Great shoot, fun time, and good people
Thanks David, hope it works out for yall to make it back.

This is one of the top archery events that I have ever been to and I have been going to them for 60 years.
This event has to be on every traditional archers bucket list.
A premier traditional experience.
Voluntarily giving up a couple of days of turkey hunting was unthinkable until I started attending the Tennessee Spring Classic many years ago.
Thanks Guys, that means a lot to me.
Pappy
Do you have a vendor fee?
I'll be back with BCY--great event because of the great people!
Thanks Chad, look forward to seeing you. No vendor fee Crooked stic, but limited space and we are usually full of regular vendors, sometime someone will fall out and we just keep a list and when an opening comes up we will let the new vendor know.Sorry but about 35 is all we can handle or want.
Pappy
Couldn't be more correct Chad.

Pat you are the man, hard to keep it up with this new set up they have here. :banghead:
Pappy
Attempted in earnest to tempt Pappy into abandoning his lair to hunt with me this past season.
He just couldn't be lured away knowing Twin Oaks' had many more 3D deer targets with larger racks.
My numerous most memorable past experiences at Twin Oaks merely substantiate his reasoning.
I'll keep it TTT the best I can, Pappy.
Yep , this place moves fast for sure, thanks.

After attending our first Classic last year you can count on my family making this event every year. Pappy and his crew do an outstanding job. I loved seeing the carnage at the final target. http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag141/SEOUTFITTER/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-04/077E409A-C773-4D20-A68B-5A9DAD4F30B4_zpssvm3ivxo.jpg

Folks, this is one of the best events you'll attend, ANYWHERE! There are two 20 target courses spread out through some of the most beautiful country you'll see. Pappy also has target settings rivaled by none, herd of caribou, packs of wolves, flocks of turkeys....well, you get the idea.
Pappy, I gotta say this.
Now, with that said, some people think that after they pay the entrance fee for the 40 target round for competition, they can keep shooting on the competition course as many times as they want to......folks, that's not supposed to be that way. Pappy has a twenty target fun course set up for as much extra shooting as you want, no extra charge, BUT, after you paid to shoot the regular course.
Targets are extremely expense folks, please don't take advantage of this wonderful group of people putting on an outstanding event for us all to enjoy.
Thank you for letting me vent.

I've been looking for something else to do after giving up on trying to get people to hog hunt in May.
I'm going to drive down from Mass and go to this,,, Pappy or anyone from the area is there motels around that you'd recommend in case I camp camp out.
Camping is the way to go. Plenty of room, free(for registered shooters) and lots of fun happens after hours.
There are motels within a few miles. Pappy may have them listed in the announcement.
We will be back again with our Ace Archery Tackle products. Looking forward to spending time with you all. Bob & Jan

