After a lot of research and reading numerous posts on this site, I have narrowed my list of potential broadheads to try to the three heads below:
Wensel Woodsman Elite 150 grain
VPA 3 Blade Non-Vented 150 grain
Strickland's Helix 150 grain
I have read good things about all three of the choices listed above, but I have read that some are concerned with the noise that a vented head such as the Woodsman makes. Do any of you have any input on the pros and cons of these heads?
Thanks.
I can hear the Woodsman heads whistle, so I shoot VPA, only reason to...
Woodsman's don't make noise for me. I shoot them for turkey. Usually use a two or 4-blade for deer and bigger game, however, the woodsman would work just as well. The VPA is pretty much a copy of a Woodsman so will behave the same.
Don't have experience with the Helix. Looks like it would do the job. All good heads. Just get them sharp and put them in the right spot.
I also have woodsman elites and they do whistle. Out of every bow I shoot them out of. So I won't hunt with them even though they are tough. Last few years I've been using VPA heads. They are the real deal and cheaper than woodsman elites. They are also easier to sharpen.
vpa, great head
Vpa, easy to sharpen and fly great!

Place the arrow on the mark and any of the three will produce the same result.
Should have read more carefully. I shoot the standard Woodsman's, not the elite, which have an extra cross member in the cut out section that could create noise.
I would also add Grizzlies to that list.
Why not the eskilite or a zwickey in any configuration you like? Did you try a Simmons - most durable in my non hunting tests.
Too many good broadheads to try.
Love VPA heads. Easy to sharpen and fly good for me.
I shoot lots of styles of broadheads, but I do have a good bit of success with both the Woodsman heads and the VPA's. In my experience, any vented head will "hiss" going downrange. But, any feathered arrow hisses as well if you ever stand down range of one. So for me, I've never noticed a poor reaction as I feel it's not louder than the feathers or the bow itself - just my $.02.
There are so many broadhead choices to consider - Woodsman heads are my go to though (even though I have dozens of other styles and types) because they are tough, I can get them very sharp, and they don't break the bank in terms of cost.
Try Cutthroats.
VPA...
Thanks for the input!
VPA.
never had a vented head I couldn't hear.
J. Cook's reply X2.
I would also add the Snuffer into the list.
