while working Tuesday towards the end of my route I slipped on the ice when I got up I instantly knew I separated my shoulder, not good! as I climbed back on the truck I felt my whole left side shift back in place with some grinding and a pop. awful pain for awhile and took today off work, I hope for a quick recovery without a need for doctors. I could not pull back a kids bow with suction cup arrows at this point....
If you don't feel much better in a week, I would head to see the Doctor. Good luck on your recovery.
Tough news Ken. Ya really might want to consider seeing a doctor. If you have some damage (and it sounds like you may have), it would speed the recovery. Take care, my friend!
Hey Ken... If you don't have your own x-ray machine home, maybe you should see a doctor soon... Just sayin' :dunno: ...
... mike ...
Ouch! Hope ya heal up quickly.

I agree. I'm one who has a history of holding out until it gets better on its own. I now have a prosthetic knee as a consequence. Best to find out what damage you did, then make your own decision on whether or not to get the treatment they recommend.
Sounds like some good advice here! I hope it's not to serious. Keep us updated  for a speedy recovery.

So true Ken..in an instant. You should have it looked at just to see what's going on in there...
Feel better dude
Don't be the tuff guy it could cost you, hope it's not bad and you can get to feeling better quickly.
I to slipped on the ice 4yrs ago this month, landed on my butt very hard. My neck snapped horribly and I was on blood thinners at the time. Went into the house with a horrible head ache and stiff neck, within a few hours a was throwing up uncontrollably but my head was terrible. I was rushed to the hospital then flown to the KU med were the found 9 brain hemorrhages. 3 brain surgeries, removed my skull plate twice and a year and half of therapys learning to talk and walk again and I recovered pretty good. I have no memories of the hospital stay or a lot of therapys. Took a while but bow hunting came back and a lot of other things, just have to modify what I do.
So, don't put it off go have it checked out. Like you said it can change in an instant!
Tracy
I would go to the doc you may have damaged more than you think !!!
I think you are making a serious mistake by not going to the doctor immediately. You said it was painful, and pain is the body's way of saying something is wrong. Don't fool around with a bad shoulder as it can end your archery career if there is an unattended problem.
See the Doc Ken so you don't pay in spades down the road my friend.
Deno
Sorry to hear this Ken.
In my non-doctor opinion, go to see a doctor. We had a guy, at work, dislocate his shoulder 5 weeks ago. They had him in a sling, immobilized, for 4 weeks then MRI revealed two torn ligaments and rotator cuff. He had surgery yesterday and is expected to be out another 4-5 months.
Do yourself a favor, spend the money to get checked out now and not regret it when you get older.
Hope you heal fast, Ken.
Ken,
As most have said have it checked out by a doctor or go to the emergency room an have it checked out. It may be nothing or it could require more attention and it's always best to error on the safe side.
Regards,
Rick
Hey bud.......get your but to a doctor and not some local yahoo. Ortho N.Y. or the Bone and Joint center in Albany. Don't wait.
Prayers for God's grace to provide quick and complete healing.
I would chime in with the rest and recommend a visit to a competent doctor. A few years ago at work my wife slipped and went down on her thumb...bent it back to her wrist. Went to the "local yokel" who said she could go back to work on with some restrictions. She's a machinist and that night could not even pick up parts or tools. Came home crying half way through the night. I rushed her up to Mayo Clinic and turned out the tendons were ripped right off the bone. They took her into surgery immediately.
If we would not have gone when we did, eventually those things can't be fixed. She would have lost the use of her thumb permanently. Also a good example of why a person wants to see a competent doctor.

Tracy,
I had no idea! Glad you're alright, bud! I will be texting you soon to share my hopes of a big cat fish on my line! haha!
Yes, to all the above!
Assuming no accident report? Not good.
Most sincere gratitude for the gifts we have had and the gifts we have now is paramount.
Now is all we have. The next moment is a gift.
Certainly, am most hoeful that you recover soon.
getting better have put ice on it for 2 days and taking ibuprofen, still some soreness. to be honest with you why I did not go to the doctor the company I work for treats you like a war criminal over injury's on the job. they will hound you to your last day when you file an injury report and loose time. in 21 years there I have never sought medical attention or lost time due to injury. I know I know its no excuse.
My brother didn't work for UPS but fell at Coka Cola while driving truck, he also never reported it now wishes after neck surgery that he'd been smarter. Fear will cause you to make bad decesions.
If you tore your labrum its not going to get better. It will stop hurting but it will get worse over time until your shoulder falls out of socket every time you flip a light switch. ( I know from experience) go get it checked out. I had surgery on my right shoulder to fix a similar injury that I left for about 13 years.

