Just wondering which broadheads everybody uses and why? And who influenced your decision on your choice of broadhead.
For me, I hunt with a Zwickey Delta. I used to use Steel Force Hellfire broadheads some years back but switched to Zwickey's because of my father. I realized something about my father besides him using Zwickey Eskimo heads for as long as I can remember. My two brothers and I took noticed that none of us never witnessed our dad ever buying new broadheads? Or using any other kind of broadhead as long as any of us can remember. When we asked him about why he uses Zwickey broadheads, he just stated, well, they work and been around since 1938 for good reason as well as he seen no point in making things complicated. We then asked when was the last time he actually bought new broadheads? He said with a puzzled complex look, maybe late 70's?? We just laughed. Thanks.

I have enough broadheads to last several life times, all different types
For me, what they look like means as much as how they work. The whole game is like that. Recurve or ASL. Pretty or painted ?
Face it, there are lots of heads out there that work very well. Which one you use really doesn't matter except to you.
My latest honey child is the 200gn Cutthroat. I like them a lot. They are well made, well designed, get really sharp (no hair on left forearm during bow season) and they "look" the way I want a broadhead to look.

I use Deltas too. I also use Simmons Tigersharks.
Deltas because they are easy to sharpen, tough as nails, cheap, and they penetrate well. Oh, and they fly great too.
Simmons because they make huge, short blood trails.
I can't decide which I like better so I carry both and kind of alternate which one I shoot.
If I had to choose one broached to shoot for all time, it would be a Zwickey Delta two blade.
-
I've shot zwickeys and Magnus 2 and 4 blade when I started bowhunting. Got away from traditional for a few years and just got back the fire for my traditional equipment. After reading a lot on all the new coc broadheads I decided to try the vpa 175grn 3 blades. A lot of my decision was based on ease of sharpening and the 1 piece design. I'm very happy with my decision so far. They fly perfect and are extremely tough. I had a complete pass through on a buck this year from my 50# longbow and the broadheads looked like it had never been shot.

Zwicky Delta ....
Can't beat the performance or the price .
-
Eclipse 125, and 225 Tuffheads with 75 grain titanium adapter. I see no need to change from the two that work best for me.
-
I am really happy with the 250 Cutthroats I have been using the last 2 years. They are tough, leave great blood trails and are easy to resharpen.
-
I've been having good luck with the Simmons over the last few years, though I think it really just boils down to personal preference anymore. Most of the traditional broadheads available are all top notch!

Eight pointer I shot November 7th, 2015. 21 yard shot with a Zwickey Delta, 28 yard recovery. Field dressed out to 234 lbs.. Just another reason why I love those Zwickey Delta's.
-
Thanks for all the input my friends!! Keep them coming. I truly enjoy to hear what people are using.
-
Eclipse werewolf 175 double bevels, was a bear razorhead fan for years, got great penetration out of a 50# old Kodiak with them (werewolfs) this year, easy to sharpen although they are wicked sharp right out of the package.
-
Zwickey,Deltas and No Mercy.Reason why? They work and have for longer than I have been here!

I have a few different heads but this season I used the Zwickey eskilites.
I only shot one deer but the tracking job was...zero yards. The buck expired almost directly under my tripod.
I did have to follow the blood trail for about 15 yards to find my arrow.
-
Magnus stingers. 125s with the bleeders. They came highly recommended by and old archer and are easy to sharpen.
-
I use Bear razorheads when I am using my old Bear bows and I use 3 blade VPA out of my Bob Lee hunting bow. Both are great heads I can get sharp real quick. Plus I like using what ol Fred used lol
-
In the spirit of full disclosure, I haven't killed anything with trad gear yet, so I can't actually vouch for how these perform, but I currently have 3 broadheads I shoot. When I switched from compound 5 years ago and figured out how to bare shaft tune, I found that I needed 150 gr up front to use my old compound arrows. I was on a budget and found one package of the old blue 150 gr Bear Razorheads at a local archery shop for $12. I still have one of my bows tuned with those and have carried them a couple times this season.
I later found some 190 gr Simmons Interceptors at a garage sell for $1 a piece. They appeared to have never been shot, so I snatched them up. I've got two bows tuned with that weight now, but haven't hunted with them this year.
I'd wanted to try a long skinny single bevel, like the Grizzlys, and also wanted a third weight option to give me more tuning options with the arrows I already had. Last summer, I found where RMSGear was stopping carrying the Tusker brand and had one package of 250 gr Concord single bevels left marked down to $12. I snatched them up and have been primarily hunting with them this season, though I haven't gotten to hunt much this year. Archery goes to Jan 31st here, so maybe I'll still get lucky.
Looking back, I guess I shoot the ones I do because I found good deals on all of them.
-
I've used many heads successfully so I think there are a lot of great options. Started with Zwickeys in 1987, Magnus Stingers& Buzzcuts, Simmons, Abowyer Brown Bears, Abowyer Boneheads, then VPA 125,150,175, and now settled on VPA 250 Grain, 3-Blade 1-1/4" diameter cut for my go to... why? Because I kept upping my overall arrow weight & F.O.C and cutting diameter and still get great penetration and increased wound channel for more trauma and better blood trails. One piece machined and easy to sharpen, great warranty, and great company/support. If I want to shoot a two blade I like the Abowyer Boneheads 1-1/4" cut! Shot my biggest buck to date with that head and it performed incredible on penetration. They come wicked sharp!!! I cannot restore them to that factory edge, still need to learn that... I'd love it if they had a solid screw-on. I would also have full confidence in the tuffheads & VPA two blade....
Thank you Lord!

