Have a 67" recurve needing strings. When ordering strings Do you order 67" or 4 inches less. Something I read on the internet. Thanks
Best is to measure an existing string. 2nd best is to contact the bowyer. Crap shoot otherwise unless your builder has made one before for that particular bow. Good luck

SteveB is spot on. I ask my customers to measure their existing string-off the bow, if at all possible. I try to keep notes on most of the more popular bows. Sometimes a quick call to the bowyer is needed.
Yes, set your brace height where you want it, then take the string off and measure it. Should be close.
I bought a used bow that had the wrong length string.Always check with the bowyer when possible.

Don't want to hijack a thread but I thought strings were supposed to be measured under tension? I usually make my own 'string' using lightweight parachord and get the proper brace then measure that 'string'. DO NOT try to shoot that string though!
Thanks guys The bow is a used 69 Black Widow. It is signed with 67" as its length. It did not come with strings to measure. I assumed that 67" would be the replacement string size. I may have to call Black Widow.
I think your safest bet is to call Black Widow since you don't have a string on it now. Jus be sure to communicate with your string builder as to how they prefer to have it measured.
AMO is 3" shorter than the marked bow length (doesn't matter what type--longbow, recurve, flatbow, etc.) measured under a 100# load.
However..lots of bows aren't correctly marked according to AMO. Old or new.
Best bet is to contact BW. Great folks to talk with.
