I recently got my new maddog prairie predator in and have been using my same wood arrows that I use with my black widow. The widow is a 52@28 and the maddog is a 45@28. They are both shooting the same 629 grain arrow extremely well. Is it odd to have an arrow that heavy work for a longbow of that weight? It comes out to right at 14 gpp. And by the way, I love the maddog. It shoots these arrows with authority and I got that thing to be whisper quiet.
Excellent..
Nope. Not odd. Most bows will shoot a range of spines and weights well.
A little bit odd to me, seeing how the widow is cut to center, and Prairie Predators are before center. All 4 of ours took a bit weaker arrow then even a comprable center cut bow
I have three bows that shoot the same arrow .
From 42# - 55# .
And I have one recurve that is 45# and shoots a 10# heavier arrow than the other three bows .
Explain that .
Question.....How do figure a gpp? Thanks

I don't know how to post a link, but if you go to the spine calculator on 3 rivers you can put in your bow and arrow info and it will give your gpp.
Divide your arrow weight by your draw weight.
629 grains / 45# = 13.98 gpp
That's assuming your draw length is the same as your bow is supposed to draw. I only draw about 27", so I'm actually shooting 41-42# at my draw on my 45# bow, so 629/42=14.98.
If you are drawing a lighter weight bow a bit further than you do a heavy one, that may account for some of the difference.
Weight of arrow divided by bow weight Ie; 600gr arrow divided by 60# of draw weight = 10 gpp
Thanks for the input. I was really happy to see that I can shoot the same arrows out of both bows without changing anything. I'm really enjoying shooting that longbow. It's a pleasure to shoot with. If anybody is on the fence about the prairie predator....I say order one, you won't be disappointed.
Thanks Jake, for the props

I got to shoot Jake's bow Friday and I must say this is the first Maddog bow I have seen in person,I was impressed with the bows performance and craftsmanship.
I was also surprised it shot the same arrows as his Black Widow.
Ive shot as high as 19 gpp out of my Maddogs, but I came to prefer 15 gpp.
