I got a sad note from Brett Kauffman's widow regarding the Standing Stone annual Trad 3D shoot.
They've decided to cancel it PERMANENTLY..
Like many clubs, there just aren't enough who are willing to put in the time far enough in advance to plan, process and put on such a function.
Shelly, Brett's widow, has tried to continue Brett's level of involvement since his passing, but can no longer do it all... As a widow with 2 young children, she's overwhelmed and has asked me to share it's OFF...
That was one of the good ones...there are others, but we're seeing far too many clubs who face the same issue, those who did the most are aging and younger blood isn't stepping up!
So Standing Stone Trad 3D will be NO MORE! :knothead:
Sorry to hear this! I hate seeing any archery venue go away. Not having enough people help run things is the bane of every archery club I have ever been around.

That's to bad........good help is hard to come by and it can't be done with no help.
Sorry to hear this. We were looking forward to this year. Last year was a great shoot and a fitting tribute to Brett. Sad.
It is sad. I'm glad I made the last one.
I never understood why they didn't get more shooters. It was an awesome layout and the food prices couldn't get any cheaper. Heck, one year I shot till my fingers were sore and had lunch for a grand total of $14.
I'm going to miss it and I wish Shelly and her kids all the best.
Sad to hear a good shoot and tribute to Brett is no longer going to happen.

Sorry to hear that, we really enjoyed that shoot but fully understand. Got a mess of pic's around here on one of my PC's, one of my favorites of all time is the one Doc took of me and my daughter walking the trail hand in hand....good times!
One of the best shoots of the year. Shame.
Its not just archery.... we are changing, as a society. We have no time for anything (yet don't miss any emails, TV shows or videos). Many, maybe most clubs and such, in many fields are hurting because nobody wants to play anymore.

Last time I attended, their Father's Day Shoot, several of us had some serious discussions with Brett about this very thing...
The guys who were there were Brett's Dad, Barry, several other guys nearing retirement, and...Brett.
I'd go early, help set targets, sweep out the main lodge, whatever...ran a few novelty shoots for them one year.
Great club grounds... black powder range, rifle range, pistol range, trap range, but there was limited help... We bantered a lot of suggestions but the concern was members would pull out..who needs do nothing but pay dues people?
Anyway, I'm far enough away that I can't do much, but his widow has had her hands full with 2 kids, finished off the addition they'd put up before Brett passed and his Dad is retired now...
It's a shame, but I've seen quailty dwindle at other Eastern shoots as the guys who made it great, faded from the scene with age, and nobody stepped up...
Urban mania strikes---even in the country! Same if it's a club, church, whatever... people want the benefits, not the responsibilities
