You know, the bow that does it for you. Although I really like several others I own and BTW will never part with. Dryad Orion is my favorite bow. The grip is so comfortable and repeatable, shelf as close to your hand as it can get. The ACS RC limbs really are a pleasure to shoot. They feel like they get lighter at full draw, not like others that really start to pick up the lbs. at the end of the draw, flat out zip an arrow. My accuracy has increased because of the speed of these limbs and I am shooting heavy hunting weight arrows. Gold Tips 7595's full length with 50grn inserts and 145 grn heads. I like the Orion so much I ordered a second bow, this time with the ACS LB limbs. These too really throw an arrow, no down side here with these limbs. Super quiet and smooth drawing. I am a fan.
-
Yep, Bear take down.
-
Yep, Bear take down.
X's 2..
-
Schafer Silvertip T/D longbows for me,BigJim Buffalo is a close second.
-
Yep my two Kanati longbows!
-
Getting close! Haven't shot anything but an Imperial for a while, but I'm still tinkering with the grip some and trying to find the best draw weight and length for the shooting that I do. The experimentation is half the fun!
-
Black Widow PSAX. Been my go to bow for quite a few years now and before that a SA. It is the bow that others get judged by. With that said I am really liking the Bear TD.
Haven't tried an ILF rig yet , may some day.
-
Mine is my Stalker Coyote FXT LB, I have had it for 4 yrs and have bought and sold many others since. I don't shoot any other bow as well as this bow! It's smooth drawing, quiet and fast. South builds awesome Bows.
Steve Jr
-
It'd either going to be a Toelke Pika or Treadway Black Swamp. No other bows compare for me.
-
I have had "the one" many times.
I currently have three bows that are in that category: Abbott longbow, Brackenbury recurve, Thunderhorn longbow.
-
Yes!
Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow.
I got my first one in 2009. I have bought 2 new longbows since then. They have both been Sarrels Blueridge longbows with the same specs. The only reason I bought another was that I wanted something new and different looking!
I have shot a lot of others, but always put them down and come back to my Blueridge!
Bisch
-
Yep, a hickory self bow.
-
For me, it's my A&H ACS longbow. I have owned a few of the over the past several years. I have bounced around like everyone else...trying different stuff. I'm done now...my ACS is here to stay! :bigsmyl:
-
Yep , Flatline Bows , Cardiac Arrest .
-
Not yet.
-
I've bought and sold many bows over the years and have finally found what I've been looking for in my Toelke Lynx with recurve limbs and my 3 piece Stewart Slammer longbow.
-
For twenty plus years it was my Wes Wallace Stealth recurve but going all longbow now for a while and for me it is my JD BERRY Morningstar,Awesome bow made by a great bowyer and even a better person.
-
I've shot many over 50 yrs. & Trails End by Dale Dye works for me, my 1st custom was in 1988
-
Toelke Whip! This bow is very light, very quiet, smooth, and I shoot well with it. No other bow for me!
-
"One best bow" no, not yet. But I am really liking my new Vintage Works 62 Bear replica. Could be because I had it made a few pounds lighter and I can shoot many, many arrows without tiring. It also fits me well, i.e. grip. IME for ME the grip is the most important thing.
-
I would have to say my custom predator. Its very very smooth and so accurate. I also love my great plains swift to. But if I had to keep only 1 bow it would be my Predator. Hands down the best bow I have ever shot.........
-
TallTines recurves
-
Owned so many bows looking for the perfect one.
TallTines recurve followed in a close second by Schafer Silvertip recurve (I shot lights out with this bow, but shoulder issues forced me to sell).
-
Bodnik Cayuga longbow for sure.
-
My favorite, go-to bow is a Hunters Niche Predator, 46# @ 28", 60" amo.
-
Still searching, got a new one coming soon(Super Shrew) maybe that's the one...
-
My Bear Kodiak T/D... Been "Gonna buy one" for 40 years. Bought one 2 years ago, from Big Jim. It's the last new bow, I'll ever buy!
