Title: arrow rest
Post by: Arrowcraft on April 07, 2017, 02:12:00 PM
was wondering what most people are using for side plate and rest material . I am presently shooting my tall tines recurves with the velcro material that Brian uses .I am curious if most use the velcro or may have changed it out to fine tune the bow .

I currently use the bear hair rest and leather side plate.
I've have used Velcro, all leather and even the stick on furniture sliders from the hardware store.
Don't be afraid to play around

I like the Bear Hair rest and a thin leather sideplate. Lately, all the Bear Hair stickum is drying out and falling off the bow. Iv'e had to replace a few rests, Think Im going to change to thick leather rest and glue it down with Barge cement.

I've used about everything over the years, including various close cropped fabrics like Bear Hair, calf skin, seal skin, etc. Now, I have leather and/or velcro on all my bows.

Bear hair rest with leather strike plate on one.  hair rest with stick-on felt furniture pad on the other.  These are identical left/right Sage risers.  I don't notice much difference either way.

For selfbows, I've used Bear Hair rests for the shelf & scraps of 5-6 oz leather for strike plates.  My latest is shot right off the hand with a leather arrow pass.

Feather rests with a leather strike plate on a few. Soft side of Velcro on most. It's really hard to beat. Cheap, easy to find and cut, plus it's quiet and slick.

Velcro is great but I think I like a wild turkey feather rest even better .

I use Velcro on most my bows...can pick up a large roll of it for cheap and lasts a long time. and makes it cheap to replace to keep them lookin nice if you like.

I have come to like velcro for the rest and the side plate.  It is very forgiving on the plate.  I think the softness counters the slightly increased thickness.

Like I said I like sealskin, but the turkey feather arrorest sounds like it would be great also.

Wood to wood contact on the side, finger on the bottom.  That bow has killed over 30 animals in two years, have not had one animal that was not moving start running or flying, while I was drawing.  I do have leather on a couple other bows.

If you need something thin, try Dr. Scholl's moleskin padding. It works.
