Title: Knotty Osage Bow Help

I've been working on this project off and on for awhile now, but am about to hit it pretty hard this weekend.  This is a straight osage selfbow, 62" ntn, and each limb has five decent knots in them, with another in the handle area......I have it braced to about 4", here it is braced.....

and here it is drawn to 50 lbs at 24"......

I've gone this far this using Dean Torge's design, with the left limb about an inch longer than the right.  

Before I go any further, what I see is that the left limb needs more bending for about the last two thirds, what do you guys think?

By the way, I'm kind of under the gun on this one, it has a place to go.......

David,
   yeah, the right limb looks good so far, but the left seems to be hinging near the fadeout. I would take wood off from about the second lump on the left limb out towards the tips. Take care, Matt

I think the "hinge" is just past the first knot in  the left limb. It is hard to tell without watching the limb move, but that is what it looks like. I like to mark an X where it is bending too much to remind myself NOT to remove any wood in that area. Then work on getting the outer 2/3 of the left limb bending more. Try using a 6" block of wood for a straight edge and checking the gap along the limb when it is bent. This trick helps me find flat spots that need wood removal.

Your left limb is weaker than the right but needs a bit of tiller correction too.  Give the right limb 10 full length scrapes.  Then give the green area about 10.  Exercise like crazy and check it again.

Is that all the junk they grow for osage in NH???

It's coming along just fine from where I sit.

What weight at what draw length are you shooting for?

I'm shooting for 50@28 Keith, with any luck you'll see this one in person in a few weeks on the table at Shawn's......have to try to make it worthwhile.

I think you got that one in the basket! Looks like it's coming along. Sure would like to see more pics.

I got a stave that is probably 6 or 8 years old. Its been sitting around waiting and has aleady been worked to one ring, but I stopped because of all the knots an I did not know much at that time. You've got me thinking of doing that one next. It reminds me of the one you're working on here.

Now you've done it,,, I'm inspired again!

I did the same with this bow, I've had it chased to a ring for a year and a half, finally jumped in on it last week.