-
Oh yes, several times. Two years ago at 70 years old I said I had probably bought the last custom bow I would ever buy. I lied!
-
Well yes, I suppose I have. I really like my Morrison ILF recurve. So much that I've really thinned the herd. Just couldn't look at the other recurves just sitting on the rack. I also have a light weight Quinn Stallion riser that I had converted to ILF limbs and I like that a lot.
Of course, I'm always looking at the classifieds for another bow to try...
-
It would be my Bigfoot Sasquatch T/D Recurve, that I just bought on the classifieds here.
Saving up for a Sasquatch SS.
-
Found mine too! PSRX 60" 51# @ 28" and a BigJim Thunderchild 56" 51# @ 28" Both takedowns.
-
Yes. My '66 Kodiak.........and my mid '60s Red Wing Hunter.........and my Flatwoods Custom R/D..........and my late '60s Ben Pearson Hunter..........and my wife's Hoots Custom recurve................
Seriously though, as far as shooting, I prefer the '66 Kodiak. I just seem to shoot it better. Only thing is it's a little heavier than I'd prefer at 55#. Maybe one day I'll pick up one in the 45-50# range. I do like the shorter 56-58" bows for hunting because they handle easier, but it's usually not to hard to get a spot trimmed back to where the longer bows will work.
-
Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet, Cadillac 'o' bows. They almost shoot themselves. ;)
R
-
The ones in my signature. Have been shooting them for several years and they always make me real happy!
I have been quite impressed by several other bows... the JavaMan Assyrian, the 64" Cari-bow Silver Fox, and the 66" 3-piece TD Toelke Lynx longbow. But while I'd love to own one of each, I would not trade for either of my Widows.
-
I have, Its such a simple bow. I built it for a backpacking bow in a two piece takedown. Its only 52 inches and is a D and R with the same limb profile as my Strike Eagle recurve. Its very light in weight. will go right into my side quiver or in my pack. Shoots like a big bow and honestly I see no need for any other bow besides it. Strings with no stringer and is just a delightful little bow.
God bless, Steve
-
for me it's my BigJim thunderchild 55@32 that was his personal bow , this is my go to hunting rig
-
WW Black Wolf
-
60" Silvertip one piece curve for me...
-
After many bows, I've found my "one" bow in a Black Widow PMA. This bow was built for my with bamboo (v) limbs and a greybark (II) riser that has laminations of bamboo in it. My extra, heavier autumn oak/grey bark combo limbs add to the appeal. There are other great bows that are fun to shoot, but this one is king.
-
Wow! I sure hope not. Then I'd have to sell all the rest and some of them I just couldn't bear to part with.
-
No I havent.... Ive shot recurves and liked them.... shot R&D lonbows and liked them...... but there is just something more Im looking for. Have shot since I was four so after 43 years Im hoping to try and ASL longbow. I hope thats what Im looking for
-
I just got my Mohawk Sparrow Hawk and I shoot it more accurately than any bow I've had before. I had one once before, but that one was right handed and my shooting improved when I switched to lefty.
So have I finally "found my bow"? Hope not, because there are a few more I want to try as funds come available.
FITTER, if you're looking to try a "D" type longbow, take a close look at the Mohawk. It is a mild D/R, but strings up to a true D. Faster than I expected, dead quiet and, much as I hate to admit it, I do shoot that 66" bow better than any of my shorter bows.
-
Any bow that would be perfect for me would need to be ambidextrous and still shoot the arrows that I already have on hand. That makes for a pretty narrow category.
-
Bladepeek.... I had a Mohawk and it was a great bow. Just didnt speak to me....
-
After 52 years of shooting traditional bows I am still looking and wouldn't have it any other way.
-
At this point it would be my Kwyk Styk. However, the Elkheart is extremely fun to shoot. I still plan to own and shoot many others (Lord willing).
