have to come between you and the decoy to face the decoy.
7 to 8 yards, but I set my jake deke where his head is more visible to where a gobbler might approach from. I try to use the color (head) and body posture of the deke to my advantage.
I put my Jake 5 years from my seat facing me. Never had any issues with getting seen.
About 5 to 8 yards
I set a hen, facing away at 5 yards and a Jake, facing me, at 10 yards. Often, the tom will make an effort to get between them.
15 yards here. I don't use a blind and don't want them to close.
Close! 5-7 yards facing the blind is perfect.
The closer the better for me as well.
Another for 10-12 yds.
7 to 9 yards. If a bird is going to commit, blind distance does not matter.