I hunt with Zwickey heads, Deltas, No Mercy's, Eskimos, Cliff Zwickeys, 2-blade and 4-blade.
I actually started using Zickeys when I was a youngster because we shot a lot of broadhead shoots back in the 70s and 80s and we shot into dirt butts with silhouettes staked out in front. Other guys were tearing up wasps, and savoras and Rocky Mountain razors, etc etc. I couldn't afford fancy replacement blade broadheads back then so I used what flew well and used a head I could shoot into dirt butts and then sharpen and take to the woods.
I've tried a lot of heads along my bowhunting journey. Most were adequate heads and fully capable of getting the job done but something happened several years ago that will keep me shooting Zwickeys from here on out.
I was building some "Arrow of Light" arrows for my nephew's Webelos troop which had 35 youngsters. I contacted Zwickey to see if I could get some unsharpened heads at a reasonable price. The lady I talked to ( Debbie I think) without hesitation, said Zwickey would provide them free of charge and in a couple days, 3 dozen Cliff Zwickeys arrived at my door.

When you take care of kids, you win my heart. Zwickeys Rock.
-
Woodsman original series 3 blade glued on a 70-75 doug fir shaft... Because treekiller Ron French told me to...
-
Zwickey 4- and 2-blade deltas, STOS two blades, Abowyer single bevel Brown Bears and Wensel Woodsmans and Snuffers for turkeys.
Have been shooting Zwickeys for more than 40 years and will always have some in my quiver. Played around with STOS and Abowyers. I've killed a few critters with them and they also do an excellent job. Usually have one or the other of them in my quiver as well. I like to punch a bigger hole in turkeys so use the three-blade Woodsmans or Snuffers for them.
-
After trying a bunch of different kinds, I have settled on the original glue-on Woodsman broadheads for deer, and coyotes -- and Grizzly single bevel for hogs.
But, I do still think that Bear Razorheads, Ace broadheads and Zwicky Deltas are all excellent classic two-blades.
You cant go wrong with any proven broadhead as long as it is really sharp.
-
VPA 200gn 3 blade. Fly quiet, sharpen easily, built like a tank, and look good too!
-
Eskimos, Deltas, Ace, Bear, Magnus......been around a long time.
-
Been a Zwickey fan for 45 Years; the Delta the best, for the above mentioned reasons. I like large entrance and exit holes. The only head I prefer as much, or more, is the large Snuffer. Almost always carry both in my quiver, and prefer the Snuffer in early season and when there is no snow. The Snuffer and the 4 blade Deltas are the best, IMO, if your shot is "Off the Mark";they DO leave a blood trail. Hears so much good about the Simmons that I'm going to break my habit next season and try them.