-
I started with a Pearson Cougar in the 60's. I've tried and owned dozens more. I went through a bunch of different bows during 6 of the past 8 years. Many of them I learned about here.
A lot of great bows out there and I have retained a few. Most of them have been pictured here since 2010.
I've settled on my Blacktail Sitka recurves. If I buy or trade for another bow, it will be another Blacktail recurve.
There is nothing about my Sitkas that I will claim to be better than several other well designed, made, and finished recurves out there. However, the combination of grip, mass weight, draw feel, release feel, and what my eye likes, is best met by these Sitkas. And nope, I've never met the bowyer and they know not my name.
The bows that have given me great positive pause and enjoyment include; Rose Oak Heritage, Schafer TD, Predator Anniversary, Fox Sierra, Bear A-Mag, and Stalker Schleyer. I have retained 3 of these.
-
I would have to say my original Assenheimer and the two River Runners I own. Those are the only bows I would never sell. I doubt I ever own another bow unless I build it myself.
-
Like most posters on this thread, I've been through a bunch of bows and keep a handful of them around , but the one that I grab when I'm heading to the stands and that I never consider trading off is, like northener (the OP), also a Dryad Orion, 53#. She's a shooter and I guess I'm "Faith"-ful to her.
-
The bow I pick up when I want to do some serious shooting is my Centaur.
-
Have been fortunate to have experienced many valuable relationships with a host of bows.
One can not have too many friends.
-
Nope; I told a guy I shoot with some yesterday that when I want another bow I'm going to tell him to go buy me one and not give him anything but draw weight range. Every time I shoot one of his bows it's 8 or better. This time it was an older Hoyt 50# takedown.
-
I really don't think I've found "the one" yet. Right now I really enjoy my Abbott longbow, but I've shot some deflex/reflex bows that were just awesome. I think if I got ahold of the right one it could turn into my favorite very quickly.
-
Yep. Two piece toelke whip. It just works for me.
-
I think I've found my recurve but not my longbow. I bought a 66", 50# at 30" Thunderbird from Jay St.Charles. It fits me perfectly and is a pleasure to shoot so I don't think I'll need to look any further. Now it's time to find "the" longbow.
-
I've been shooting the same JK traditions Kanati for a few years now. Liked it so much I ordered another one. So yes, I guess I have!
-
Getting real close. Not down to just one yet, but definitely down to two. (1) Great Northern Bushbow (2) Toelke Whip
-
Over the years I found several "MYBOWS"!
By getting better and better shooting bows also my standards for a good bow were growing up. ;)
For now I found my bow it's a "Bigfoot Sasquatch SS" build by Kirk Lavender from Oregon.
-
Found the one.......?? Not yet but I have some that may fill the bill. My Holm-Made collection [6] is right up near the top. My Bear T/D's are real nice, love my Hill's and a Bama Hunter. My Stalker Coyote is a real shooter also. Zipper ILF risers [3] and whole bunch of other stuff. I don't think there will ever be just one. :dunno:
-
I think so. I bought my first custom bow in 1988, and have owned probably 20 since then. I have shot many bows, and my best recurve are my Robertson's, and one Bighorn. For d shaped logbows I really like my Bighorn Ramhunter and my Robertson Primal Styk. I really enjoy my Wolfer for what it is too.
But with all of those that I cherish and won't get rid of, it is my Silvertip that would be classified as the one, and my one and only if I could only own one.
-
Widow PCH....if I can pick a longbow too it'll be my Great Northern Lil Creep but that is number 2 behind the Widow overall
-
Blacktail take down
-
Mine's a 66" take-down Blackwidow PLX.
Took it out a couple of days ago. I hadn't shot it for a while with work, farm and family stuff, and with no warm up shots proceeded to put half a dozen heavy woodies into less than 4", right on the money at 18 yards.
Pretty chuffed with that. Can't do that all the time, but it's nice when it does happen, and it's happening more and more often now.
