Anybody use these things?  http://aerohunter.us/238/aero-hunter-evolution-advantages-by-john-eberhart/    I feel like getting off the ground would improove my chances but can't bring myself to get a normal tree stand

I do when it is warm enough that I don't have to wear bulky clothes.  I haven't actually taken anything out of it yet with trad gear but it sure is fun swinging from trees!  I hunt a spot on public land where you can't leave tree stands unattended so it works well for getting way off the beaten path without having to carry a tree stand.

I don't have any experience with it but it seems a little pricey for what it is?

I hunt out of a Guido's web. It is the same except a few additions. Very comfortable and safe. Greg

A friend of mine has used both the Aero hunter and the Guidos Web and prefers the Guidos Web for comfort reasons.  He says the Aero Hunter pinches at the hips too much for extended sits and the Guido doesn't as it has a seat platform.  I've never tried the Aero Hunter but I do have the Guidos Web and can say it is very comfortable.

Quite a number of guys use a system like this. John is the one who had the Tree Saddle which is gone now.
I tried one for a while. I found it was hard on my knees(bad knees anyway) facing the tree. You still have to have steps or sticks to climb the tree, then steps arranged to rest your feet on in order to move around the tree to shoot.
I found out I liked hanging a lightweight stand with the same sticks I had to carry with the tree saddle and being able to sit there. I didn't feel I lost any ability to make shots from a regular stand. I have several hang ons that are only 8 pounds. That's my experience.

Used one similar(Anderson Tree Sling) for years when I was younger, with great success. Trick is to pick a tree with large enough limbs(live limbs) to free climb, and limbs that you can both place your feet on, and sit on, at the same time. Very comfortable for a long sit; and you can stand and push away from tree "silently" to shoot, sometimes even around the tree when the limbs allow. Too old  to climb now, but still use mine for a safety harness and a deer drag.