Life loves that curve ball. Get better soon.
Bramos
you need to report it NOW
your company doesn't give a rat's a$$ if you sit home with no pay while you recover. Ask me how I know - torn rotator with unemployment for 3 months as my only source of income.
With all due respect...no excuse!
Deno
Ken,
Praying for a speedy recovery.
I took advantage of the first warm, non rain or snow day in a month on 1 Feb to fix a minor leak in a gutter over the front door. Long- short I fell flat on my back from only 8 feet. ER gave me pain pills, spasm controllers and something to reduce swelling. 2 days later I was back in the ER where by I got about 50 injections down my back. Two weeks ago and I have not been out of the house or slept in a bed. Easy to be hard- hard to do the right thing. Care for your body, friend, the only one you have. Prayers and I feel your pain-really

Ken an old friend sued them for that exact same thing, instead of helping him they blocked all his options and used scare tactics acting like he was lying... he got a personal injury lawyer and they had to pay him a ton of money PLUS they couldn't fire him for suing them but he left anyway and went to work for their competitor..... I know who you work for and they are rough on their employees mostly the warehouse people but non the less..
Here in Nova Scotia we have Worker's Compensation, something all employers pay into. Hurt on the job? Easy money through the Worker's Comp? Not necessarily, they don't like to pay out either.
That personal injury lawyer idea is a good one. Just talk to one at least, can't hurt.
Not properly attended to old injuries have a way of coming back to haunt you. Too late then.
Ken,
I lot of guys here have mentioned going to the doctor, rightfully so. This is why we have insurance in the first place. Not one for doctors myself, I would not hesitate in this situation. Self diagnosis can be very harmful. You have nothing to lose by getting a professional opinion. Good luck my friend!!
Kenny
Ken,
It is better to be safe than sorry.
A quick MRI and or Doctor check will be able to give you the peace of mind to allow you which route to take next.
Please, don't play around.
Get it checked out.
after trying to tuff it out went down in a heap today at work when doing a routine job felt my shoulder EXPLODE.... called it in came off the road filled out report went to doc's who referred me to an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. yup you told me so.....
sitting here in pain taking hydrocodone
Sad to hear that Ken!
:(
F-Manny

Sorry to hear it Ken...keep the faith. Hoping it works out for you.
Sorry to hear. Hope they get you fixed up and on the road to recovery.
Good luck, Ken.
Glad you now have control of it Ken... The little one who calls you "Daddy" is the reason for you to stay healthy!

Be all ears tomorrow my friend. Good Luck

I repeat.........
:saywhat:
Ken,
Not good news for sure. Hope the pain fades and I also recommend you see someone like a sports injury specialist who understands the life you have with bowhunting and fly-fishing.
We need you back the way you were!
Get better ken.
Ken, this time listen up! It is good to hear that you have made a medical appointment. Do what the doctor tells you so that you don't have further complications. Take whatever steps are necessary so that in the future you will still be able to pull a bow. We all hope to hear of improvement soon. Good luck.
Sorry to hear this Ken. Hope you have a quick and speedy recovery. Follow doctor's orders to a T!!
I hurt my neck in a pretty rough collision playing hockey 2 weeks ago. Bulging disc, lots of pain, nerve pinch causing numbness and pain all down my arm... It really affected me for the bad at home, at work, and everywhere in between. The pain has begun to subside now, but ugh!
I went to the doc right away, got an MRI, figured what the problem was and wasn't. While I may be done playing competitive hockey now, it looks like I'll still be able to shoot all my bows.
I'm with the rest of the crowd here.... Go see your M.D.
Sorry to hear this brother, I agree with whats been said above. Never put off a injury, been having back problems and went in for x-rays. They determined at one time years ago i fractured my L5 in two an now Arthur is holding it together.Sending smoke for a speedy recovery...
Get better bud, go to the dr.
now I am very angary and frustrated on how the course of this ridiculous insurance thing works! I got xrays which show dislocation but need an MRI to see farther damage. workmans comp has to ok MRI which takes up to 2 weeks!!!! got put on light duty so I do not loose work time. I hate waiting, hurting and waiting on paper work to be pushed through!!!!!!
Get pre approved, and get documentation before having the MRI. I just got a letter - 3 days after I had my MRI - that said the insurance doesn't approve and won't cover it! I received verbal confirmation of a pre approval, but don't know if that's going to get me anywhere.
While Working...
Report it to a supervisor and seek a doctor. Period!
Killdeer :banghead:
Love you, brother.
Ken, first and foremost the best to you and family!
No matter how ugly they can be, if you follow thru, properly, laws are in place!
Now,also remember the company has a commitment to it's customers and so takes this hard stance!
Remember the posts, up÷# messed up my bow! Or to Killy, the Post o#\\€=€£ lost my bow!
They have a commitment, also! This is their hardline!
Not to preach, but being able to pull a bow is last on your priorities!
I pray for your family and all who call you friend!
