Failing to pick a spot is my biggest downfall.  :knothead:

Last season I missed 3 bucks,  all within 20 yards and I shot under each one.  Of course they were not in the class of your deer which should give you an excuse for missing.  ;)

"PICK A SPOT!!!"

If you`re gonna miss, might as well miss big!!!!!!!

I don`t know if I have ever even seen a 180 class buck alive, in the wild.

Heres to second chances!!

Best of luck.

I missed one with my compound a couple of years ago here in NE Kansas that I bet would be close to that 180 mark. Missed him twice actually. First shot my mind told me 35yds and I shot under him. He ran about twenty yards, grunted and came right back to the same spot. How many times does this happen. I guessed him again at 35 and shot under him again. He was about 44yds. I know how you feel. Nothing can make you feel better after a miss on a giant buck but time. Hopefully you will get a second chance and put him in the truck!

Well i have been at work all night my mind is racing but im going to be fine.About 9 years ago my brothenlaw missed a monster of a buck in the same area.during our gun season a guy came to our camp and said i heard a story about one of you hiting a buck in the spine. as we looked in his truck thier he was snuffer mark in the back.that was the last time we used traditional bows. But we have maured using traditional gear is much more than the KILL .Iknow i am new to this web site but im not giving up thanks for the support ,by the way that buck scored 187 bc

Keep at it, I have a terrible time picking a spot when it's crunch time. Can do it every other time though. Good luck and post pics when you do connect!

This will just make it sweeter when you do get him. I can barely see any deer at all let alone a 180 class. You definatly doing it right. Good luck with it.

Years ago at the first or second Denton Hill shoot, I got to talkin' to Stacy Grosscup after he did a shooting demonstration. We talked about pickin' a spot. He said to try and imagine an aspirin or a dime or even an orange dot on the deer. It's not that easy to do. I was doing it for a while but I've gotten away from it over the years. Might want to give it a try.

Well I did the same last night on a 130 inch 8 point. Pick a spot...the spot. I hope my lesson is learned too. Your deer will be back...go get him!

I read a book by Jay Kidwell called Instinctive Archery Insights. He speaks about using a button and imagery. You find a button, mine is a pin from our Archery Club and it's about 1.5 inches across. You put the button in your pocket and every now and then pull it out and look at it. I placed mine on the dash of the company vehicle where I see it 50 times a day. And you imagine your button on anything you want to shoot, and in your mind you draw and shoot at the button. As you release you tell yourself, I am going to watch my arrow fly into my button. I have done this god knows how many times while working or whenever the urge strikes me. And it works, I always hit my button when I shot, now every time I see a deer, the first thing I see is my button right there in the center of it's chest. I don't even see the antlers, just the button. Now as soon as I see a deer this year, I'll let ya all know how it works:)

I did the same thing this year on a doe. I know it isn't even close to what you encountered, but I feel your pain. Hopefully I learned my lesson as well.

OK, as long as we are talking about mmmmmiissses on big ones I better come clean.  Last Thursday I hunted all day, passed 2 smaller bucks having my sights set on something bigger.  Finally at 11:15 a.m.  I see him, bone white rack, 5 x 4 frame and stickers on his brow tines.  He came back thru about 5:45, this time by my stand and I mmmmiisssed him at 14 yards by not picking a spot, Sheesh! Couldn't believe it! Made the shot oodles of times in practice.  Only bright side is that I didn't wound him.  UUUGGHHH!