First time.
Killdeer
Are you going Killdeer ? I will be there with BigJim and his crew . It would be nice to see you again . Drew
Very cool KD! Stop by the BCY table and say howdy!
I got word last night that Mike Treadaway is coming...and plans to bring my new bow with him. Whoo-hoo!
The Classic event will indeed be blessed by a host of special attendees.
It will be good to see you again Killie and to see Mike Treadway again. It been quite a few years since I've seen either.
Ya Mike said the last time he came was in 2010, the year of the flood, but he is going to try again and hopes he don't bring us any bad luck. That is great news Killdeer, looking very much forward to meeting you. Pat see yal in a few days.
Pappy
Will be picking up a coveted selfbow at the Classic.
My great friend Shawn Magyar along with several of the Twin Oak's selfbow experts have poured considerable love and effort into completing this project. The stave was taken from an Osage log that was felled along side the Trail of Tears. It has been speculated that the old osage tree may have been standing at the time of the infamous journey.
Hopefully, I may honor her in harvesting a deer this fall.
The treasures of Twin Oaks abound.
Yep I have see it Scott, I feel sure you will do it proud.
Pappy
Thank you Pappy!
Wow, Drew, that's quite a hike! I am dreading the long drive but I will really enjoy seeing old friends and meeting new ones. My old friend who moved from here to the Nashville area will be there, and I know that I will be shocked at how big the kids have gotten.
Pat, I sure miss ATAR!
Killdeer
Yeah, me too Killie. That was a few years ago wasn't it?
Seven, anyway. Still wear my T-shirts.
QuoteYa Mike said the last time he came was in 2010, the year of the flood,...
We were talking about that the other day. I believe that's been the only year I missed the Classic (one or both of my folks were in the hospital...can't remember which) since it went big.
Really looking forward to this one! Along with my new bow, supposed to be picking up some river cane arrows with stone points from James Parker!
Killie : I will fly down to Georgia then ride out to the shoot with Jim and the crew . I'm sure I will catch you at some point
Bernie and Dano where there. I remember Dano's lemonade. :knothead:
Dano? Crap...ain't seen him in forever either, or Allan. Need to drag Martha up from FL too!
Sounding better all the time, I am headed to the cabin in a few hours and will be there until it is over, Chad ,James is coming in this Saturday I will get them arrows a road test if you want me to before you get there. See yall in a few days .
Pappy
Boy Chad. Now you're talking the Kentucky Classic days. See y'all in a few days. :campfire:
Those were the days for sure Pat! Remember the catfish fry? Thought Paula and Cecil were gonna' be sick!
Pappy, give them a good test run on a turkey bird!
If anything goes according to plans, I'll be there sometime Thursday morning. My regular spot?
And who was it with the R/C car delivering cold beer across the camping area? That was one heck of a group of good folks. We've got a pretty good group at Twin Oaks. :smileystooges:
OMG, and you are letting me in?
How does the potluck dinner work?
I got no RC car. No moon pies either.
Killdeer
The pot luck dinner on Saturday evening goes with the cost of the shoot. If you can bring something it is appreciated but not necessary.
Thanks, Pat!
Think it was Tig and Andy who had the RC car? Killy, it's TN. Moon pies in every store in the state I think, including beauty shops.
That Kentucky Klassic was in '02. I just found a pic of the group. I'll bring it with me this week.
Was Pappy at that shoot, Chad? I didn't know him then. I did meet Gary Davis and all you other folks there.
If he was it was before I knew him too. I did know Tom though...met him there a few years prior. Any chance I can get a copy of that pic? I heard that Paula has passed on, not sure about Cecil. Pretty sure everyone has gotten older since then, except me of course!
It's a poor print but I'll see what I can do.
Seems like Alan told me that Paula has passed but I don't know about Cecil. What great folks.
Alan moved back up north to Maine this past fall. Sherry, his wife has MS and wanted to be back near her daughter.
I'd love to see Martha again and get a massage. Last time I saw her was the last year at the SE Trad Championships in Elberton.
Succumbed to the temptation to do a little prescouting and sniffing around down at Twin Oaks yesterday.
Couldn't endure the glimpse of the wonderful event to unfold. Within a few moments, I found myself strutting, rubbing and scraping.
Much to look forward to...
I'll be there tomorrow for lunch. Can't wait!
Wish I had time to get there a few days early and play a while...too much to do though. Pouring string wax today. Thought when I poured it last time I had enough to last several lifetimes...didn't work out that way.
Got to cut a trail Sunday and get home, be home two days and leave again for another event. No rest for the weary...
I have to work 4 day's this week, won't be there until Friday morning.Hope everybody has great fun.
Kurt
I'll be leaving for Twin Oaks first thing tomorrow morning so someone else will have to bring this post back up...TTT
Safe travels everyone!
Getting close...I'm leaving REAL early Thursday am...hope to be there before 9am
Three more days!
Trying to decide. I'll be in Clarksville, TN Thursday and Friday.
I visited the club to meet with Bryan Marcum last year at the Trad Worlds but didn't take my bow. Country looks very nice.
IMO the Classic is a better shoot than the Trad Worlds. More laid back, more vendors, more people. Excellent, very challenging course. Trad Worlds is great, just different.
Two more days!
Pappy-- What is your local weather forecast? Thanks.
Here you go Bill. Doesn't look bad at all

I'm going to finally make it down for the first time! I should be rolling in mid-morning tomorrow!
Be very gentle on the soaked ground.
I got here very early on Wednesday. It was a bluebird day once daylight came in full, and a pleasure to set up camp in.