Zwickey Delta 4 blades. I can get them sharp pretty easy, they fly good, leave big holes and are affordable. I've had good results with them, so, see no reason to change.
-
I have a bunch - I too like the "look" of a broadhead as I believe they all will perform well if tuned and sharpened. I've put Zwickey Deltas, Woodsmans, big Snuffers, Simmons Landsharks, and even a Magnus 2 blade through deer. All worked well. My favorites are the Woodsmans and Snuffers - mainly for ease of sharpening and excellent results.
-
After reading all ashby's stuff I was sold on the single bevel broadheads... I really enjoyed the tuffheads but tried the grizzlies this year and found them super easy to sharpen, shoot great and preformed beautifully. With a lower poundage (49lb longbow) they had no trouble with bone. I've also witnessed them hit smaller trees (a couple inches in diameter) and split them 8-9" in either direction of the entry.
-
vpa for me
-
I agree that most coc broad heads will work well. I've killed bear, deer and elk with Zwickey Eskimos, Magnus Stingers, Woodsman, Bear Razorheads, Snuffers, and Simmons Tigersharks. Shooting Tigersharks right now but will be carrying them and 175 grain Woodsman on my hog hunt in 2 weeks.
I like the copious blood trails left by the Tigersharks.
-
I just switched to Silver Flame 180grain double bevel heads. Could not pass up the closeout price on the website. They fly like darts and are scary sharp.
-
Simmons Landsharks....they fly great for me and are easy to sharpen and leave massive holes
-
As always, you guys show me a diversity of things that work!! Great to see that people like switching up. It only shows me that traditional bowhunting is thriving with each passing year. And KAZ,,,What a buck and thanks you for sharing! Was looking for such postings here!! You guys are great!
-
Was shooting Woodsmams. Then I got the Hill bug and wanted to try a back quiver so I went with a Zwickey Eskimo. For ease of drawing from the back quiver.
Well, the back quiver didn't work so well for me. But I really liked the Zwickeys. Quiet In flight easier to sharpen, accurate and. Cheap!
I use 125 gr. Glue ons with a 75gr. Steel screw in adapter.
-
Right now, VPA 200 3 blades for better blood trails. So far...maybe. :D They are pretty durable, 5 deer and a cat with this one on #1 arrow. Easy peasy to sharpen, nothing to not like yet....
Previous 30 years Zwickey Deltas, love the 2 blades, but cant get aux. blades as sharp as I like on the 4s
-
This was my first year with trad gear and I shot the VPA 3 blades. I killed a fallow doe and the performance was great, good blood trail, no complaints. My new bow should be here Monday and I'll see what weight tip I end up with after tuning. If I have to buy new broadheads I'm looking really hard at the Zwickeys. I like the way those old 2 blade heads look and hear nothing but good things.
-
I use to shot Deltas but found Magnus 125 2 blades fly much better for me.
Clark
-
Simmons Tiger Sharks
Reason excellence blood trails on everything I shot and on marginally hit deer.

Original Woodsman or Snuffer. I also like the Zwickey Delta 2 blade but with my current setup and shafts, the 170g weight underspines my shafts. Now shooting the 125 Woodsman's and Sunffers. The 3-blades are a no-brainer to sharpen to a super sharp edge, fly great and cut big holes.
-
I've new using Zwickey Deltas for 35 years plus or minus. Switched to Magnus 1 for a little while and they did great, but still went back to the Deltas. I have some Cutthroats to try but haven't shot anything with them. I will always have a couple Zwickeys in my quiver.
-
And it has on at least one occasion field dressed the deer for me   :scared:

