I have a #50 hill longbow, shoot arrows about 550 grains. Will i generally have enough power to use say the 3 blade grizzly heads effectively?

If you are drawing to 28" or even somewhat less, you can count on killing anything on the continent with that setup assuming you put the arrow where it needs to go.
I'm not personally a fan of three blade heads. I've used them and prefer two or two with a bleeder simply because I find it easier to get them scary sharp. If you are one of those who can do that with a three blade head, then I see no reason not to use them. I've killed stuff with snuffers and woodsman broadheads, but I can get Deltas, Simmons Tiger Sharks, and Stingers way sharper.

I haven't used the Instinct heads personally but everything I've heard has been good. I have used Snuffers,Woodsmans,Bodkins and MA-3's on deer and small game but decided to use 2 blade heads for elk. My bows are all 45-50#.

IMO, yes.
I don't quite understand why some folks say they cant get a 3 blade head sharp when they can sharpen a 2 blade. I hear that often and not throwing rocks, just don't understand. The 3 blade has a built-in angle for the user. A good file and a fine stone and leather strop or even cardboard and its very simple.

It's all about the angles. A three blade has a set angle of 60 degrees (an equilateral triangle). This angle makes a great wedge or axe head, but knife edges are generally around 25 degrees. I tend to prefer a knife edge on a broadhead.
Will three blade broadheads do the job? You bet! So will two and four blade heads. Shoot what you can get scary sharp, that flies well from your bow, and that gives you confidence. My opinions are just that, mine. If yours are different, no big deal. :wavey:

Yes! I shoot 50 lb at 26". Normally I shoot Grizzly Kodiaks, but like the Instincts, too. They work great. One took out this pig.

Yes for deer.
Almost certain of a yes for bigger/tougher game.
I only have experience on deer so that's all I'll put my stamp on.

I have always hear if you shoot trad only use 2 blades so I have always been afraid in a way of using anything but and not getting a clean kill.

I'm a fan of the Grizzly Instincts and have used them on a pile of animals from antelope to elk, all with bows between 47-56#. They are a devastating head and in my opinion do more damage and create far better blood trails than a two blade.
Yes, the blade angle is slightly steeper. But it is 30 degrees per edge, not 60. Just 5 degrees steeper than a two blade. My experience says that they may not "feel" quite as sharp as a finely honed 2 blade, but they are plenty sharp and hold an edge better.
A slightly steeper angle on the blade is more durable to cut through hair and bone and that is the job a broadhead is designed to do. A 30 degree angle is plenty sharp enough and is more durable when encountering hair and bone.

I used a 3 blade vpa this year with my 45# longbow and had a complete pass through on a buck. The heads are very easy to sharpen and I stink at it but with a few strokes from a file then ceramic stick and leather strop they shave the hair right off my arm with no pressure. Can't ask for much more than that.

I've never had a problem getting three blades heads sharp enough to cut hair with a dmt diamond bench stone and then some cardboard or very fine sand paper.
I shoot 47lbs with a 26" inch draw and never had a problem with penetration. I switched over to three and four blades when I realized that if I hit the shoulder I wouldn't penetrate with a two blade either. I figured move off the shoulder and use a three or four blade and get better blood trails and bigger holes if I hit a little far back by mistake. So far it has worked out great for deer and hogs and all have been pass throughs.

Gooberson, did you have any luck with the cut throat broad heads? I bought some but didn't get a shot this season.