I put it away after that.
Lex
-
A new Wes Wallace Mentor.
-
Love shooting my vintage Bears, but my go-to bow is a 62" Tall Tines that I've had for 5 or 6 years
-
Really? Wow, I thought that was just a fairy tale. I guess I'd have to say no, I haven't really ever been dedicated to just one bow. There are a number of bows Id be proud to own and shoot. Im just in the process of buying a Toelke Whip, yet im already eyeballing a Northern Mist! Lol! I guess I'm fickle....
-
Still enjoy all my bows! Some I shoot better (some days) than others but still enjoy looking at them all and taking them out to sling some arrows!
-
Rocky Mountain Recurve
-
yup its the only one i have it is a horse bow mind you i would like to have another self bow to replace the one i Broke by slamming the car boot on it ouch!!!! was in to much of a hurry to get my game home to the freezer. LOL!!!
-
I've bought several and have 2 I'll never part with. On is a Maddog Mountaineer, and then my new Black Widow PCH. And the cool thing is, I can switch back and forth and shoot each of them just as good. Or bad...depending on the day. But I have fun doing it!!
-
Yes, any of my Schafer Silvertips.
-
Black Widow PLX
-
I know personally I have found my bow....z :)
There are some I could sell currently but there are those that will never leave my stable.
Looking, trying, buying, selling, its a good and healthy hobby.
-
Yep, found my bow, now I am waiting for it. The older you get the faster time seems to go by. Right? WRONG!!
-
I have found my "Forever Bow" several times :D
The truth right now is this ACS has got a hold of me. I've had it for over a year and I still love it.
Jeff
-
What???? With so many fish in the sea?
My bow has been a big Jim thunderchild for several years. Haven't found a reason for a wandering eye yet.
-
Mine also A&H acs.Just plain fits me right.I'm not the best archer out there but having a great time learning.
-
Mine also A&H acs.Just plain fits me right.I'm not the best archer out there but having a great time learning.
-
Sorry for the double post
-
So many great bows. I love to practice for the hunt with my 62 bear Kodiak. Man what a killer.
-
Nope.
My Dwyer Original is my sweet heart for a few seasons now but fully admit that I'm guilty of having a wandering eye!
-
Thunderstick Mag. Or Toelke Whip. They both have good manners!
-
My bow is the Pronghorn Longbow I have two of them.
-
Herb Meland 3-piece Pronghorn with resin impregnated maple riser I bought from a late Trad Ganger Milan Rancich (aka Mooseran). Not only is it a beautiful bow, it is a pure joy to shoot.
A close second is a Bear Alaskan Halloween bow, 50# dual shelf. Everyone I let shoot it wants to buy one. Only bow I have owned that so many people have said they want one.
-
Hmm I have had a few.
The first bow I really liked was a Shrew Classic Hunter
Then a Pronghorn
Then a Blacktail
Then a Tall Tines
Then a Liberty Chief
Then a Rampart
Then a JD Berry Morning Star.
I still have four of the above, and really like them; but I could be very happy hunting with any one of them.
-
Those Pronghorns are a fine looking bow!!
-
Well,
30 years ago Damon Howatts
25 years ago, Bear Takedowns
20 years ago Widows
15 years ago Pittsley Predators
10 years ago A&H ACS CX
8 years ago John McCullough Bows
6 years ago Toelke Bows
5 years ago Gregg Coffey Bows
3 years ago Tall Tines
The circle comes back around, today it's back to Bear Takedowns with a special place in my heart for Tall Tines, McCullough, Toelke and any of Gregg Coffeys creations.
I have a tough time choosing between a Bear Takedown, Gregg Coffey bow or one of Brian's Tall Tines when I hit the woods these days.
On a side note, I wish I had all those Bear Takedowns I sold that I picked up 20 to 25 years ago. Silly me :dunno:
-
Bigfoot Sasquatch ILF 19" Riser with Short limbs 60" 55#@27"
Smooth in the draw, quiet on release. Fun to shoot.
