Title: Lighter colored bows
Post by: Medley on March 21, 2017, 01:08:00 AM
Im curious if there are many lighter colored bows out there? I'm trying to picture a bow with a riser made of Curly Maple, Ash, or Holly?

Anybody have any pictures of bows like this? I'm thinking of ordering something like this, maybe with some black glass, maybe some Purple Heart in the riser? Or Paduak?

Opinions anybody?

My father has one that's a light colored maple riser.  It's not my cup of tea but it looks nice.  My bows are for hunting so I prefer they are not too light or dark.

One time, I had a Ben Pearson bow that had light maple riser with white glass.  It looked really nice but at 30 lbs. It wasn't going to the stand with me. Ended up gifting it to some kids.

I can't post pictures but I am sure you can google search bows. Hopefully someone will be along and post some pics for you.

Do you consider Osage as a light colored wood?

The lightest colored bow I hunt with is a yew bow with a chocolate colored back. It is sort of caramel colored. However, my bamboo cored bows have the light bamboo visible down the sides of the limbs, whatever the color of the glass.

I just bought a Dan Quillian bow with maple limbs, but it is not yet set up.

I personally don't think bow color is all that crucial, but I don't want to take a chance, Personally, though, most of the bows that I have truly admired are dark.

I have a bear bearcat with white limbs and a zebra wood wood riser. The zebra wood is fairly light.

Schultz and Hill killed all kinds of game with White bows. I prefer them a bit darker. I have several with Osage.....but even that gets darker with time.

On a Colorado bowhunt.

With a satin finish, I did not bother me.

This is a bow I had Mike Dunnaway (Wild Horse Creek Bows) make me last year. It's Karelian birch burl on the limbs and the riser is pau ferro.

Thanks everybody. I'm really liking that curly maple. So many choices out there, tough to pick something that you can only imagine, not see.

I saw a picture of a bow years ago, can't even remember what it was. But it was a very light colored longbow with black glass, and it has always stuck with me. Just had a very simple, natural, elegant look to it

man there are some pretty bows out there. I saw a bow Tracy at  st joe river made last year at Compton I think. It was light colored and beautiful as are all her bows. But that one stood out to me. It made me want a lighter colored bow. I'd ask her what she has.