I'm glad this thread came up! You see, I have been sort of a broadhead junkie since 1973! I have used Bear Razorheads, Ace Standards, MA3's, Bodkins, Snuffers, Woodsmans, Magnus I and II's (with and without bleeder blades), all kinds of replaceable blade broadheads (back in my wheel bow days), Grizzly's and every model of Zwickey except the Cliff. The only reason I ain't used them is because they are illegal in N.C. I even completed my "Zwickey Grand Slam" on deer this year.
The reason I have used and tried so many different types and styles is that I don't shoot heavy bows and I'm always trying to balance penetration with cut size (making heavy bloodtrails). Always looking for that "perfect" broadhead! Well, guess what? There ain't a "perfect" one! If you get a great bloodtrail with one today, you might not on your next shot. I used to think a big, nasty broadhead would/could make a difference on a gut shot. It might, but waiting long enough before taking up the track has helped me recover more deer. A broadhead that blows through the rib cage on a broadside shot not might not give enough penetration on an angled shot. An exit wound helps with blood on the ground.
So what's the answer? Pick a good, solid, COC broadhead that flies great from your set-up, that YOU can get sharp, and practice with it so you have confidence in it. For me that is a Zwickey Eskimo or No Mercy, Magnus II, Grizzly or Ace Standard. (sorry for the rant but we are snowed in and I'm already having a touch of cabin fever!)
-
Magnus 2 blade 125 grain. A 2 blade was recommended for penetration and Magnus broadheads were recommended by numerous trad gangers when I purchased them 7 years ago.
-
Been switching between the 250 Cutthroat and the 250 grain VPA 3 blade. Have killed 2 deer with the Cutthroats and 10 with the VPAs and an well pleased with both of them.
-
Pretty much nothing but simmons heads for me wicked blood trails and got a great way to sharpen them
-
Ace Standard 2 blade glue on, super tough easy to get scary sharp and fly great, many weights, I don't think I'll use anything else
-
Woodsman Elite 175 gr.
-
Well.....I have harvested deer with Snuffers, Razor heads, Magnus, Grizzlies and the list goes on. All performed well as expected. However, I always come back to Zwickeys. Imo Zwickey does not make a bad broad head. The last few years I have settled on the Zwickey " no mercy ". WHY do I use Zwickeys? I do lots of stump shooting in summer months. I shoot broad heads and judo points for my stumping. The Zwickeys hold up better under this abuse than any other head I've tried! They fly well, are relatively easy to sharpen and tough as nails. I don't give much consideration to other heads now, finally!
-
I use Simmons Landsharks because it looks like they were hit with a hatchet. Whenever I shot a mature buck and he went down immediately, I will likely never be looking for another broadhead.
-
125 grain Magnus Stingers for me. Been shooting them for 3 seasons now and they work flawlessly!
-
Grizzly broadheads for me. I have a drawer full of all different makes of broadheads. Always liked the profile of the Grizzlies, just could never get them sharp. Then Bill Dunn took over the company and everything changed. The broadheads are built much stronger now, and the factory grind is excellent. Makes sharpening them and maintaining a sharp edge very easy. I swear they fly better then my field points as well. Can't see myself switching anytime soon.
-
250 Gr VPA 3 blade, Single bevel Grizzlies, and I just purchased some simmons glue on tree sharks. My gosh, they are huge!
This deer was killed with Grizzly Single bevel. (185 weighted to 250 gr).
-
Those Simmons Tree Sharks are truly lethal!! WOW!! :scared:
-
This one is with the 250 gr VPA 3 blade.
-
200 grain single-bevel grizzlies! I love'em.
I also have some 200 grain WW that I like... the ones made by VPA.
Since we're posting pics, this guy was shot with a grizzly this year!

-
I like trying out different broadheads. This year I killed deer and hogs with treesharks, grizzlies, abowyer wapiti, and silver flame xl. They all worked very well.
-
I've used several different heads over the years and grew to like a wider head, at least 1 1/4". Heavier heads also shot better for me so I moved toward 160+. Ace Express 165 was my #1 head for quite a while until even heavier heads started showing up. Currently shooting Grizzly Kodiak 200 and 235 gr, depending on the setup. They are narrower than I like, but the single bevel seems to make up for it. The performance of these heads on game continues to amaze me. I also carry The Grizzly Instinct 3-blade on occasion.
My arrows have also carried Zwickey Deltas, Woodsmans, Snuffers, VPA Terminators, Ribtec 160 and I would not hesitate to use any of them again if that is what the arrow liked. I have some Cliff Zwickeys that I am gonna tune up just because they look so cool.
-
I like the 230 grain kodiak, I have a bunch of deltas too, but I can get the kodiak sharper easier, so I prefer them.
-
200gn VPA - spin true, 1 piece, almost indestructible, easy to sharpen, 3 blade leaves a good blood trail.
Con - expensive
-
I've used the original Woodsman broadhead for several years now. I like them because they are easy to sharpen, fly like darts, are tough, and aren't expensive.
I've killed quite a few hogs(that's mostly what I hunt)with Magnus heads, VPA, and a few with Zwickeys.
-
Grizzlies for me although I've been looking at the 3 blade designs a bit as well
-
190gr Steel Force.
-
I see a bunch of great broadheads mentioned here and it has me thinking about trying several different broadheads, especially those Simmon's Tiger Sharks!
-
Ive taken game with several of the previous mentioned heads, bear, zwickey, wensel, vpa, simmons, bodkin, magnus, and they have all worked my latest is the stos 160 with adapter to 200 grns, I have taken 4 deer with them so far and they might become my favorite.
-
I use 2 blade heads from Zwickey and Magnus.
-
Find much delight in having a vast variety of viable options.
Find much delight in knowing that virtually any reasonable choice possess its own lethality.
Find much delight in knowing that I just need to focus on making the shot.
-
Z DELTA 4 Blades...
Z NO MERCY 4Blades...
Cause I like getting an entrance and an exit whole with extra blades for more leakage.....and, the bleeders aren't wide enough to imped penetration but do negate arrow pinch...
I also use WWs for same reason.
But 90% of the time it's ZD4s
I like running as much hardware through them as possible....quicker kill, more carnage, n more blood for thick terrain.
-
Zwickey Delta 2 blade. With 100 grain insert.
-
Stone first and Zwickey 2 blade as back up.
-
300 xtreme. Got a stash of them. Only 300gr 3 blade I like. Not made anymore but I have enough to last my lifetime. Cause I can get them scary sharp and they make a good hole.
-
Zwickey Delta 2 blade with 100 grain insert
-
125 Eskimos. I've never been able to hurt one!
-
Thanks everybody. I do like trying a new broadhead every year, but always seem to come back to Zwickey Delta 2 blade. I like solid blades because vented blades I tend to get a whistling sound for somen reason.
-
150gr German Kinetics (both 1 1/8" and 1 1/2" depending on animal hunted) 2 blades for most stuff because that are the sharpest out of the box BH you can get, and because they are super tough. I also use 150gr Magnus Stinger (2-blade or 2-blade with bleeder) mostly for hogs because thay are also very reliable BH's and they are not such a big loss when the occasional hog runs off with one of them!