Killdeer
Then it happened.
We got a long, soaking rain. I love rain, especially when I am tired, in a snug camp, and it is pattering on the roof of my tent.
Having worked a full day Tuesday, I left Ashburn, VA and set out for Twin Oaks. I drove straight through, except for three hours spent sleeping in my truck at a rest area between Knoxville and Nashville. After setting camp and getting to meet Pappy, it was too warm to sleep in the tent, so I drowsed in my cookshack until sunset cooled things down.
And the rain came, and sounded so soothing... I slept like a lamb.
It rained all day today, too, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But the poor guy that got stuck when he pulled into the pasture with a trailer didn't like it too much. He had 4WD, but jackknifed all the same. Pappy pulled him out with a tractor.
So, be mindful, be gentle, be careful.
Killdeer
BTW, I love this beautiful place. There are birds for me to learn, plants that I don't know yet, and somehow, this well-loved land tells me that it is happy. It is truly magic.

Miss Killdeer has positioned herself to fully absorb the gifted experience of Twin Oaks.
A 16 foot trailer may be required to hall merely a portion of it home.
I plan to make the trip tomorrow and do a little shopping. I'm needing some 250gr broadheads. My little girl needs some arrows. I'm sure my wife is needing some stuff too. Looking forward to being there.
Y'all try to stay dry. Looks like it's gonna be pretty soggy today.
Been raining for a couple of hours here, anyway. Did the practice range with Jack and T.P. Made some perfect shots, but most were "Harrumphs", broke a carbon.
Folks are still working their bows, breaking rocks and shooting in the rain. For me, time for something hot in the belly and some downtime. If whoever lost the Roy Rogers stuff reads this, I wiped it down and put it in a fresh bag, and turned it in at the registration station.
Killdeer
It was a great day today as the rain forced me to spend the day helping/watching my son make his first Self Bow. Dave from NY was a great help and mentor. By 4pm the first arrow from his masterpiece had been launched and the smile was well worth the work. The rain finally stopped late afternoon and allowed us to hit the range and get a little practice in with our longbows before hitting the official range in the morning. I love this place.

Bob Lee Exotic Signature Long Bow 49# @ 28"
Weather was perfect this morning. Just a slight chill in the air which felt great. Got some 250gr VPA 3 blade heads from Big Jim. Picked up a half dozen arrows for my little girl. Picked up several other needed odds and ends from other vendors. Looked at all kinds of beautiful bows. And talked to lots of great folks.
That slight chill in the air made me break down and buy an Asbell pathfinder pullover. Got to talk to both Fred and Teresa. Awesome people. Awesome product as always.
Cool morning, overcast. Got to shoot the first half of the course with Friend, ApplePie and his twin boys, six years old.

After lunch Friend went to shoot the second half with other folks, and the remainder of us shopped a bit before tackling targets 21 through 41. The kids were in a hurry to get to the steel fox, and talked of nothing else!
Target setups were amazing.there were many scenarios with multiple targets, which kept the course interesting and.challenging.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/Killdeer/2017%20Twin%20Oaks/E537A380-EDB2-4CB6-A27E-678AA97E4CDD_zpsgcyoq5ba.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Killdeer/media/2017%20Twin%20Oaks/E537A380-EDB2-4CB6-A27E-678AA97E4CDD_zpsgcyoq5ba.jpg.html)
The fox ate ApplePie's arrow, but the kids' arrows proved indestructible. My arrow,of course, passed through the tiny hole where it was supposed to.
Had to brag to Pappy, and beg a pic of him with me.

Killdeer :archer:
Great pics Killdeer! They kinda capture the essence of the whole experience. I wish I had got to meet you there. Didn't see you there while we were wandering around though. There's just so much to do and see.
Miss Killdeer has certainly presented some captured wonders.
The TN Classic is busting at the seams with both attendance and the traditional mystique.
I was greatly honored to meet Miss Kathryn, ApplePie and his beloved twins as well as share a memorable round with them.
Twin Oaks keeps on giving more and more.
Good stuff!
First time at Twin Oaks can't wait
to go back.
That has to be on my bucket list......I'll get there at some point. Looks like a great time.
Great job again Pappy and Crew.. This was the second year for my family to attend the Tennessee Classic and we plan to attend all of the Classics in the future. My son Hunter had a blast making at Self Bow with help from Dave out of New York. The guys that help out at the Classic are all great but Dave will forever be someone special to my family. Hunter also enjoyed playing his guitar with a group of very talented individuals on Saturday night even though he was the youngest by probably 35 years.
One of my highlights was getting to talk with Drewsbow several times. I had not seen him since the time I was honored to attend the Joan Leonard Memorial Bunny Hunt.
He seemed as young and callow as I remembered... :knothead:
Another plus was the opportunity to take up the Asbells' valuable time with my prattling and bragging about the Steel Fox. I managed to get a photo with them after I spent cash money on a wooly journal. (My tongue is adamantly in cheek here.)
But I did buy a journal, hoping it would guilt me into journalling more. I will likely look at it and think my drivel is unworthy of it.

