Guys and Gals,
Me and a couple of bubbles would like to venture out and get involved in some more shoots than we normally go to, what's out there to attend in the Southern region?
We go to the Spring Fling and the Howard Hill, but might try some others if possible.
And of course there the Twin Oaks event that's billed as granddaddy of them all :goldtooth:
Let me hear about them and i'm sure others would like to know as well.
Traditional Bowhunters of FL and GA both have good state shoots, at least they were when I went. The Real Thing in LA has been on my list for a long time, but I haven't make it yet.
Appling Archers near Augusta,Georgia is a fun event.
Spring Fling Tanahill Ala. Feb. 24-26
sorry, should have read all you post before posting. Terry does a great job.
Louisiana Traditional Bowmen put on the Sterling Harrell Memorial State Championship each year. Its a nice shoot. Heres a link to the website: http://www.louisianatraditionalbowmen.org/events-2017.html
Whats the dates for these other shoots? Anybody have a good schedule or anymore information?
The Real Deal i've heard of and wouldn't mind planning for and also Big Jim has highly recommend the Appling Archers event.
you guys could come to the Louisiana Traditional Bowmen's shoots. They host 2 a year. They are fun events! You would love it!
The shoot in may will even have cabins you guys could split for $40/night(just $10 per bed).
TBOF Spring Shoot March 3-5,2017. Just east of Ocala Florida. Camping, cabins and Bunk houses on site, bathrooms with showers too..
The Big 3 in Texas are (in no particular order):
TBoT Hill Country Shootout - Vanderpool, Tx Apr 8 & 9
Glen Parker Memorial Stickbow Roundup - Chester, Tx - May 20 & 21
Texas State Longbow Championship - Fort Worth, Tx - May 27 & 28
Bisch
I totally agree with Big Jim. Appling in Georgia is a great event to attend.
TBOF is the real deal. This year we have a 20 target range of Wildcrete African targets including Sable Antelope, Wildebeast, Nyala, Kusu, Caracal, Leopard, Duiker, Waterbuck, Baboon, Warthogs, etc. You have not seen targets as cool as these. As far as I know, we are the only club in North America that has them.
Thanks guys! Been mapping out route and seeing whats feasible.
the STA puts on a few shoots close to home too. They will have a few at Learned which is just outside Utica and they will have a couple at Enid Lake.
The ASTB puts on some great shoots every year south of Birmingham at Briarfield Iron Works.

Don't forget the Tenn. Classic near Clarkesville Tenn, May 5-6-7 this year
There's the Rinehart 100 in Homer,Georgia March 18&19

The Real Thing is a great shoot! You guys need to attend that one as well as the shoots the Louisiana Traditional Bowman put on. I'll be looking to attend some shoots in Ms this year so be sure to let me know when and where.
Corey
Hey Cory, Daniel,
What are the dates and location of the "Real Thing" shoot?
Also Kirk and me have "Hope" in June and it would be neat if we could plan that F. R. O. G. Mission with you guys while we have her.

No dates yet for The Real Thing. I'll post them here once they put them up.
I'm game for a frogging trip!
I need to find out when and where the Real Thing shoot and the La Trad Bowmen shoots are. Never been to any trad events, but would like to try it out. What all is typically involved in these shoots?

the two LTB shoots are around Alexandria. The Real Things is held in Baton Rouge. Both are good shoots. The Real things is very swampy. If it rains, it will be wet and MUDDY!
The LTB shoots; one is held at CENLA Bowbenders right inside of Ball, LA. The Sterling Herald (Longbow State Championship) is held at a boy scout camp.
Both are 2 day events and family friendly, but the one in Ball doesn't have any where to stay. The one at the boy scout camp has some 4 single bed cabins you can rent and stay in for $40 per night. If you split it, it's $10 per bed. This one is VERY kid friendly!
There will be a lot of shooting. Each place you will be able to shoot all the rounds you want. The one is Ball is more of a fun shoot. Shoot all you want and turn in your best card. The one at the Boy scout camp is a "championship" meaning you will only get one (your first) round for scoring with each bow. The classes here will be Longbow, Modern LB, Rec, Modern Rec. All that "modern" means is you'll be shooting a modern arrow. No elevated rests, no sights, finger must always be in contact with the arrow( no string walking, etc).
there will be several novelty shoots at each event, though we don't know what they are yet.
Thanks Daniel. I may see if I can make one this year.
Oh yeah, is this 3D, or more of a field archery style shoot? I'm crap on 3D, but I'm even worse on round targets.

Its 3D, laid back fun times. Walk a trail until you come to a stake, find the target and shoot. Then on to the next target. Score keeping is not mandatory. You don't have to turn in a score card if you don't want to. Great practice
Matt,
I went for years without ever going to a 3D shoot, most happened on Sundays when I was stationed at LRAFB and my Sundays were full (church, still is).
But a few years back a good buddy Kirk (Possumhead) got me to go to the Howard Hill shoot that was a 3 day event involving camping.
The stipulation was we would find somewhere to attend a church service.
I never had so much fun in my life shooting a bow!
I and Kirk and Tommy (Pascagoula Archer) try to make an event at least once a year if not more.
If you attend once at a good family friendly shoot I think you'd be hooked :readit:
Here a video from lasts year Howard Hill Classic with a couple of the guys posting on this thread acting as somebodies :biglaugh:

Well you can come to The Real Thing in Baton Rouge. They always have Sunday service there!
Give me a date and a location and well see if I and the others can make it happen. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Besides I hear you have no competition there :biglaugh:
Traditional Bowhunters of Arkansas puts on great shoot. The first is in march. The state championship is usually in July and the longbow championship in the early fall.
There's also the Southern Traditional Archery Society in Mississippi that puts on some great shoots.
Lost Tribe in the Memphis area.
Buck Hollow Bowhunters in Tennessee.
I may think of more before the day is out.
Don't overlook Kentucky Tradfest either. It's a great time
The Real Things is almost always in the last weekend of April and the next weekend is the Sterling Herrald(I know i misspelled it).
We have done services at each one.
You know, a thought is, if it's such a priority to be in a service, why don't you lead one? IF they don't have one, you make it!
It makes me think of the parable in Matthew 9,
"35And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
Your right Daniel and I have thought about it in the past, but the shoots I now attend do have men that have stepped up to do so.
Matt Steed at the Tannehill shoots does an excellence job of preaching the word of God!
Maybe Tommy and me and Kirk if we can drag him along can make the shoot.