-
I have a bunch that I like, but the one I always gravitate back to is one of my Silvertips.
-
When I started shooting all I shot were Jordan stalkers. Very great bows and great guy to deal with. Since moved on to a zipper, bw PLV, and have a kwyk styk coming but don't shoot any of them better than the first Jordan stalker I ever bought. Wish I never would've sold that bow!
Nick
-
For me it's my Bigfoot Flatliner, double carbon foam limbs,G10 riser. All the bow one needs.
-
This Caribow Featherhorn I got last fall could be the one. Unless I get another just like it. Talk about a sweet bow.
-
There you have it. About 50% of the bows ever made are someone's go to bows. Isn't it nice to have so many choices.
I've never been able to limit myself to one, and never will. In recurves, I see no need to look further than my Bear takedowns. In American Semi-longbows, my Hills fill the bill. My
ACSs are as much as I could ask for in extreme hybrids.
Probably will never be able to narrow it down to one bow in the moderate r/d category, though I have it narrowed to a Liberty Chief, Robertson Vision, J.D. Berry Taipan, or older 64-inch Great Northen Critter Gitter and a few others.
So many bows, so little time. :bigsmyl:
-
Mine is a trinity longbow td falcon- I shoot it better than I shoot a pistol (maybe says something about my pistol shooting)
-
Did my wife tell you to ask?
-
nah every time I think I found the right bow I end up making some dumb shot and then blame the whole dang thing on the bow,,,, so then I have to go find another one 8^)
-
Blacktail Elite VL. My go to bow for the last 11 years.
-
You gentlemen dont make it easy on someone who was thinking just about a Hill style bow......
-
While I love my Kanati and it does more than I ever could, I really, really want to try a selfbow.
-
yes, dozens of times
-
Big Jim Thunderchild! 56" 50@28
-
nope
-
Both my Zipper Extreme and SXT. Hands down the most pointable bows I have ever shot.

-
No I haven't, but I hope to.....some day.
-
yep....several...just different tools for different jobs...but I do have favs
-
I've owned my St Joe River Longbow formthree years now. I've bought and sold probably 2 dozen other bows in that same time frame but none of them came close to the feel of my SJR.
I'll keep buying and trying because I love this hobby....But I'll probably never sell my SJR.
-
Robertson Quikstyk for me. Recurve would be Howatt Hunter from the 70s.
-

Same as A.S owned and sold all the "names" just so happy with my A&H ACS CX 3D. Also love my Tallon Whisky Jack longbow
-
Mine so far is my Centaur Triple Carbon Elite.
-
A 1967 1/2 Bear Kodiak Hunter is mine
-
I'm very close with my fox breed. It's definitely"it" for me in a 50's style recurve. After focusing on trying many different ones without any luck that fox and I clicked the first time I shot her. But there are a few other styles of bow I'd like to get in my hands and see how I lil them for a takedown recurve and a D shaped longbow. The quest continues!
-
Kinda. I know what I like in a recurve and longbow, I just keep going back and forth.....in a recurve I have settled on Black Widow with an Asbell Grip. For a longbow I love Northern Mist reverse handle styles....the Whisper and Ramer.
-
Shooting a Blacktail T/D now and told myself it would be the one for me but somehow a 1 piece Mentor managed to catch my eye-those bowyers from the Northwest have a riser that just melts in the hand.
-
Recurve would have to be Cari-Bow Tuktu
Longbow Miller old tom That came from OZ

I've had several bows I like, Stalker recurves, Javaman elk heart, kanati, Centaur....but my Zipper Nitro is the bow for me...for now ! Lol
-
Check out my thread on Morrison Max 4 limbs.
-
Bear T/D's right now. But, Pittsley Predators are right there as well. The Bear latch system is just so convenient, but they're both great shooters.
-
Wow. I never would have guessed THIS thread would run so long, big wink!
