Hey guys, former member of this and many other sites. Hunted w trad gear exclusively for 11 years, took quite a year critters and in 2007 made a bad shot on a giant whitetail and lost him. Lost all confidence as well and have shot wheels since. Have taken a few real nice bucks during that time, but I've lost the allure of the wheel bow and have gotten the bug again. My last bow was a Schafer take down recurve that is wish I still had. So, looking for advice on a new bow. Schafer, Tall Tines? Hear good things about Black River Bows? Thanks for the help!
You could get a million different opinions here!
All three you mentioned are great. I have both Schafer and Tall Tines bows, haven't shot a Black River yet.
Glad to see you back!
Welcome back
as far as bows go, it all depends on what your looking for, there's tons of different bowyers out there and manufactured bows that are great Everyone has personal preferences as far as longbow, recurve, what woods, fancy looking, plane Jane and the list goes on and on and on.
We do have a classified section that you can get on and find some great deals on bows. Maybe get a Schafer, try it out for awhile. Don't like it, trade someone for a tall tines or another something else
Welcome back !!!!!
If you can swing it come up to the Kalamazoo Expo next month try a bunch and see what you like.
Nothing better than to shoot them for your self.
Yea a trip to KZoo would do you good. I would consider a RER Vital or XR, Wes Wallace, Black River or TimberHawk if you liked the Schafer. Lots of nice bows in the classifieds here and on other forums. Used market is soft so you can find some great deals now.
Lots of good ones. I'm in NW Arkansas and your welcome to shoot my Sarells and Tall Tines if your interested any time. I think the best bow is the one that fits your hand the best.
Centaurs and Pronghorns......
You might strike gold searching on *****! Found a lot of classics there. They might have one waiting for you.
Hands on is best. My personal choice is Blacktail recurves and the Horne Brushbow hybrid longbow.
I've owned or shot Black Widow, Toelke, and Wallace to name a few and they were all excellent as well.
If you're itching to shoot, buy a Samick Sage to get the juices flowing while you find that perfect custom.
Best of luck in your search