Killdeer :campfire:
On my bucket list for sure. I have made OJAM. Classic and MOJAM to go.
Killdeer, your "drivel" is most appreciated by way more folks on here than me. You have not posted nearly enough lately. :nono:
It was great to see you again after so many years, Kathie. I'd be willing to bet all my bows that the Tenn. Classic is the best of the best. Even with a bit of rain they had a record turnout of shooters of 605 I think. This was my 10th year(20th for the Classic) and usually I would get there on Wednesday(Tuesday last year) but when I got there on Monday this year there were already more campers than I'd seen before and by the weekend the camping area standing room only. They guessed a thousand or more people were there all together.
I'd like to thank the Twin Oaks gang again for the best Classic ever. You won't find a more friendly, generous and accommodating bunch of folks anywhere. Free camping, a hot shower, perpetual campfire as Kathie said and if you ask they will deliver firewood right to your campsite....and believe me firewood was needed on those chilly wet days and nights.
If you've never been, you owe it to yourself to make it to the Classic once. I promise you'll go back. The kids love it too and have lots of folks looking out for them. This is the "village" you hear about. Even with the rainy weather I didn't see many frowns at all.
Thanks Killdeer for the pictures and so glad you enjoyed yourself, seems everyone did and that is our mission statement, everyone leave with a smile. It was a pleasure and honor to meet you.
Pappy
What a great week at Twin Oaks. I spent 8 days living out of my tool shed camper. The rain wasn't to bad. I didn't get as much bow building time as I had hoped for. I found myself visiting with friends that I only get to see once or twice a year. I left with a 1963 Bear Kodiak and a load of supplies from the vendors and trades. I can't wait to go back next year.

I'm Jonesing for Twin Oaks. Clint, it was great to see you again. I think this is the first year in a long time I didn't go home with a Scrub-buster(osage outlaw) osage stave. Thanks again for the venison steak and fried taters.
Holeinthebow Chuck did himself proud with this years bow.
Finely got rested a bit and can't wait till the next one. Pat/Clint thanks for all of yall's help. We couldn't pull this off with out all of the help I get. Many thanks.
Pappy
Pat, you should have said something and I would have grabbed a good one out of the pile for you. Have you worked hackberry? I can bring you something different next year if you want.
Pappy, I'm looking forward to seeing you at some other shoots after you retire when you aren't so busy.
Clint, I haven't used what you've given me in the past. If I need wood, I know where to get it.
I've never used hackberry. Pearlie gave me a stave the year he came to the Classic but later let me know not to use it because of fungi.
I hopped a flight to georgia and rode to the classic with BigJim and helped out in his tent for the weekend. This is an awesome shoot run by a great group of folks. I got to meet Pappy and it was a pleasure for me.
I had a chance to reconnect with Kathie ( killdeer) again after a very long time and was very honored by her taking time to visit with me and share a gift . Kathie is a diamond among the coal for sure . Thanks Kathie .
I also got to meet some very fine tradgang members , too numerous to put names to everyone.
We ate some great food compliments of Pappy , Steve and Dawn and also the Buck Hollow boys .
Later Saturday night after some high jinks from several who shall not be named we went out for a night shoot with the buck Hollow boys and had a blast with an outstanding group.
This is one shoot I hope not to miss in the future .
Thanks to all the folks that stopped in to BigJim's and talked to us as well as supported Jim and his business. I had a great time with each and everyone of you. Thanks again Drew
It was great to meet you also Drew, you gave Big Jim's tent some class. :shaka: As for the Buck hollow boys, you got to watch them boys they will get you in trouble. ;) Pappy

It's a home made quiver. I'll send you PM with a link to more pictures of it.
