I m looking to order one, a R/D longbow....Shrew maybe, BW? I haven't shot a shrew. Any guidance will be appreciated, Fred
You might take a look at a Sarrels Blueridge or Blueridge SR. The Blueridge has been my goto bow since 2009!
Bisch
Say Bosch do have a link to their web site
I can't seam to find them
I've owned most all of them.. My favorite is a Stewart Special... Shoots as fast as the fastest bow out there but stable and mild mannered as a longer longbow.. But only 62" long.....
For a longer reflex reflex the regular slammer is great.. I also like timber point bows....
Should be Bisch
Dang phone wants to do the spelling
We all have our favorites. I've liked Robertson longbows for many years and am now shooting a Toelke Whip. Any bow design is a compromise and for me, the Whip is about the best.

Actually, he is redesigning his website, so it is down for a little while. He has a facebook page you can find him on. I don't do fb, so I cant get you there.

Its hard to guide anyone to one specific bow.Thiers so many excellent choices and so many different styles of longbows.I can assure you any bow listed here will be a good bow.Certainly a good bow or great bow for the archer recommending it.But it might not be the bow for you.
I would go to a shoot with as many venders as possible and shoot as many bows as possible for a few days and see what you might find that you personally love.Denton Hill in PA. in July might as close as you can be from New Hampshire to find the needle in the haystack.Might be worth the trip and you would enjoy yourself.Bring some $.
Or just buy hundreds of bows second hand like many addicts over the years and see what you find out.
I would suggest you atleast do a test drive on a widow
Toelke Whip or Pika, these are amazing little bows.
I have owned and own both Shrews and BW and I actually like them equally. However if I could only own one a recurve it would be a BW, if I could only own a Longbow it would be the Shrew.
However that's my opinion, like what is already mentioned to each their own. You need to shoot as many bows as possible!
Kanati, Jason is a GREAT guy to deal with!
Give Steve a call at Northern Mist, either his Superior or Baraga would probably fit the bill for you. Great guy to deal with and is always willing to talk with you and answer any questions.
Jason
What's your budget for said bow?
I'd recommend either a Toelke Whip, or a Maddog Prairie Predator.
Do you have a specific length in mind or ste of grip?
Toelke Pika is always the right decision.
Check out the Liberty Edge, quiet, fast, & stable. Allen more than likely has one you can try.
BigJim Buffalo! Or Thunder Child. Everything a Widow is and more for bang for, your buck!
Toelke Whip
Up to 650$ Liberty contender, chief ,edge. Mohawk Sparrow hawk, Dwyer bows. Up to 1000$ Centaur, Stewart,Big Jim Buffalo. Just my preference FWIW
Toelke Pika...
so my budget? I'm willing to pay for a good one...Tolke Whip Eh? I'll check them out. Someone asked specs of what i would like...60" 60-62@28...Id like a 2pc I think as I do some fat bike travel to get in to some of my hunting locations...I had a 2 pc BW sold it few years back and immediately regretted doing it. So now I'm looking to fill that void. Before I buy another BW I wanted look at other bows first. Is Toelke, Shrew, Big Jim, Liberty at Denton Hill? Isn't there another bow similar to shrew? I think it was made by someone close or that used to be affiliated with the shrew...am I crazy? hahaha thanks everyone for the input. I really appreciate it, Fred
the Toelke whip looks pretty sweet!...looking up the others mentioned
Thunderchild looks awesome too...too many bows...my wife has got to work some more overtime!
Save your money, and avoid a long wait. Give Randy at primaltech a call! One of the best longbows I've ever shot! He is newer to the market and I think he only has a Facebook page right now. P.m. me if you need any information
I wouldn't recommend black widow longbows, they stack and they're overpriced. The shrew was an incredible bow but you'll have a long wait. I also give Dan toelke a hard look
Fox Royal Crown, my favorite.
Big Jim,Hill country,Dwyer, zipper,to name a few will be at ETAR this year