As most of you know, I am a big fan of ACE Archery Products.
I have had good luck with the ACE Standard.
I would highly recommend any of the broadheads in the ACE Archery line.
-
I have been using grizzlys since about 1990. I find them easiest to sharpen and they fly the best for me. They are also a good value compared to most other single bevel heads. I also use zwickey eskimos and deltas on occasion. I have a few no mercy heads but haven't hunted with them yet.
-
I shot a doe this year with a Palmer Extreme cut 4 blade which looks like an oversized Muzzy phantom. Really like the head but on my hog hunt I used some old snuffers I had and a two blade that I don't know who made it.
-
I like wide 2 blade broadheads. The broadheads I have taken deer or hogs with that pleased me are Zwickey Delta, Zephyr Sasquatch, Magnus Snuffer, Muzzy Phantom and Simmons Tree Shark. Broadheads I have used that didn't like Muzzy 3 blade with chisel point killed 2 deer with them only got 1 hole.
The confidence issue is big for me. When you have razor sharp 1 1/2" or 2" out front it puts my mind at ease.
However when I go elk hunting next year I will probably use a Grizzly or Cutthroat. They have bigger bones and Tom Clumm from RMSgear recommended it and he has killed a few elk. Thats gives me confidence.
-
VPA 3 blade.
Quality head.
They come in a range of weights that can be made to work with any setup I've had.
I can sharpen 3 blades much easier than 2 blades.
-
Today, I did some fiddling around the arrow table. I came across 3 glue Simmons Tree Sharks that a good friend from back east sent me about a year ago. I had some inserts glues in them for carbon arrows but when I tried them last year, they made a audible whistling sound. But today, after some fiddling, cutting, tapering cedar shafts and shooting arrows. I had the 165 grain Trees Sharks flying like darts and quiet as a whisper. I was truly amazed at the accuracy and performance. Looking forward to taking them into the field.
But I will always have a Zwickey in my quiver.
-
I've shot every type and all are pretty good. But only connected on one deer.
It was a simmons.
wasn't impressive but it was a smaller version and I hit the deer in the spine (but it worked)
Looking at the pics those things make some of wicked holes.
This year Im making up some woodies with the wide simmons.
Like throwing an axe

My point exactly. Bigger the wound only means, more blood on the ground, easier to track and a quicker kill in my opinion. I was truly impressed on how well they flew as well as the penetration they had for being a wide 2 inch broadhead.
-
Have been using the old Bear Razorheads for 46 years, since 1970. They've worked great for me, so I've never considered changing. What influenced me to use these, Fred Bear of course!!!
-
I shoot old bear razor heads or Magnus II's.
They all work if ya hit the right spot.. Just personal preference..

I've used many different heads to kill deer and other animals only one or two have failed me and someone on here likes them the best . I like the old Razorheads with the bleeder as I like multiple blades better than 2 blades I'm not convinced that a 2 blade penetrates more and I don't think penetration is an issue on North American big game . My favorite broadhead is the Wensel Woodsman ! I've had some heavy blood trails and some quick kills,my arrow flight is great and I find them easy to sharpen. If I was to use a 2 blade again I would go with the Simmons Tigershark

I haven't been able to take an animal yet...but my Toelke Whip will be shooting Surewood Douglas Fir shafts with a 2 blade Eclipse, or 4 blade Zwickey Delta come spring turkey season.
