Title: WY Bighorns spring bear?
Post by: Tedd on January 25, 2017, 01:47:00 PM
Every year when cabin fever sets in I consider doing a spring bear hunt in the Bighorn mts in WY. The outfitter I hunt deer with maintains a few baits. Mostly for a few rifle hunters but they said bow range isn't a problem. They are a good outfit. Has anyone hunted bears in the Bighorns? Did you find yourself hunting long days or morning/evening sits? Weather that time of year? It think it's mostly around 8,000 ft? I guess there could be snow on the ground in places. Is it buggy? Been there in the summer on horses but have not had enough points to hunt anything there yet.
Thanks
Tedd

I have family that lives in Sheridan and I plan on going back to hunt bears in the fall. my brother has shot several nice bears and got some real studs on camera. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Bear hunting is good in the Bighorns, I grew up in Sheridan Wyoming and have family and friends that live there. It is interesting to me that you do not have to keep the meat there. What side of the Bighorns are you hunting? 8000 feet sounds like the Cloud Peak area to me. I normally seen them on the face in the spring. The nice thing is that you can bait and draw them in. The only bugs I would worry about that time of year is deer flies. they are mean!!!! A little bug spray keeps them off.