That is the best plan test shoot as many as possible go to ETAR in July. You will know when you find the bow and bowyer you like
I will have to disagree with Michael about the BWs stacking. I owned and shot them for years and as long as you stay within their recommended draw lengths they do not stack. Same thing for all bows is that if you draw it past the designed max draw they will stack.
Yes they are pricy but as with most things you get what you pay for.
Having said that there are a lot of good bowyers out their and some of them have been listed above.
You can spend your dollars with them and be rest assured that it was money well spent.
Their has been a couple of Toelke Whip and Pike bows mentioned and while I have never shot a Whip I do own a couple of Pikas and if the whip is as good as the Pikas ( some would say better because they are longer,i wont argue with them)you cant go wrong.
The pikas are a little short for a lot of shooters but if your draw length is 29" or less and need a close quarters bow they are shooting machines.
Take your time as they all cost money and it is real easy to fall into the other guys bows are more accurate and before long you have spent a lot of money and are still looking for the magic bow.
Get a good quality bow that fits you and learn to shoot it.
good luck
I would recommend going to a local traditional archery shoot/festival. You can test drive a ton of bows and meet a large amount of venders. Each bow is unique as is everyone's preference. But in saying that, I personally have a Big Jim's Buffalo bow and Thunderchild and love both of them. I would also look into a Toelke Pika or whip, centaur, stalker, etc.
I'll say it again... TOELKE WHIP !!!
Java Man is the bow I think you're thinking of that is similar to the Shrew. I just bought an Elkheart at the bow show in Kalamazoo in January, and love how it shoots!
Jason
thanks Jason, ill give them a look too.
I like a pronghorn but gosh dangit these trad bows are so individual. Try it..feel it...like it...love it.
Peace

The wait for a Whip or Pika is around 8 to 10 weeks. Dan also has some bows in stock.
Roy Hall Navajo bows AWESOME
Kanati, whip or pika get my vote.
Does Toelke come to Denton Hill usually?
The wait time for a a Whip or Pika is currently about 4 weeks
I've had a Kanati for several years and I can't find one I would trade it for. I wish I could clone the one I have!
Theres some Kimsha D/R bows in the classifieds

Never have seen the Toelke's at Denton
If you can find an Abbott, you might enjoy it. They are really sweet shooters. Unfortunately they are no longer made, but you might find one in the classifieds.
if your ordering new, most bowyers are at least 6 months and some a year or even longer. Dan can have you a new one at your specs in around a month. If that matters to you. Call him and you'll buy from him. Great guy and great bowyer. Grips are unbelievable. I hope to find a used chinook or whip end of the summer.
The Longhorn by Jim Belcher is an under the radar sweet shooter. Worth a look for sure.
For three piece take a look at Legends bows out of California. Great shooters!
Superior or Baraga from Northern Mist. Hands down the best built out there.
Pronghorn is a good one...think I'll go shoot mine now. He should be about four weeks out.
There's a reason some bowyers have longer lead times than others. It's just the business. If they're a full time bowyer with a longer build time, it's because the product is in demand and better.
Thanks fella's , A buddy of mine has a Dwyer..says its the best bow he has ever owned..gonna try that one out. I was hoping this thread would make my choice easier...hahaha now its even harder! Says something good about the bowyer world tho...seems to be many great bows out there!
I picked up a used Sky Trophy Hunter longbow this past winter. amo 66", 41# @28" and 46-47# @ my ~30" draw length (perfect for my needs).
Bubinga riser, maple limbs, black glass, slight D/R. Smooth drawing, and points very nicely. It is very quick, quiet, and I don't notice any hand shock. Bowyer: Jim Belcher. The bow is made on a form Earl Hoyt Jr. designed/made. COST: New ~ $350.

My Sky Trophy Hunter was made about 2 years ago. I have to report that I am VERY happy with this bow. It is a HIGH VALUE product.
Sky makes a more highly deflex/reflex longbow called the Longhorn.

I know its been said... but a WHIP is hard to beat.
