Another poll. The scenario is the bass are on a tear and biting like crazy hitting surface plugs with abandon. The walleye are biting like crazy. The stripers are on a feeding frenzy. The trout are hitting any fly thrown at them and the tuna are tearing it up offshore.
Which would you rather be doing fishing or stumping?
I'm more of a turf than surf guy. I used to bass fish, but my brother got really into it, watching all the shows, reading books and buying every lure on the market. He turned everything into a competition and was always pointing out how his way of fishing was the only way of fishing etc. etc. He sort of unintentionally took the fun out of it for me. If you change that from bass to walleye, then that might flip my vote.
I changed it.
Actually, it depends largely on the weather. On a cool day, I might prefer stumping, but if it is very hot, like Georgia weather often gets, I'd rather be in the mountains on a trout stream.
And the rivers are full of steelhead!
Look, I love stumping. Really. But it's not every day bass are tearing up the surface plugs and walleye and jumping into the boat. I voted fishing as a result, based on your description. I can stump any day. Let the hating begin.
:archer2:
Since I also tie my own flies......I have to pick fishing.
Well there's only two places that I stump shoot right now and the fishing season around here in cold New Jersey is about 5-6 months of warm weather whereas you can shoot the bow nearly year round (besides January and February when it is very windy and cold).
That being said I love surf fishing. I want to get into making fly rods and giving salt water fly fishing with bamboo and wooden rods a try though, looks more rewarding and looks like a ton of fun.
I'll stump shoot when the fish stop biting. I don't care what species either.
Depends on the season. But I picked fishing. Fly is my most common method but spear is my favorite. It's hunting, just in the water and a very short time clock (free diving).
To everything there is a season. When the sun is shining, you make hay.
That was a tough one. But man, there is nothing like catching a nice wild brown trout on a dry fly and having him take you down to your backing.
Fishing. Ahi fishing puts a lot of food on the table and stumps are pretty tough eating.

My thoughts exactly! The stumps aren't going anywhere! :scared:
Fish taste better then stumps....
Are the fish always hitting? No!
Are the Stumps going anywhere? No!
It's not often that the saltwater fish are "tearing it up", especially when using a flyrod. As much as I love bowhunting, aggressive ocean fish on flies would be my choice!!
Why can't I go stumping after I have filled the cooler with fish? :bigsmyl:
My problem is turkey season starts at the same time the Crappie are spawning on the two lakes 3 miles from my house. I usually opt for the turkeys even though in three years of trying I have come close but never connected with my bow. Somehow I have a feeling this is going to be the year.
Lol! When the big blues are biting you know we're I will be :bigsmyl:

How about we compromise and go bow fishing? ;)
Yup. As Allen so succinctly put it, the stumps aren't going anywhere. This is what's known as a "no-brainer". Assuming one like to fish, of course.
My mother was from Canada and all her relatives stilled lived there so growing up we went up there on the lakes and fished every summer. This pretty well ruined me for fishing in Indiana - therefore voted for the bow.
I picked fishing. A few weeks in the spring or fall to chase steelhead or salmon on light tackle is addictive. I can stump year round and I do.
Yes, been shooting stumps, shooting suckers in the creek, and stalking first groundhogs of the season!
The mild weather has been nice!
If the walleyes are on a tear I'm on the lake.As Allen said the stumps will be there tomorrow, in fact I would be fishing the next day just in case the bite is still on.
Fish first, stump later.
If the walleye or jumbo perch are biting, then I'll definitely be on the water. If it's the middle of summer and there's a storm coming, I'll guarantee that I'll be back in the woods along some stream trying to catch some brook trout.
It's like asking where would you rather be, Treestand where big bucks are walking past every 20 minutes in very comfortable weather or ice fishing in a shack where perch are nibbling occasionally.
My fishing luck is par with my hunting luck....I'll go stumping. I always get at least one stump. :dunno:
Once the hot bite is over then grab the bow and wind down
