Got to my stand an 6:20, 40 minutes before light. The night sounds with a very slight breeze and a nice temp of 30* made a very enjoyable wait for light...... :)
Me and the squirrels enjoyed the first hour , along with a pileated woodpecker. Then just before 8:00 I saw a lone deer about a hundred yards out sorta headed my way. :coffee:
:campfire:
I glassed it and it looked to be a button buck, free pass for him...
Then at 30 yards I see a different deer coming to me, gonna be right in front very shortly. How the heck do they do that!! I pull my longbow up out of my rubber boot, and start getting in position as quickly as I can. Oh , small doe, not sure if I want to shoot.....
She is now at 10 yards, still not sure, nah, not gonna.
Then from the same place comes a bigger deer on the run!! Crap, I'd shoot this one but not running!! :scared:
Glad to see you started this....since I missed the hunt again this year!!!
:campfire: :coffee:
Did I mention it was a BEAUTIFUL morning to be in the woods??

Hope you can come next year T!!
:campfire:
Still steady breeze about 5 mph blowing across the trail above the deer. Love when you can find a stand where you can pull that off.
The bigger deer comes crashing in right in front of me at 10 yards, slides to a stop at a little ditch still broadside at around 11 yards.....

As the deer is charging in, I am frantically swinging the bow to stay with it. When it stops, the bow seems to just shoot itself, no thought or action from me that I can remember, just the arrow disappearing in the correct spot. WOW , what just happened?
The deer makes a run for 50 yards, and stops. I have yet to see the arrow in the dirt because I'm watching the deer. Then the buffalo shuffle sideways and down. 8 seconds or less....

Then I saw the arrow in the dirt and thought MAN, what an efficient weapon a sharp broadhead is.
And reusable, this one has been thru 5 deer and a cat.....(Took 2 arrows, last deer broke the other one)
And there it was, a freezer deer. Bro came and helped me get her to the house. Hope you all enjoyed the hunt, I sure did!! :bigsmyl:

Sometimes I think it's harder to kill a mature doe than a mature buck.

Excellent...thank you for sharing.
Had the pleasure of guiding my second first deer trad harvest, from the ground, this morning.
Introduced a good friend to trad this summer and he executed a fine shot on his first shot ever in the field. We were both thrilled and excited.
Kenny! good job..looks like a P&Y doe...I'm at Mac's...I hunted tonight...no deer...but a very nice evening. And that's more than okay.
Excellent Brother!
Thanks guys! I had a guy ask today if I'd started calling coyotes yet. I explained that I'm addicted to bowhunting so can't go til bow season ends.....

Nice Kenny. I have been thinking of you this week as the last two years I have hunted with you during this week. Miss you. Chad
Thanks fellas!!
This morning:
1. Somebody's dog followed me and barked for the best half hour of hunting time just out of sight
2. The does smelled me
3. The yotes saw me 5 yards before I wanted to shoot.
Excellent morning!!
Chad, I think about you guys every time I go past that road corner and think about a stand in that little cedar!!
Congratulations Kenny! You make it look and sound easy but I know how O.C.D. you are when it comes to hunting. No surprise to me that you are successful. You earn it! Happy new year! Mike
Congrats, Kenny...
