I know has hunters we usually jump from season to season. Most hunters just enjoy being in the woods regardless of what they are chasing at the time. Well my mind has already switched gears to Turkey season. So lets get this started with you sharing you equipment and your favorite strategies. I'll be using my Palmer 47# recurve with heritage 90's and Palmer Extreme Cut broadheads which is a big 4 blade head. worked great on the gobbler I took last year.
Thanks! What is your best strategy for turkey with a bow? I know a lot of people just get in a blind but I don't have a blind at the moment and don't figure I will have one when the season gets here.
I use my same Sarrels Blueridge and same German Kinetic broadheads for turkeys. "If id ain't broke, don't fix it!".
I'm into pigs and exatics now. Turkey season is still almost two months away!

Spring Bear, spot and stalk but I'll be using a rifle.
Turkey, its all about introducing a couple coworkers to turkey hunting this year. For my coworker Wayne, it'll be his first year ever hunting. Wayne's got a 30# borrowed Bear Black Bear and it looks like he'll upgrade to a heavier bow and can use either a shotgun or his bow for turkeys.
I've got a piece of private property that I've had a great relationship with the owner for more than 10 years.
We set up in a ground blind and there are always turkeys rooster on the property and some of the other nearby properties. We just call them in.

I live in Snead, Alabama now. I am actually from Guin, Alabama.
Semi-still hunt while calling occasionally to try to locate a tom. Setup & hide fast in whatever cover I can find & get into quietly. Call them for a while until they eventually walk off with a cluster of hens. Repeat the next day.
I used to have a good spot back closer to where I grew up but it's all been developed with houses now. I know of only one roosting spot near here and it's on state park land (no hunting). I setup on the border and have to try to get the toms as they go about their day.
That reminds me -- I need to put in for the drawing for that state park land...
I don't have a place to turkey hunt, but I got a new stand setup for hog hunting ready today. It'll be a couple weeks before I hunt it, but I'll be shooting my new Black Widow PCH with GT 400's and 145 grain Zwickey Eskilites. Also have an exotic hunt coming up in a couple weeks and will be using the same setup there.

Turkey strategy was worked out between last season thru deer season. Very little to do other than some preseason earlier morning listening.
Have harvested birds from simple hand built blinds...minimal investment and very effective.
Spending considerable time now scouting and prepping areas for next deer season.
Nothing is gonna change really, except probably shorten my shafts from 30" to 28". Sitting a little heavy right now in the 710-20 range. Probably remove some weights and get some speed back. ABS Grizz Sticks tipped with 125gr Maasai heads.
Biggest change will be using my new Ghost Blind. If you could have seen how it looked in the snow!!! :bigsmyl:

Well bunnies are up first and I use several different setups for them it all depends on the day, where we hunt and the weather.
Then as soon as the ice thaws and the docks are open we'll be shooting fish, mainly carp, suckers, dog fish and gar pike. I will be using a 55lb Bear 76er with a Muzzy Pro reel and Muzzy arrows and tips.
Then I will be chasing turkeys with my 55lb Shrew Classic Hunter with Paul Jalons Autumn Legend arrows tipped with 190 Grizzlies and Tusker Concord heads!
I don't have anywhere to hunt turkeys close to home so I never got into the habit.
Just waiting for spring fishing now.
I had wanted to take a pig hunting trip somewhere warm but an illness kept me home from work for a few days. That leaves me short on vacation/sick days. There won't be any out of town hunts for me.
Turkey hunting is much more fun than deer hunting to me. There is more moving and looking which helps my ADD. Sitting in a deer stand is fun and I truly enjoy it bit it cant compare to the thunder chicken. I can't compare it to hogs because I haven't ever been on a hog hunt; but since most places don't have bag limit which seems to lend it's self to more fun if you are around hogs.
I got turkey season on the brain already..lol.. I'll be in a pop up blind so I'm leaning towards my '65 Kodiak for the 60" length. It's 54lbs at my draw. Gold Tip shafts and Magnus Stingers..
