I'm sure this is a much discussed topic here, so I apologize for any redundancy. It also seems like a topic that needs to be updated if new sources come along or shops close down...
I've been a carbon/alum guy for years, but I want to make the switch to wood. I usually cut and fletch my own arrows, but I think for the first dozen I want to buy them pre-straightened,knocked, fletched, pointed, ready to aim.
Does anyone know the best source online for custom wood arrows?
Also, I shoot a 50#@28 bow most of the time, sometimes heavier (I'm an amateur bowyer and I can't seem to be consistent). My draw is just over 27", I believe. What spine would be recommended. In carbon, I use 400 or 500 eastons and bemans. I'm not sure how the conversion works.
Thanks you so much! Advice appreciated!

Also if anyone understands the conversion between spines of carbon vs wood, the interwebs are very difficult for me to understand.

3rivers archery will sale you complete wood arrows they are a sponsor here as far as spine I'd get a test kit first wood can be a tricky thing at times

Lots of sponsors here. D and M Lost nation footed shaft
Nocking point etc.

I just shot with a friend who had recently purchased a dozen from D&M. They were spliced and they were gorgeous. A little pricey but considering the time and craftsmanship involved, not too bad. Personally, it would make me sick to shoot and lose or break one.

I'd buy arrows from 3rivers if I was you. They have decent arrows ready to go.

Rose City as well.
-
Paul Jalon at Elite arrows. The best you will find.

Just got a set from D&M myself. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

if just wanting some arrows to shoot around yard or stump shoot and money is an issue vs quality...the HUNTER arrows from 3Rivers are hard to beat.
If you want premium hunting arrows then I dont think you can beat Raptor Archery.....I have never been disappointed when ordering a set from him though I mostly make my own. When I make my own they are plain and simple....but every now and then I like some pretty arrows...then I go to Raptor. :)

Tom Parsons at Kimsha Archery makes arrows for G. Fred Asbell. Tom is a sponsor here so check him out.

I think "ready" to shoot is doing you a disservice. Will not allow for any fine adjustments.
Your description of a bow is abou as rough as it can be. How about you tell us what you currently shoot when it comes to Aluminum/Carbons?
The conversion is:
Wood spine= [26/(deflection of aluminum or carbon in inches)] x 1.2115
Attention, generally only good when shafts have diameters comparable to wood shafts in their spine class. So 5/16 or above in diameter).
Depending on manufacturer of you carbons, slight adjustment may be required. Wood reacts dynamically slightly weaker than hollow tubes, due to the mass per inch of an arrow shafts, which is often 1/3 higher than a carbon.
There is a also a difference between softwood shafting. POC and Douglas Fir react pretty much the same. Sitka Spruce reacts stiffer, because fibers are longer and mass is lower as well.
The correct way is to order a test set from a reputable fletcher, shoot the correct spine and length out and then order that from the same supplier.
Always order full length without points. You will be able to fine tune the arrow cutting it in 1/4" increments to the sweet spot of your bow. Sometimes with cut to length shafts you may just be that tad away from perfec and a heavier tip will make them a small tad too weak. Fine tuning with length and point weight makes more sense.
